Guernsey State Park Campground permits pets throughout its extensive camping network, with options ranging from lakeside tent sites to comfortable yurts. The park features multiple camping areas including Sandy Beach, Skyline Drive, and specialty accommodations like the four rentable yurts for $40/night that welcome pets. Sites are generally well-spaced with varying levels of shade and privacy, particularly at Sandy Point loop where campsites are nicely spread around the water with partial tree cover. The park maintains clean restroom facilities with a single shower house that operates on a pay-per-use system ($1 for 4 minutes). Dogs must remain leashed in all areas of the park and are not permitted on designated beach swimming areas, with rangers regularly patrolling to enforce these rules.

Grayrocks Reservoir Public Access Area offers dispersed camping with pets in a more primitive setting for visitors seeking fewer restrictions. Campers report having secluded spots with private beach access despite other campers being visible in the distance. Weather conditions can change dramatically at these campgrounds—temperatures at Guernsey State Park have been known to swing from 80°F to 35°F within 24 hours, requiring adequate pet shelter preparation. The region provides excellent opportunities for historical exploration with pets, as multiple campgrounds serve as convenient base camps for visiting nearby Oregon Trail Ruts, Register Cliff, and Fort Laramie National Historic Site. Larson Park Campground in Guernsey provides a quieter alternative with 15 RV sites featuring water and electric hookups adjacent to a golf course, offering a good fishing spot and grassy areas suitable for exercising pets.

      Stop here!

We needed an unplanned overnight stop on our 3000 mile trip from Dallas to Mintana to South Dakota to Montana and back home. They had an excellent pull-through site. Clean. Playground. Dog park. Propane and beer sales. Quiet. Perfect for us.

      Jackalope Capital

      Douglas KOA

Home of the Jackalope! Douglas, Wyoming that is. They claim the original “discovery” of the Jackalope and everyone else just followed suit. There is a Jackalope silhouette outside of town on a hill, there are Jackalope lick Nessie’s throughout town and there is a Jackalope Square that has Farmers Market on Saturday’s that has a huge statute of said Jackalope.

The KOA is a larger one and more so like a parking lot then anything else. The staff were awesome! Very friendly and informative. A few things of note, the trash receptacles are placed throughout the campground which is nice. The dog park is a bigger one and there were actually locations for horses.
Not much shade AT ALL, and the wind whip’s through a lot. I was informed though that’s a Wyoming thing anyway. Miniature golf, swimming pool and camp kitchen as expected. The WIFI , I’m sorry to say, sucks and is not private. I’ve noticed in my travels though that NONE of the KOA’s have very good WIFI. I was fortunate and got an end site, near the office/shower (clean w/short shower heads and counters)and I had shade. A few days before I arrived in early September it had already snowed and the temperature had dropped into the 20’s. It was in the 50’s my first day and is a comfortable 75 today with a lite breeze. Douglas has some interesting history and historical sites nearby so it’s worth a visit if your exploring the old west or just driving through. Make sure you keep your gas above 1/2, the highways are a long way between gas stations and the speed limits are usually 70-80 MPH.

      BJ's Campground

I had a great overnight stay.

There are only a few places to stay in this town and I was relieved on how safe and clean this facility was. Very nice pull through sights and the bathrooms were extremely clean. Dog park right across the street and big rig friendly. This is a smaller place but very easy to maneuver around no matter what size. Loved the grass at each site. Well taken care of and they paid attention to details making it perfect to stay. Definitely a great place for family or Solo Traveler.

      Riverside City Park

      Good overnight spot

U shaped parking lot. Park area with picnic tables in the middle & one side. No fires. Pets ok. Right next to a river. Gas stations nearby. Good water pressure for filling freshwater tank. Free dump station on site. Very noisy & lots of drive-throughs overnight. A couple homeless people hanging out.

      Prairie View Campground

      Great Little Campground

Such a great campground just outside of Lusk WY. Pull through sites that are full hookup. Very clean bathrooms and showers (newly remodeled). Also have laundry services. Campground owners are super friendly and helpful. Also a very pet friendly place. They have WiFi that works pretty good. Have had to use my hotspot some when it cuts out. If looking for places to walk there is about a .2 mile loop around the campground, a rest stop 1/2 a mile away with a walking path and also a gravel road across the highway from the campground that barely has traffic. Town has a nice grocery and hardware store. People here are super friendly. Only downside is that it is along a busy highway so you hear some road noise but if you’re in a trailer with windows closed it isn’t very noticeable. Has been a great experience!

      BJ's Campground

      Nice for an overnight

Very nice little park in a small Wyoming town. Needed some new tires and went to 14 County Tire, great folks to work with, they recommended BJs. BJs has clean bathroom with shower & laundry room in the office building. Nice little picnic area with table and small shelter. Had our dogs with us and there was plenty of room to walk them.

      Mountain View Park

      Nice place to stop

We stopped at the RV park on our drive home and stay for a night. Nice white box with hook ups for water and for power and a nice laundry room close by an offer less than 50 bucks. Scenery off of interstate in Wheatland, Wyoming, it’s not all that pretty but it’s a great place to stay on a drive through Wyoming.

      Chuck Wagon RV Park

      Terrible terrible customer service

Very small dirty park located 15 ft away from rail road . Commercial Trains goes all night and day with loud horn. High voltage tower is right next to park .Dog poops are everywhere . Site 11&12 are between 2 residential ( broken fence, very threshed scene). $35 per night but for Passport America discount she raised to $44.50 plus 12.25% tax charged . We were questioned about this tricky pricing , she has absolutely rude, nasty, attitude and said I can give you money back just leave . They Don’t know how to talk to guest nor doesn’t care guest relationship. Highly not recommend this place for surroundings, terrible customer service , not honest business ethic.

Ranger Review of Ice Mule Cooler Pro Large (23L)

We used our Ice Mule cooler as our cooler for our trip to Guernsey Wyoming. Placed our snacks and drinks in the cooler with two ice packs at 6am Friday morning. Was amazed that this kept everything cold through Sunday evening. Being able to carry a cooler on you back is a nice feature. We are looking forward to taking this on our canoe trips this summer as this is going to be way easier than lugging a hard sided cooler from our canoe to campsite each day. The pack/cooler is also comfortable to wear making it useful to long day hikes on hot days. It is going to be nice to have a nice cold drink on a hike when it is 90 degrees out.
