USFS Teton Canyon Campground permits pets across its 19 secluded sites on the western side of the Tetons. Campers with dogs enjoy numerous hiking trails directly from the campground while maintaining proper bear awareness. Pets must remain leashed within campground boundaries, and owners are required to clean up after their animals. The campground provides bear-proof boxes at each site for storing pet food alongside human food. Shadow Mountain Dispersed Camping and Upper Teton View Dispersed sites also allow pets with similar wildlife safety requirements. Accommodations for pets extend to tent sites, RV spaces, and in some locations, cabin options. The less-visited western approach to the Tetons means significantly fewer tourists compared to the national park's main entrances.

Teton Canyon offers excellent trails for leashed dogs, with several trailheads accessible from the campground itself. The road to reach the campground is gravel but easily navigable in most vehicles when driven at moderate speeds. Campers should be prepared for potential wildlife encounters, including moose that have been known to frequent campsites in the morning hours. Water access for dogs is available via North Fork Teton Creek running adjacent to the campground. The area often experiences cold overnight temperatures even in summer months, with July evenings sometimes dropping into the 30s. Summer visitors should prepare for mosquitoes, particularly near water sources. With no cell service available in most of the canyon, pet owners should identify veterinary services in nearby Driggs or Victor before arrival.

      Alpine Valley RV Resort

      Wrongly warned

Stayed 4 nights, campground is well maintained. Check in went smothly. RV spots are on concrete and level. So glad we already had a water regulator. We were told as we were checking in that we definitely needed one due to pressure being 90psi. Campground is about an hour and 15 minutes from The Grand Tetons. Not worth the drive for the amount of money it is to stay at this campground. The patios and grass area at RV sites are plush but if you have dogs you can't put up dog fencing. The dog play area had 1 bench for owners to sit. The gate for the dog park was very loosely secured. No water hose or faucet available to get water for your dog while at dog park. We had neighbors that complained about our dogs playing to loudly. Then, on our last night we were doing some pre packing to leave the campground the next morning. It was 8:40pm and we heard a knock at our door, the dogs were being quiet and we weren't expecting anyone. Went to the door and it was an employee from the campground to tell us that we had our outside lights on. I was confused and asked the man what time it was? He said it's 8:45. Then, to confirm, I asked what time we had to have the lights turned off the outside and he said 10pm was quiet time and all lights should be off. I assured him we had read the rules and we knew we had to have the lights off by 10pm and we also knew when quiet time started, and that we were planning on having the lights off before then. We weren't doing anything wrong so why in the world did he come to our RV to tell us our lights were on as if we were doing something wrong. Felt unwelcomed, our money is as good as anyone else's. Very RUDE!

      Sugar City RV Park

      Sugar City RV

Very nice "state of the art" RV Park. Clean showers, nice clothes wash facilities, dog friendly with fenced run area, cat approved by "Liza", just in her trailer trash tabby space. Great access to Tetons and Yellowstone, good shopping overall in Sugar City and nearby Rexburg. But ! It's not boondocking or cheap, so we'll live with it for our Yellowstone and Teton visit

      Alpine North Loop Campground

      Small & Clean

Host is amazing! Campgrounds are good sizes and accommodates Travel trailers and fifth wheels. Does have group camping. No water hookup, no electricity and no showers. There is noises from the vehicles on the road nearby. It is close to the roads. Pet friendly.

      Fireside Resort at Jackson Hole

Great location, need to maintain sites better

As others have said the cabins are beautiful as is the entrance. The RV sites have all the basics you need and the park is very quiet and peaceful. The thing I didn't appreciate for the price we are paying is trash in our site and others people's pet waste that hadn't been picked up. Gross. I really hope they upgrade the sites a bit and improve the weeds to grass as it is a great location.

      Snake River Alpine Dispersed Camping

      Fun Place to Camp

Beautiful place to camp. The water is shallow and surrounded by mountains. You have to wade through mud to get to the water (which is also muddy). You can also still hear the highway traffic, but not bad. We visited in August, so the fires made the area hazy. The up sides: lots of space and privacy. Camp sites are super far apart in comparison to others. Fire pits are available and drift wood is everywhere. Some spots have trees for hammocks. Pet friendly and lots of bird watching.

      Curtis Canyon Campground

      Amazing views of the Tetons.

Free dispersed camping with an amazing view. We definitely enjoyed our stay. There were 16 sites total at this campground and the road gets tougher as you go. We had great AT&T and Sprint service at our campsite (1A). Mosquitos are abundant so come prepared. We also did see a bear at our campsite just down the valley but did not bother us. Pets are also welcome!

