    Lander, Wyoming

Sinks Canyon State Park is located in west central Wyoming just south of Lander, WY. The park is situated in the Wind River Mountains on the middle fork of the Popo Agie River. The site is named after distinct geologic phenomena in which the Popo Agie river disappears into a limestone cavern and reappears a quarter mile down canyon in a placid pool filled with 8 - 12 lb. rainbow trout. The site has a variety of natural habitats which creates diversity of flora and fauna. The canyon provides a variety of recreational opportunities including nature studies, photography, camping, fishing, hiking, world class rock climbing and access to miles of mountain bike trails.

The Sinks Canyon Campground has 14 campsites. It is located between Popo Agie Falls and Sinks Canyon State Park, where the Popo Agie River disappears into the side of a mountain and then mysteriously reappears farther down the way. There is a trailhead near the falls that penetrates the Popo Agie Wilderness. There is a nearby rock climbing area on BLM lands. No trailers over 20 feet. Popo Agie is pronounced "puh-POE-zhuh." Amenities include one vault toilet, picnic tables, cook grates, and potable water.

Primitive camping with no electricity, each site has a firepit and table. There are 3 vault toilets throughout the campground Potable water is available along with firewood. All campsites and Yurts are reservable only. Call the Call Center at 1-877-996-7275 to make a reservation.

We have 50 acres - our nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away. Our campground is our home - we are not commercialized. When you stay at our campground, you are family! Our guests are spread out and there is plenty of room big rigs. All of our sites are pull through. Our tipi is located quite a ways from other sites. It is an authentic Native American tipi.

We purchased our property because of its location - nestled in the valley with the Wind River Mountain Range to the West and the Owl Creek Mountain Range to the North. It is located just off the beaten path - so, it's very quiet, private and safe. Many of our guests are on their way to or from Yellowstone and the Jackson Hole area. Some of our guests will camp at our place and take day trips to places nearby - Thermopolis, Dubois, Lander, South Pass City, etc!

In 1983, Jim and I purchased our property - which, was simply a bare piece of ground with lots of sagebrush. We built our arena first, started hosting team roping and barrel racing jackpots (our last event was held in 2017 - due to Jim's health issues). The 2017 Great American Eclipse was a game changer! We were dead center of the path of totality. We opened our place to guests. It turned out that our place was ideal for viewing the Eclipse! We really enjoyed hosting guests that came from 10 different countries and 22 different states - we enjoyed it so much we decided to turn our place into a campground - hence the name Jim Moss Arena Campground! We have met so many wonderful people and we absolutely love hosting guests!

    Lander, Wyoming

There are 24 sites in Popo Agie Campground (see campground map). Several at the lower end are walk-in tent campsites. Tents or campers can be used at all other sites. Large RV sites are very limited. There are no showers or hook-ups. Most summers there is a camp host at both Popo Agie and Sinks Campgrounds. Showers are available for a small fee in Lander at the community swimming pool (The Bruce Gresly Aquatic Center) during open swimming hours. Call 307-332-2272 for information on hours. All camping in the canyon is first come first served – there is no reserving of sites. All camping is primitive camping: tables, fire rings and pit toilets. There is drinking water available at all campgrounds, but no hookups. Firewood is provided to campers on the state park (donation suggested).

Lower Wind River Campground — Boysen State Park

Easy riverside campsite for the night

Campsites are simple and flat and alongside the river, which is nice. The campground is adjacent to the road so there is some road noise, but the river drowns out a lot of that.

    Lots of oak tree shade.

Nice fault, toilets, and clean sites

Crippled Spider Ranch - A Hidden Wyoming Gem!

We recently stayed at Crippled Spider Ranch, and it exceeded all my expectations. Nestled in the beautiful landscape near Thermopolis, Wyoming, this ranch offers a truly unique camping experience that caters to adventurers, families, and solo travelers alike.

Campsites & Amenities: The ranch has 71 spacious spots, including full and partial hookups for RVs, and plenty of space for dry camping. The sites are well-maintained, and the full hookups provide everything you need for a comfortable stay. For those looking for an extended stay, they even offer 15% off for bookings over 7 days!

Activities & Attractions: One of the best parts of Crippled Spider Ranch is the variety of activities on-site and nearby. There’s something for everyone—whether it’s hiking on the BLM land that borders the property, petting zoo visits for the kids, or even learning to ranch and milk cows! The property is also a great base for rock hounding and exploring Wyoming’s natural beauty. You can even hunt (seasonal) or target shoot, making it perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.

For those interested in history, the ranch is near the historic Oregon Trail, and there are great opportunities for treasure hunters like metal detecting and exploring old ghost towns.

Staff & Hospitality: The hospitality here is second to none! The staff are friendly, welcoming, and go above and beyond to make sure your stay is enjoyable. You’ll feel like family from the moment you arrive. They even offer fresh, free-range eggs from their chickens and have a fun “catch-and-cook” option if you’re into farm-to-table experiences.

