Best RV Parks & Resorts near Sarona, WI

RV parks around Sarona include Country Quiet RV Park in Cumberland with full hookups, fifty-amp electric service, and easy access for large motorhomes. The level gravel pads accommodate big rigs, with many pull-through sites available for easier maneuvering. "The pad was concrete and level, included a nice patio, a picnic table, some nice planters and well maintained grass," noted one visitor about a nearby park. Treeland Farm RV Resort in Hayward operates from May through mid-October with full hookup sites, spacious pull-through spots for larger rigs, and concrete patios. Birch Lakes RV Park in Birchwood features electric and sewer hookups with fifty-amp service while St. Croix Casino RV Park in Turtle Lake offers water and electric hookups with a dump station on premises.

Several parks in the region remain open from early May through October with varying reservation requirements. Washburn County's Totogatic Park provides electric-only sites in its older, wooded section and full hookups in the newer area, though one camper noted "absolutely ridiculous placement of the dump station that requires maneuvering around one of the campground loops." Cell service varies significantly between parks, with many reporting weak Verizon signals of 1-2 bars. Most RV parks accept pets with standard leash requirements. Winter camping options are limited, as the majority of facilities close by late October. Propane services are available at select locations including Lake Chippewa Campground, which also offers site-side trash pickup and boat rentals for guests with longer stays.

    Lake Chippewa Campground

    Still One of Our Favs

As we arrived on a Saturday around 1:45 PM, there was quite the line of RVs checking in as most people come in for a week on Saturdays. As we have been here multiple times, we knew not to line up down the narrow road shoot that’s adjacent to the lodge where you check in but stay on the main road. They had plenty of staff on duty, so check-in was fairly quick, and we headed to site 457, which was an easy back-in with FHUs. We were pleasantly surprised we didn’t get site 456 right on the road. When we make a reservation for this campground(CG), you can only pick an area, not a specific site, for most of the sites. This was the first time we’d stayed in this area of mixed short-term and seasonal sites. The FHU facilities were placed in the middle of the gravel-grass site with a picnic table and fire pit. We were able to put out our back patio and have plenty of space to park our F450. There are a lot of mature trees in this park, so satellite is going to be iffy depending on the site. We were able to get an okay shot to the north for Starlink but no chance for the southern sky. You can opt to pay for the park Wi-Fi. The water pressure is good, and we had two bars on Verizon. The staff at the lodge/office is top-notch. We found out that this year’s“watch out” was kids riding electric bikes full out versus underage golf cart drivers of last year, so“watch out” in either case. The CG has been trying to police the lack of parental oversight, but this first-rate CG attacks a lot of families. Though there’s no formal dog park, there are plenty of areas to walk your dog, including the trail up and around the newer primitive camping area. Lake Chip is one of our favs, and we will continue to return.

    Pathfinder Village-St Croix

    Tall Tall Trees

Lots of tall evergreen trees (not sure of the specific species) here that you are nestled in. Have to know a seasonal site holder to camp here. Sites can be a little tricky backing into because of the trees, but ultimately they have enough space even for large rigs(there were three of us there: 2 5th wheels and one longer travel trailer). A picnic table and fire ring was provided at each site. Nice easy road to navigate getting into the campground. Close to Hinckley if you're looking for things to do!

    Moose Lake

    Low trafficked, backwoods and quiet

If you are looking for tons of activities, close to town, cell service and amenities, this isn't your camp. What it does offer is a deep backwoods experience, isolation and quiet.

Vibe: Backwoods isolation. Only a dozen or so spots. Some haven’t had campers in weeks. Only 4 occupied the night we stayed.

    Cleanliness: Average.

    Facilities: Minimal. Two vault toilets.

General spots: Big, well spaced, lots of privacy. Heavily forested trees and lots of shade.

Our site: 7. Close to beach. Has its own little trail to beach. Noise: Occasional boat on the lake. Other than that, only the sounds of nature.

Cell signal: Almost none. Unusable. Can’t send texts or make calls.

Other: Beach is small grass beach. No animals allowed. Geese can’t read and have covered it with droppings. Bugs not awful, but tough to dissuade. Some resorts around, but I wouldn’t count on getting supplies near here. Come well stocked.

    Wild River State Park Campground

    Lots to Explore/Learn

I’ll say, one of the best parts of this park is all the interpretative kiosks. Love learning about the forestry and history of state parks!  Also many options for trails which is great. A lot of wildlife here, I heard a ton of coyotes and geese, a woodpecker, and a beaver under the bridge in the evening chomping away at peeling logs... totally scared me at first but he was just doing his job and I tried not to bother him!

I stayed at the backpacking site: SPRING. It’s just a short hike (bout 400 meters)  from the river access where there is a vaulted toilet snd water year-round. The site had a bench overlooking the river and a rugged stair for water access. Also had a little personal rustic toilet just a trail behind the site. Nice and wooded campsite, soft dirt, and fairly spacious! In wet months, I bet it's pretty muddy. The only drawback is that the trail it’s situated on is the hiking club trail and heavily trafficked. I stayed in winter, where you could see through the trees and all that tho. Maybe in summer, it’s more secluded? But still, something to keep in mind.