      Sheffield Campground

      Great Stay

We luckily found this gem of a campsite after looking in Yellowstone all day, we didn’t get here until later in the afternoon so I was very thankful to finally have somewhere to put up the tent. The camp host was so kind, we stayed in site #11 which is near the creek and by horses the trail riding place occasionally keeps there. My daughter loved petting the horses. Perfect spot between both parks, and we went and played in Snake River which the kids also loved. Gas station not far in case you need last minute things. Definitely recommend!

    Guide to Alta

Camping sites near Alta, Wyoming are positioned along the western side of the Teton Range, where elevations range from 6,000 to 8,000 feet. Summer temperatures can fluctuate dramatically, with daytime highs in the 70s dropping to the low 40s at night. The western approach to the Tetons offers distinct advantages for dog owners, as national forest campgrounds have more lenient pet policies than those within Grand Teton National Park.

    What to do

Kayaking on Teton River: Access Big Eddy/Rainey Campground for excellent water activities. "Beautiful spot with gorgeous views of the backside of the Teton range. Easy access to put on or take off the Teton River," notes Christine I. The campground serves as both a put-in and take-out point, making it convenient for water enthusiasts.

Mountain biking near Victor: Mike Harris Campground provides direct access to quality biking trails. "What most don't know is that it offers access to some of the best Mtn Bike Trails in our area. Rush hour, Nemo, and Mail Cabin are all great rides," shares Fletcher W. The campground's location makes it a perfect base for cyclists.

Wildlife viewing: Shadow Mountain offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities without park entrance fees. "We saw three moose inside this campground. Only stayed for a night but it sure was beautiful!" reports Taylor H. Early mornings provide the best wildlife spotting chances, particularly for moose and deer.

    What campers like

Off-season flexibility: Late spring and early fall camping offers fewer crowds but requires preparation. "We were under the impression you had to camp in Colter Bay to use the shower but it's $4.25 and open to the park," advises Haylea A., highlighting that certain amenities remain accessible even during shoulder seasons.

Western Teton access: USFS Teton Canyon Campground provides a quieter alternative to park campgrounds. "A wonderful and small camp ground. The restrooms are a bit rough, but worth it for the hiking. Get the back loop in the woods, away from the Dusty road," recommends Matthew L. These sites offer similar mountain views with significantly less tourist traffic.

Dispersed camping options: Upper Teton View Dispersed offers free camping with exceptional views. "We got here about 2:30PM on a Friday. May 30 2025. It had some people in the best spots but we were able to get a spot with a view," reports Lori J. These sites lack amenities but provide direct mountain views without cost.

    What you should know

Shower facilities limited: Most dog-friendly campgrounds near Alta lack shower facilities. "Colter Bay Village has restaurants, a lovely and well supplied market, a laundromat and pay showers. The laundromat/shower facility has wifi which extends out as far as the gift shop and market," notes Celina M., describing one of the few shower options in the area.

Road conditions vary: Access roads to more remote sites can be challenging. "The roads were a mangled mess and I thought we were going to get stuck or badly damage our Rav4," warns Ryan C. about incorrectly navigating to Big Eddy. Stick to main forest roads when possible, especially with larger vehicles.

Wildlife safety protocols: Shadow Mountain Dispersed Camping requires strict adherence to bear safety. "It also had a metal ring fire pit and bear box at every site!" reports Avery O. Always store pet food in bear boxes alongside human food, and never leave pet food unattended.

    Tips for camping with families

Look for ranger programs: Family-oriented activities are available at established campgrounds. "Church at the amphitheater was enjoyable, and the grocery store provided necessary items and ice cream treats daily!" shares Chelsea W. about Colter Bay Tent Village, which offers structured activities for children.

Site selection matters: Choose sites strategically based on bathroom proximity. "Our spot was right next to the bathrooms, which was handy. Though we didn't love the gravel box meant for the tent pad," notes Amy R. about Signal Mountain, highlighting the convenience of bathroom-adjacent sites for families.

Plan for temperature swings: Pack appropriate clothing for dramatic temperature changes. "The area often experiences cold overnight temperatures even in summer months," with temperatures sometimes dropping into the 30s even in July. Layered clothing is essential for children's comfort.

    Tips from RVers

Generator limitations: Many dog-friendly sites near Alta restrict generator usage. "Would have loved more elec. sites to keep from having to run the generator," mentions Nancy C. about Signal Mountain Campground, indicating the limited electrical hookup options in the area.

Water access planning: "Water not near sites, so be sure to fill up before heading to site," advises Nancy C., highlighting the importance of arriving with full water tanks as many campgrounds have centralized water sources rather than at individual sites.

Early arrival recommended: Arrive before mid-afternoon to secure preferred sites. "We arrived around 2PM on our first day and all sites were full, we came back around 8 the next morning and found one site available for us to take," explains Ryan L. about Shadow Mountain, a pattern common across dog-friendly campgrounds in the area.
