      Wisconsin Dells KOA

Good campground for families with kids

A central playground and pool are the biggest draws for families with kids. There's also a prospecting 'sluice' that you can buy for the kids to look for 'fossils' and interesting rocks.

The campground is located just north of the main attractions of Wisconsin Dells.

Campsites are not overly generous in size -- typical KOA, where some are 'stacked like cordwood'. Don't go there if you want any privacy from your neighbors.

Cabins are available for those wanting to 'camp' without a camper.

      Very small dog park area.

Friendly check in staff. However, we were given a map with our campsite noted and told to wait for a person driving a golf cart to escort us and help us get situated. We waited...and waited...and waited...golf carts came and went, but passed us by. We finally gave up waiting and found out site by ourselves.

      Ho-Chunk RV Resort & Campground

Convenient RV Stay Near the Dells

Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells RV Park is a nice option if you want an easy RV stay close to the casino and Wisconsin Dells attractions. I like that it feels convenient and low-hassle, with full hook-up sites, Wi-Fi, showers, laundry, a playground, pet area, and access to some hotel/casino amenities.

Pros: great location, full hook-ups, convenient amenities, close to entertainment.

Cons: it is more practical than scenic, and it is RV-only, so no tent camping.

Overall, it’s a good pick if you want a comfortable RV base near the Dells instead of a rustic campground.

      Glacier Valley Campground

      Fun place

Nice, clean, well maintained campground with something for everyone. Swimming pond is huge with toys for everyone. You can bring your own pool toys. Sites are decently spacious and decently level with some gravel and some grass. Bathhouse is nice & clean. Office/store has some logo goodies as well as any necessities you may need. They had a beer tasting going on, live music at the pavilion- both on a Saturday during our stay. A couple trails around for walks with dogs & a dog park. Lively campground during the day but nice & quiet at night with quiet hours being 11pm-8am.

      Rocky Arbor State Park Campground

Wooded, beautiful, and secluded but nearby the Dells!

This park gives the option of both tent and camper sites. Many of the sites are separated from others by some space and numerous trees, tucked back away in the pine forest. The secluded nature gives it the feel of a National Park with beautiful stretches of pine and rocky ledges. Most sites are quiet, with only the slightest hum of the interstate in the background (although a couple may be loud, so beware which site you book). Staff is friendly and helpful, firewood is available at the park. Many pit toilets are available, as well as running water/showers. Playgrounds are also in the park, a pet area, water fill up station, some trails (nothing much for hiking). Very very close to the Dells as well! Mosquitoes are terrible during the summer, but that’s to be expected anywhere in Wisconsin.

      Duck Creek Campground

      Great place for the kids

The staff here was extremely friendly.  We did not spend a lot of time at the campground since we were there for the Dells on a long trip from Atlanta, GA to Duluth, MN.  The kids did have a blast in the pond and there is a really nice dog park that our pup enjoyed.  There is also a restaurant on site and a small bar down by the pond that were both closed while we were there (we came in after 4th of July weekend and they were taking some time off after the holiday) but seem like they would be great amenities.  We would definatley stay again if going to the Dells (about 30 min away).  Also, do yourself a favor and stock up at the Lodi Meat Market!

      High Cliff State Park Campground

      A Gem!

Woodsy camping, multiple hiking altitude options including cliff views of Lake Winnebago, historic burial mounds, preserved lime kilns, equine trails, picnicking area, boating opportunities and a beach for swimming. Spend a day or a week! You’ll never find yourself asking what to do. I grew up in the area and have been here many, many times. To camp, to hike for the day, to trudge into the campground during winter to have a day-fire, coordinate family reunions, train with a backpack on the lime-kiln trail and swimming with the dog. Really, it’s all here. Mostly not super busy and when the traffic is heavier, everyone is very nice. Picnic areas can get buggy as can the lake get green, all depends on the time of year and season. Family and pet friendly. Great spot near the Fox Valley.

The area features sandy soil conditions with a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees providing variable shade across most sites. Campers can expect seasonal temperature variations with summer highs typically reaching the 80s, while spring and fall camping brings cooler temperatures and fewer crowds.

    What to do

Hiking trails access: Hartman Creek State Park Campground provides extensive hiking opportunities with trail maps available at the ranger station. "There is ample hiking opportunities in the area, some you can walk to from the campground, some requires a small amount of driving," notes Jimmy P., who appreciated the variety of terrain.

