    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Camping near Gillette ranges from full-hookup RV parks within city limits to tent sites along reservoir shorelines and iconic rock formations. Within city limits, Greentrees Crazy Woman Campground and All Seasons RV Park provide year-round accommodations with full hookups for RVs, while also accepting tent campers. About 50 miles northeast of Gillette, Devils Tower National Monument offers more scenic camping options, including Belle Fourche Campground with its distinctive views of the tower formation. Keyhole State Park, approximately 30 miles east of Gillette, provides additional water-based recreation opportunities with multiple campgrounds along the reservoir shoreline.

Wyoming's continental climate creates distinct camping seasons with harsh winters and pleasant summers. Most primitive sites lack winter maintenance, though several RV parks near Gillette remain open year-round with electrical hookups essential during cold months. As one camper noted about All Seasons RV Park, it's "about 3 miles off I-90 and quiet. So many parks are right beside the expressway you can't get away from the noise." Fire restrictions frequently affect the region during dry summer periods, with bans sometimes extending into fall. Non-residents should prepare for additional fees at state parks, which can significantly increase costs. Cell service varies considerably, with stronger coverage in Gillette proper and diminishing signal strength in outlying areas.

The Devils Tower area receives consistently high ratings from visitors for its unique landscape and camping experience. "The views of Devils Tower are wonderful. There is a trail up to the tower leads straight from the campground," reported one Belle Fourche Campground visitor. First-come, first-served sites at national monument campgrounds fill quickly during summer months, often by mid-afternoon. Prairie dogs are commonly spotted near Devils Tower campgrounds, adding wildlife viewing opportunities. Keyhole State Park campgrounds offer water recreation access with spacious sites, though some visitors note the sites can be unlevel. During major events in Gillette, campground prices may increase substantially, making advance reservations essential for travelers with firm itineraries. Campers seeking the best campgrounds near Gillette should consider both proximity to attractions and seasonal availability when planning their stay.

      Devils Tower KOA

      Nice KOA

They were so helpful when we had to change our reservation due to truck issues. The campground is nice, with a pool and hot showers. Each shower is unisex and accessed independently of the washroom/toilets. Very clean and hot water. All sites have a good view of devils tower and the campsite is located just outside the entrance to the monument. However, shade is limited in most sites and as it was very hot (102) when we were here we ate our meals in the camper in A/C The dog park is nice with toys and water available. If you need groceries, the closest place is 30 miles away (Sundance). My son enjoyed the pool and meeting other folks. I spent the time with a local mechanic trouble shooting issues with my tow vehicle. If in the area and have issues with your tow vehicle I highly recommend Josh at H&H

Tatanka Campground — Keyhole State Park

      Nice little state park

This is a nice campground although a bit pricey for nonresidents ($55/night for water & elec). The lake is pretty although there is a lot of vegetation in it. If we were here for more than just one night I would have taken my paddle board out. It was nice to watch the fish jumping in the lake in the early morning. There are trees so you get shade and the sites are not too close together. My site had a large grassy area between the campsite and the lake where I could let the dog run for a bit. I did not check out the toilets or shower house. I would stay here again, it’s not too far off of I90 and I was able to book a site the morning of the night I wanted to stay.

Belle Fourche Campground at Devils Tower — Devils Tower National Monument

Peaceful, spiritual, just know no hook-ups

This is my 3rd visit in 11 years at this non-reservable place. There's something about this national monument that keeps me coming back, and camping here is part of that draw. There are 2 loops, many sites are shaded by huge cottonwoods, 1 running-water bathroom building per loop. Each loop has ADA sites. Sites are large, flat, well spaced and pull-thru, and can accommodate large RVs. The sites are grassy and shade is available for tenters who pay attention to east/west movements. Potable water faucets are sprinkled about (Ha-ha), but none set-up for direct rv fill. Cost (7/26) is $20, or $10 for carded seniors. Generators allowed 8 to 8. *Now here's the important part: come here. Visit this unique national monument that is aways off from the interstate and can only be seen if you come here deliberately. You won't forget it. And the campground never fills up, so plan on staying at least 1 night to see the incredible stars.

Tatanka Campground — Keyhole State Park

      Showers HORRIBLE !

The SHOWERS/bathrooms are horrible! There was mold up the walls 6 inches. You have to walk about 1/4 miles to get to the shower building and walk on a busy blacktop road because there is NO WALKING PATH BESIDE THE COUNTY BLACKTOP ROAD, very dangerous because there is no shoulder on the road to walk on.

It smells like a sewage spill outside of the bathroom/shower house.

Warning: the showers take quarters, 50 cents at a time and the COIN MACHINE IS ALWAYS BROKEN so bring a LOT of quarters! I tried calling the phone number on the machine and never got any answer.

The vault toilets were extremely dirty and smell awful. The solar powered lights inside the toilets do not work.

The campground is laid out nicely. The lake area next to the campground is beautiful.

A lot of boats and ATV’s are at the campground. People leave big bright lights on ALL NIGHT to shine on their ATV’s and boats!

      Wyoming RV Park

      Small simple and clean

If you're seeking a full-service RV park for an overnight stay or while working in the area, this is a clean and reliable option. It offers full hook-ups at a reasonable price, though there are no bathrooms or shower facilities on-site. Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, the park felt safe. The owners are friendly and dedicated to creating a welcoming environment; however, they are not on-site, so be sure to call ahead to check in. Moorcroft is an old town with limited lodging options, and this park provides convenient highway access, making it a practical choice.

