    Sugar Sands RV Resort

    Our favorite Orange Beach campground

Very clean. Spacious sites with level concrete pads. Full hook ups. Only 8-10 minutes to the beach.  Very clean bath houses. Easy to navigate campground road with tons of room to back into back-in sites. Pull throughs also easily assessible. Nice pool. Check in easy and quick. Employees very friendly. Will be back next month. Camp store on site. They also have a few rental tiny houses and rv's. Trash pickup at your site each morning. Cable TV and great WIFI.

9/6/20 update: all things mostly the same, bath house closed from 8pm to 8am and WiFi not nearly as good as past visits.

    Oaklawn RV Park

    Good for a layover

The good: location was great, right off the highway and next to a Camping World, Tire center, and emergency vet. Wi-Fi worked well, park felt safe, and we were only 10 minutes from major attractions in the area. The bad: water pressure was horrible. Sites were tight and overlapping, a little uneven, and about 4 inches unlevel. This is definitely a long term campground connected to a mobile home park.

There are a few open pull throughs for transient travelers and I would recommend them as an overnight stay based on location only.

    Magnolia Farms RV Park

    Quiet, Friendly RV Park

We are fairly new to the RV life - Andy tried to help us back in, and then decided he would just do it for us. He was so helpful. Everyone has been helpful. The laundry facility has an app that lets you know when your clothes are done, so you can walk back to your camper and wait instead of sitting with it. 3 or 4 activities are planned every month. There are some permanent residents, but enough transient to feel like you are with travelers. We chose it because it was close to our daughter, but would choose it again. Monthly rate is cheaper than daily rate. There is a fire pit for everyone to share, but no fire pits or grills for individual sites. Wooden decks for each site are nice. Grassy back in and some pull through- all level. Someone is always tending to the grounds and doing maintenance on the sites. We’ll be back!

    Gulf State Park Campground

    Beaches and bikes

Gulf Shores Alabama Gulf State Park Current camping spot on the canal. Ours is a nice pull thru with electric and water. Almost 500 sites here from tent to big rig friendly. Spacious sites, some with foliage, some with Lake or canal views. Grills but no fire pits. Right now there's a shortage of usable bath houses because of hurricane damage repairs in progress. Good wifi, local TV, and cell service. Close to stores and dining. Free access to adjacent pier. Great coastal access. Free use of bikes. Lots of great paved and boardwalk trails. Gators, snakes, armadillos and birds reside here.

Davis Bayou Campground — Gulf Islands National Seashore

Gem on the Mississippi Gulf Coast

We really enjoyed our stay at Davis Bayou. The campground seems to be a bit dated, but we kinda enjoyed the nostalgic element this added to the vibe.

The sites vary in size, we noticed most big rigs had to park their tow vehicles or toads in the auxiliary parking. If this is a problem you may want to look at other options, as the park staff is very diligent about keeping folks off the grass.

The park staff did regular patrols though out the park. They were very friendly.

We enjoyed riding our bikes around the park and to the historic arts district in Ocean Springs. There are several restaurants and bars with live music which was fun. There are also alot of art studios to check out.

We also took our canoe all though out Davis Bayou and to the beach, which was a ton of fun. The tides are in play here, so make sure you study up as conditions can and do change rapidly.

The visitors center is definitely worth checking out and while your there make sure to check out the fishing pier.

Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, power and water.

The cost is $22 a night per site.

The bathhouses were cleaned regular and had great water pressure. The water has a bit of a smell to it.

    Verizon cell service worked okay.

    Bring bug spray.

    Sun Outdoors Orange Beach

    Lots of concrete

This is an all Inclusive RV Resort! Lots of spaces, but very few RVs when we were there. Sites are all concrete with easy access hookups. Not much shade. 2 pools, one adult only. Dog Park, laundry, tennis courts, gulf cart rental. They even have a business center. Walking trails connect to Gulf State Park. They do a lot of planned activities which can be annoying. Long term or short term sites available.

    Luxury RV Resort

    Great level spots

The park great and very easy to get into (35’ 5th wheel). It was very full while we were there but the spots were set up to feel like you still had your own space from your neighbors. Room to park 2 cars. 2 separate spots to tie into the sewer which was nice. Level concrete pads with picnic tables. Hosts where very helpful. Walking distance to the beach and restaurants. Would stay again.