Atlantic City Campground — Bureau Of Land Management

    Camp in the Pine Trees

Nice, clean, and quiet.  This campground is a high quality BLM site.  Spaced out well, in the pine trees.  Beats crowded, packed in gravel CG's any day.  The GPS coordinates  posted are wrong.  Use these instead.   42.305400 N   108432568 W   at 8,219 ft. elevation.  The camp host gave us things to do, and directions.  We didn't go to "Miners Delight", but did go to "Atlantic City", and "South Pass City".   Atlantic City has a walking tour map, that can be picked up on Main street near the Mercantile location.  It was fun to follow the map and see the sites.  South Pass City has a restored mining town section.  Very interesting to see.  It's more of a museum setting, vs the usual souvenir selling tourist trap.   Fun to explore and see how the miners lived back then.  Highly recommend.

Upper Wind River Campground — Boysen State Park

Convenient for 1 night if you're traveling or fishing, otherwise no.

Booked what looked like a decent site by the river and found it to be unusable when we arrived. I was considering just occupying a different site since the place was nearly empty. Thankfully a sheriff's vehicle was driving thru (which I mistook for a park ranger). He told me he'd try to help us get a different spot by calling the park office but on realizing that he had no cell service, he volunteered to drive to the office to see what he could get done for us. He returned after a short while with instructions for us to camp in an empty pull-through spot. We were very thankful for his help.

    The good-

    Beautiful canyon!!

Shade from big cottonwoods (it was 97 degrees!)

    Some sites well spaced

Vault toilet was clean and supplied

There's good fishing there for big trout but unfortunately I was fishing this time around

    The bad-

    No cell or WIFI

A lot of strangely laid out sites, some ridiculously close to one another and unlevel

Sprinklers in some areas that sprinkle your site, tent or whatever's exposed

Highway noise is bad - in a canyon sound bounces off the walls, many trucks on the road with much use of jake brakes and to top it all off, the occasional 2AM freight train rolling by on the other side of the river

If the water was lower I can see where it wouldn be a great place

Most of the sites are flooded the pit toilets are good not sure if they are holding back the water as it is controlled. Only spent one night as we had a very strong wind and did not crank up our top on our slide in camper

Quiet and Easy for a Van

This was a cute little spot! We arrived early evening on a Thursday and it was empty. Good lake access and view of sunset. The GPS location from the app takes you to 4 spots, one ADA, but there are a couple more around the lake. Well maintained pit toilet. The two spots closest to the lake were flooded so watch out for that. Good service for Verizon. Make sure your GPS is taking Bass Lake Rd in from 26. Ours found a "shortcut" down the gravel ranching roads. Not sure why the info here says showers and hook ups, we did not see that. Not sure a tent camper would enjoy this spot.

Nice and clean spot by the lake

Stayed right at the lake for one night with my small RV. No hookups, but ok if self contained. Campspots are spread apart enough that running generators from other campers ( it was a hot day) weren’t to noisy.

Better spot for higher clearing vehicles

Coordinates are accurate to site location. Getting into the first few spots the road is ok, getting down by the river it gets rough. We have a 4 wheel drive truck and it was easy for us. Area is small but no reservations needed. Beautiful views of the mountains and the river. It was very quiet.

    Ocean Lake

beautiful for RVs, windy for us in a tent with rocky ground

Nice free spot but mostly for RVs as there are lots of rocks/gravel. Spot to put in a boat too. They have picnic tables (most covered) and fire pits.

We didn't end up staying because it was too rocky for tent stakes and it was incredibly windy. The wind was everywhere though so not necessarily the location. We had heavy wind all day throughout our drive across NE and WY.

We found the spot on the west side by reading a previous review but there is another spot on the north side maybe.

Overnight stay just before the thunderstorm storm

We planned to stay for at least couple of nights but following morning after with beautiful sunshine, clouds gathered and viscus thunderstorm arrived from nowhere. Blowed our seat cushions away to nearby creek, which had pretty strong flow and current. It started to feel unsafe and we quickly packed and left. Sleeping Bear is full service and then some!

This campground has friendly and accomodating staff, nice bathrooms, laundry facilities, small camp store, water and sewer hookups, a small dog park and a splash pad to cool off! Spaces are all very level and a viriety of options including back in and pull thru and they can handle larger RVs as well. The owner/manager even gave us some local fishing tips and recommended a great place to have lunch in town. This is without a doubt the best campground in Lander and probably for miles around!

The town of Lander seems to have a little of everything in a friendly small town atmosphere.  I'll be back, maybe even move here someday!

    Boondocking for a fee

Basic sites, both drive through and back in, as well as several tent sites. Each site has picnic table and fire pit. Essentially just boondocking for $32.25 a night. Pay station takes credit cards. On the plus side, it is next to a lake and the surrounding scenery (sagebrush country) is nice, like many BLM areas. Good Verizon connectivity.

    Wyoming Gardens RV Park

    Overnight Only

We stayed here 3 nights in our RV and rented a cabin RV for family. I will start with the rental RV. It is pretty run down with no heat, hot water for a two minute shower and a wobbly toilet. Definitely disappointing fir $85 a night. While the showers and restrooms are dated they were clean and worked well. At one point the manager was going to have a very large bus RV with slide outs next to us which would have blocked our table and grassy area. The manager said we could just sit in the front of our camp. Well after a bit of discussion he moved them to a larger slot. We were not bothered by the road noise. There are a few full time residents who were very nice. I would recommend Eagle RV down the road if you can otherwise this is good for a quick stop.