Tatanka Campground — Keyhole State Park

      Good Campground for Lake Access

This campground and state park all appear to have to do with the lake and water activities. The water is beautiful; the Tatanka campground, not so much. It's crowded with little to no privacy.

Belle Fourche Campground at Devils Tower — Devils Tower National Monument

      FCFS - Go For It!

Despite a huge KOA just outside the Devil's Tower National Monument entrance, this first come first serve campground appears to be easy to find a spot if you arrive 5:00 or earlier. Camp is clean and we'll maintained. No hookups, but most sites are spacious and several have great views of Devil's Tower. Bathrooms have flush toilets and sinks, but no showers.

      Devils Tower View Campground

      Great view, uneven sites

The view was excellent but the campsite itself was uneven and we were unable to get our RV level it was so bad. Also very tight getting in. Good place to stop for the night but arrive before dark and bring lots of blocks if you want a level spot.

    Guide to Gillette

Camping sites near Gillette, Wyoming range from basic RV courts to scenic riverside campgrounds near Devils Tower. Located in northeastern Wyoming at an elevation of 4,554 feet, this region experiences temperature swings of 40-50 degrees between day and night, even in summer months. Many Gillette-area campgrounds remain accessible year-round, though winter camping requires cold-weather preparation with temperatures regularly dropping below freezing.

    What to do

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Prairie dog colonies are abundant near Belle Fourche Campground at Devils Tower, creating excellent photography opportunities. "We have a perfect view of devil's tower! This campground has the best hosts and it's really clean and campsites are spacious," notes one camper. The surrounding area also hosts deer, pronghorn, and wild turkeys.

Visit the National Monument: Devils Tower rises dramatically from the surrounding landscape, drawing visitors year-round. "This is one of the best we've stayed at on our cross country trip! We have a perfect view of devil's tower!" reports a Belle Fourche Campground visitor. The monument offers multiple hiking trails accessible directly from the campground.

Early morning stargazing: Wyoming's dark skies provide exceptional stargazing conditions. A Devils Tower KOA visitor shared, "Rolled in late at night, had a perfect spot that we noticed that light which perfectly is set just outside base of devils tower nothing better than waking up to that morning." The area's minimal light pollution makes it ideal for night photography.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Multiple campgrounds maintain well-kept bathrooms and showers. At All Seasons RV Park, a visitor noted, "Spotless showers and laundry. Will recommend." Another camper mentioned the "very basic but with full hookups and large sites" with clean facilities.

Quiet locations away from highway noise: Several campgrounds offer peaceful settings removed from interstate traffic. "About 3 miles off I-90 and quiet. So many parks are right beside the expressway you can't get away from the noise," a camper observed about All Seasons RV Park. The distance from highways creates noticeably quieter camping experiences.

Affordable camping options: Many campsites near Gillette maintain reasonable rates compared to other tourist destinations. At Little Powder River Reservoir, a camper found "a great find and it's free!! Just pass the Weston turn off at Highway 49 and 59 on the right if you're heading north." The reservoir offers a vault toilet, picnic table, and fishing pond.

    What you should know

Limited tent camping facilities: Many Gillette-area campgrounds cater primarily to RVs with limited tent accommodations. At High Plains RV Resort & Campground, a camper observed, "Not geared for tent camping... We literally are the only ones in a tent. The rest of the people here seem to be long term RVs." Tent campers should call ahead to confirm availability.

Weather preparation essential: Wyoming's climate brings unpredictable conditions year-round. A Belle Fourche Campground visitor reported: "We just fallen asleep then woken by the sounds of a large bear roaring very close to us... Finally realized IT WAS A MAN SNORING!?! NO JOKE! Finally fell back asleep couple hours later woken by what sounded like a shot... Woke up in the morning to find a GIANT tree branch broke off and landed in the middle of the grounds."

Fire restrictions vary seasonally: Many campgrounds implement fire bans during dry periods. Devils Tower View Campground permits fires when conditions allow, with a visitor noting, "Amazing little place to camp. Terriffic ciews of the tower, super friendly staff, nice bathrooms." Check current fire regulations before planning campfires.

    Tips for camping with families

Look for campgrounds with extras: Some locations offer additional amenities for children. "This campground is wonderful. It's reasonably priced and has a gym, laundry, and showers!" noted a visitor to Greentrees Crazy Woman Campground. The variety of facilities helps keep children entertained.

Be aware of lighting conditions: Hospital and parking structure lights can affect sleeping quality at in-town campgrounds. A Greentrees Crazy Woman Campground visitor warned: "This campground is in town and backs up to a hospital. All the tent sights are about 50' from the parking garage. It was so we'll lit I could have read a book without a flashlight."

Plan for limited grocery access: Many campgrounds sit far from stores. An All Seasons RV Park camper noted, "The amenities were to far to walk to from our site and the nearest grocery store was about 10 miles away." Pack supplies before arriving, especially for more remote camping areas.

    Tips from RVers

Spacious sites available for larger rigs: Several campgrounds accommodate substantial RVs. At Devils Tower View Campground, a camper found "Very convenient pull through rv sites right down the road from the National Monument." The campground provides adequate space for larger recreational vehicles.

Cash-only policies at some locations: A few campgrounds don't accept credit cards. A Greentrees Crazy Woman visitor emphasized, "NOTE: CASH ONLY. They don't take credit or debit card." Call ahead to confirm payment options and ATM availability.

Level sites important for comfort: RV campers should check site conditions when booking.