Davis Bayou Campground — Gulf Islands National Seashore

    Close to Ocean Springs, Ms.

This is a popular park during the winter months as it is a National Park. Reserve early. No wifi, no laundry but clean bathrooms and shower. Electric and water at the campsites and a dump station is available. Close to town and all the good eats. Nice clean park.

Guide to Grand Bay

RV camping near Grand Bay, Alabama offers several options for travelers seeking waterfront access or convenient highway proximity. The area's coastal location means high humidity during summer months when temperatures reach into the 90s, with milder winter conditions attracting seasonal campers. Most campgrounds in this region sit at near-sea level elevation, requiring careful site selection during periods of heavy rainfall.

What to do

Boat access activities: Dockside RV Resort provides fishing opportunities directly across from the campsite. "Fishing dock is right across the street and we were only 25 minutes from Dauphin Island," notes one camper at Dockside RV Resort.

Historical exploration: The Grand Bay area provides easy access to preserved historical sites. "Great park with a ton of historically preserved areas from the 1800's," reports a camper about Apalachee RV Campground, adding "Bugs are not nearly as bad as I expected. Lots of wildlife including deer that come very close."

Water recreation: Several campgrounds feature swimming pools as alternatives to beach trips. At Bay Palms RV Resort, campers note the facilities: "Nice RV park, felt safe. Our daughter enjoyed the playground. We went in March, so we were hoping to enjoy the heated pool, but unfortunately it was ice cold. Looked nice and clean for summer use though."

What campers like

Large site dimensions: Concrete pads at some parks accommodate multiple vehicles with room to spare. "The concrete pads are really large and make for easy leveling and give ample space to park 2 vehicles easily," writes a reviewer about Homestead RV Community.

Security features: Gated access provides peace of mind at several parks. One camper at Mobile Oaks RV Resort comments, "Pretty quiet park with security gates and cameras. Alot of nice size trees with a 14 acre lake and swimming pool. They sell propane on site also."

Pet amenities: Dog owners appreciate dedicated pet facilities. "The dog park is so big and our pups were able to really run around and get their energy out," notes a camper about Homestead RV Community, adding "the large oaks on the property give so much shade and add to the aesthetics of the environment."

What you should know

Bathroom facilities: Quality varies significantly between campgrounds. "Bathhouse has 4 guest bathrooms like you would find in a house. Each has a sink, vanity, toilet and very large shower," reports a camper at All About Relaxing RV Park.

Food options: Limited dining choices exist near some parks. One camper notes, "Luckily we brought most of the food we needed because there is no nearby fast food and limited grocery stores. Just something to be aware of. Mainly seafood or pizza restaurants around."

Internet connectivity: WiFi quality differs dramatically between parks. Some campers report "Best Wi-Fi ever" while others mention "WiFi was pretty unusable for us," highlighting the need to verify connectivity needs before booking.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Some parks feature dedicated children's areas. "Our daughter enjoyed the playground. We went in March, so we were hoping to enjoy the heated pool," reports a family staying at Bay Palms RV Resort.

Cabin options: For families without RVs, several parks offer alternative accommodations. "We recently stayed in a cabin with 4 kids. This campground was perfect. The girls enjoyed being able to play outside and the pool. The scenery was gorgeous as well," shares a family at Indian Point RV Resort.

Space considerations: Parks with ample room between sites benefit families. "There is alot of space between sites and lots to see and do within the campground also. Hiking and biking trails, a boat excursion and a history tour of the area," notes a camper at Apalachee RV Campground.

Tips from RVers

Arrival assistance: Some parks provide personalized check-in service. "We were met at the gate and escorted in. He guided me back into the spot and got us settled in," reports an RVer about All About Relaxing RV Park.

Monthly rates: Long-term stays offer significant savings. "I stayed here for 6 months and I was right down by the lake and pool. It is mostly permanent or out of town workers but it is nice and peaceful. Nice people that stay there. It is also gated for only $500 month full hookup," mentions a long-term camper.

Site surface variations: Different parks feature various pad materials. "The sites are level and hook-ups are convenient. Nice landscaping exists between each site," explains a camper, while another notes many parks have "level gravel beds where you can just connect, level up and be done with it in under 5 minutes."