Took a peek at the campground- some of the most spaced out and wooded sites I’ve seen yet. I like that they made it in separated loops, to avoid through traffic distracting your stay. Love the visitors center, great overlook, and interesting information. By the trail center, which is also very cozy and rents, skis and snowshoes and has a great inside fireplace, there is an interpretative walk about white pines- great for kids to imagine those huge trees! They do a great job aiding the imagination as you walk along the short trail.

Camper cabins here are up on a bluff- didn’t stay there but totes want to! Nicely situated.

Everything that I checked out here was very well managed and they clearly put a lot of time and care into making this park functional, interesting, and accessible. I loved my little backpack site but can’t wait to come back to camp in the summer or rent a cabin! The river is gorgeous, even as it was frozen in winter!

    Pardun’s Jack Pine Campground

    Small and quaint

    5/15/20-5/17/20

This campground is only a year old and offers 31 RV sites with full hookups 30- or 50-Amp Service (greywater dump at each site) and 19 wooded (some semi-private) tent sites. They have a beautiful bath and shower house (the shower takes quarters $1.25 for 10 minutes) and sell wood on site for $5 a bundle. It is just over the MN border and about a mile from the St Croix River. ATV trails are accessible from the campground.

Pardun’s also offers canoe and tube rentals in town and also at St. Croix State Park - which sounds wonderful on hot summer days. It’s not far from town which includes a grocery store and St Croix Casino. St Croix State Park is also about 20 minutes away in MN and a great place to explore with miles of hiking. I found the pricing very reasonable at $30 a night for RVs and $17 for tent sites. $1200 for seasonal. The owner came over to meet us and was very friendly.

We chose site tent site 17. Each site has a large fire ring and picnic table. This site had a few trees and was fairly open but it didn’t matter because there was only 1 other group camping in the tent area. It was very quiet and peaceful, very easy to social distance during the pandemic. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway to enjoy a fire and night under the stars, this is perfect little campground.

Guide to Sarona

RV campgrounds near Sarona, Wisconsin provide a range of seasonal accommodations from spring through fall, with most facilities closing by late October. The region sits within Wisconsin's lake country, approximately 1,200 feet above sea level, and experiences warm summers with daytime temperatures averaging 75-85°F. Winter camping options are severely limited due to heavy snowfall that typically begins in November.

What to do

Fishing access: Thornapple River Campground offers direct river access for anglers, with shallow, wading-friendly waters. "The Thorneapple River is a sleepy, winding river. There are campsites right on the river. You can float or wade in it; it's shallow and refreshing," notes camper Amanda W.

Boating options: Treeland Farm RV Resort provides complimentary non-motorized watercraft for guests. "You can also use peddle boats, kayaks, canoes, etc. for FREE! Or rent a boat or pontoon, which we did," reports Kim L., who visited in 2024.

Digital detox: Some campgrounds in the area offer limited connectivity, creating opportunities for genuine outdoor experiences. One visitor to Treeland Farm RV Resort appreciated that the campground provides "good food, drinks, amazing fishing, and NO service. That is the best part. This place takes you away from everything. Welcome to real camping."

What campers like

Well-maintained sites: Country Quiet RV Park and Campground features an efficient layout with ample space between sites. "This is a very nice RV Park. There's plenty of sites and they appear to be expanding. Sites are fairly spread out. Easy loop system makes this campground very easy to navigate through," reports Judy B.

Natural surroundings: Many campgrounds maintain substantial tree coverage for shade and privacy. At Treeland Farm RV Resort, visitors appreciate waking up surrounded by nature: "Step out of your RV in the a.m. and smell the pines! Large pull through sites. Wooded, concrete patio, picnic table, fire pit. Very quiet."

Seasonal community: Some campgrounds function more as seasonal communities than transient camping areas. Wolf's Den RV Campground Resort & Tavern features many permanent setups. "This campground isn't really a campground, it is more like a summer community. A majority of sites are taken up with permanent RV set ups, and some are super huge and elaborate."

What you should know

Campground types vary: Sarona area campgrounds range from quiet, rustic settings to more developed parks with amenities. "If your looking for rustic quiet I would look into some of the smaller county campgrounds," advises one Country Quiet RV Park visitor.

Seasonal operations: Most RV parks operate from May through mid-October with specific opening and closing dates. Thornapple River Campground runs from May 1 to October 1, while others like Country House Lodging extends slightly longer to October 10.

Service availability: Local amenities vary by location. At Thornapple River Campground, "Stores are about 7 minutes away," according to Amanda W. For tank servicing, some campgrounds offer on-site solutions: "The hosts will pump your tanks for a $10 fee."
