Theodore, Alabama offers several campground options within 30 minutes of the town center. Most sites in the area are situated on level terrain with temperatures ranging from 45°F in winter to 90°F in summer months. Theodore's coastal location means high humidity and occasional strong storms during hurricane season, making weather monitoring essential for campers.
What to do
Beach access at Dauphin Island: 25-minute drive from most Theodore campgrounds provides public beach areas. "There are 7 miles of walking beach off this RV and the island is a bird sanctuary in the Gulf Coast all around. Really loved this site," shares a visitor at Pelican Nest RV Resort & Campground.
Historical exploration at Blakeley State Park: The park preserves significant 1800s historical sites. "Great park with a ton of historically preserved areas from the 1800's. Bugs are not nearly as bad as I expected. Lots of wildlife including deer that come very close," notes a camper at Apalachee RV Campground.
Fishing opportunities: Bay Breeze RV offers direct water access. "There is a 150' fishing pier and chairs conveniently located for watching the beautiful sunrise over Bon Secour Bay," mentions a camper who enjoyed the waterfront amenities.
Wildlife refuge exploration: The Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge features hiking trails and sandy beaches. "Across the road is the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge with hiking trails, sandy beaches on Little Lagoon and a kayak launch," reports a visitor staying at Bay Breeze RV.
What campers like
Swimming options: Multiple parks offer pools as alternatives to Gulf beaches. "We've enjoyed our stay at this RV Park. A lot of thought went into the amenities. There are bench swings, a giant chess board, horseshoe pit, dog run and dog bathing area, pool, cabana/pavilions, and many other amenities," notes a visitor at All About Relaxing RV Park.
Wooded camping environments: Some parks offer more natural settings than others. "It is very close to Mobile, but also very secluded. There is alot of space between sites and lots to see and do within the campground also. Hiking and biking trails, a boat excursion and a history tour of the area," shares a reviewer about Apalachee RV Campground.
Dog-friendly facilities: Most parks accommodate pets with dedicated areas. "Super clean and quiet. The views are gorgeous. The owner and camp host are very nice and helpful. The sites are HUGE! Plenty of amenities. I highly recommend!" says a camper at Homestead RV Community.
Shaded sites: Oak trees provide natural cooling at several campgrounds. "The sites are located under massive oak trees with Spanish moss hanging from the limbs," explains a visitor describing Bay Breeze RV.
What you should know
Winter availability concerns: Winter brings an influx of seasonal campers. "This park is now Mobile west. They are still going through some changes. Pretty quiet park with security gates and cameras. Alot of nice size trees with a 14 acre lake and swimming pool. They sell propane on site also. Alot of long term worker campers but it's been a nice month here," reports a camper at Mobile Oaks RV Resort.