Beach and swimming: The Hartman Creek State Park Campground maintains a clean beach area with designated swimming zones. "The lake was a smaller lake, but nice for swimming. They do a great job of keeping the beach and swimming area clean," reports a visitor who enjoyed the water activities.

Biking opportunities: The park features paved and unpaved trails ideal for different skill levels. "Paved roads and great off road cycling access," mentions Ame G., while another camper adds, "Enjoy bringing the family's bikes and love the single trail bike paths through the woods."

Water recreation: Multiple lakes provide opportunities for various water activities. "Hartman Creek is a nice small lake, with no wake. There is now a rental building available with kayaks, paddle boats, SUP, etc to rent," shares Jen E., who took her family kayaking.

    What campers like

Private wooded sites: Many campsites offer natural privacy barriers between sites. "Our site was larger, almost fully shaded under a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees," describes a visitor to Hartman Creek State Park Campground, highlighting the natural setting.

Clean facilities: Pearl Lake RV Campground maintains high standards for its amenities. "The bathrooms are ok but the showers are different. You must push a button every 20 seconds to keep the water coming," notes a camper who still rated the experience highly overall.

Family-friendly activities: Evergreen Campsites and Resort offers structured entertainment for all ages. "They had trick or treating and a golf cart parade," mentions a visitor who appreciated the Halloween celebration, while another guest notes, "We expected the worst, given the weekend with noisy neighbors and fireworks. Wow we're we wrong! The guests were all SO courteous, pleasant and a joy to be around!"

Lake access: Many campers appreciate the proximity to water. "Our site was located overlooking Allen Lake, right in the tall pines. It was a great location, enough trees for kids to hang hammocks for a little relaxation," shares a visitor who enjoyed fishing from the pier at Hartman Creek.

    What you should know

Cell service limitations: Not all carriers work well in the area. "The only cell service available in the area is AT&T. As a Verizon subscriber, we were completely off grid the entire weekend, unless we used our car as a hotspot," advises a camper at Evergreen Campsites and Resort.

Ground bees: Some sites may have ground bee issues during warmer months. "Reported ground bees on our sight 3 times no one came," mentions Diane G., highlighting the importance of checking your site upon arrival.

Sandy soil: Hartman Creek's terrain presents unique considerations. "The only thing I didn't like was the sandy soil, but otherwise our site was awesome," shares a camper, noting the characteristic that's common in the Wild Rose region.

Seasonal availability: Most campgrounds operate from mid-April through mid-October. Pearl Lake RV Campground specifically runs "Apr 15 to Oct 15," while some facilities offer limited winter availability.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: S'Mores Campground offers dedicated play areas for children. "Right next to the pool was a huge and brand new kids play area. They also have rock mining for kids located by the pool which the kids loved," shares a visitor who camped with 10-year-olds.

Pet-friendly cabins: Rustic Woods Campgrounds welcomes pets in their cabin accommodations. "Many ongoing and scheduled activities. Pool, volleyball court, horseshoe pits, Cornhole, basketball court, playground," notes Donna S., detailing the numerous family-oriented amenities available.

Swimming options: Multiple swimming areas cater to different preferences. "The pool is very well maintained and kept, plenty of chairs to use and tables," mentions a visitor to S'Mores Campground, while Hartman Creek offers a more natural swimming experience.

Wildlife viewing: The natural setting provides opportunities to observe animals. "My son was pretty enamored by all of the awesome wildlife we saw on the strip. Might've been the time of year but it was just beautiful," shares Melissa B. about her family's experience at Fremont RV Campground.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: Pearl Lake RV Campground features numerous pull-through sites. "The roads connecting the sites are adequately wide. Just know that all of the sites are 90 degree back ins which can be tight with longer rigs," advises Jeremy B., offering practical advice for larger vehicles.

Hookup availability: Most campgrounds offer electric and water connections. "All campsites babe electric and water," notes a camper at S'Mores Campground, though amenities vary by location and specific site.

Sanitary facilities: Dump stations are available at multiple locations. "This campground has been my favorite so far this year! Great customer service and the other campers were the best," shares a visitor to Pearl Lake who appreciated the well-maintained facilities.

Off-season considerations: Rustic Woods Campgrounds has varying amenity availability by day of week. "The bar & grill is only open Thursday-Saturday. This is also where you need to go to get items for mini golf and is attached to the ice cream shop, arcade, etc," advises Jason W., suggesting campers plan accordingly.
