What to do
Paddle Mirror Lake: The calm waters at Mirror Lake State Park make it perfect for kayaking and canoeing. "The lake is great for kayaking. Lots of sandstone cliffs," notes Julia B., who adds that "the hiking trails are well maintained."
Visit Ishnala Supper Club: Located just a short walk from campgrounds at Mirror Lake. "Visit the best supper club in the US, Ishnala - there is a trail straight there. Must go to for couples ❤️," recommends Heather H. from Cliffwood Campground.
Enjoy family-friendly activities: Yogi Bear TM Camp-Resort & Waterplayground offers themed weekends and activities. "We stayed on site 120, a 'red carpet' site which means full hooks ups, grill, fire pit, cement slab, 2 wrist bands to do the activities and 2 welcome drinks," explains Kelli V., who adds, "They do Yogi Bear Cartoons each night which is neat!"
Fish at local ponds: Several campgrounds maintain stocked fishing ponds. At Skillet Creek Campground, Melissa K. notes, "There is a fishing pond that allows fishing without a license. Catch and release only. There are bass and pan fish as well as snapping turtles."
What campers like
Private wooded sites: Campers consistently mention privacy at Skillet Creek Campground. "The campground was well maintained and a few minutes from Devil's Lake. Bathrooms were very clean and showers were free. Nice playground for the kids and a small fishing pond," shares Kendra R.
Clean facilities: Bathrooms and showers receive frequent praise. Lindsay L. comments on Chapparal Campground: "This ultra clean campground has amazing shower and bathroom facilities... The showers take quarters, but they are hot, have good pressure, and a quarter gets you a lot of shower time."
Water recreation options: Swimming ponds with inflatable play structures are popular. "The pond had lots of great inflatables for the kids to climb on, and even the adults enjoyed them. The sand was clean with plenty of lounge chairs," says Kelly M. about Baraboo RV Resort.
Proximity to attractions: Most cabin rentals offer easy access to Wisconsin Dells. "Great location really close to Devil's Lake State Park and very clean," says Justyna B. about Skillet Creek Campground, adding it's just "a few minutes from Devil's Lake."
What you should know
Highway noise: Some cabins near Mirror Lake State Park experience traffic noise. "The highway noise is loud and some military jets kept flying overhead," mentions Julia B., while Larry A. warns, "The campground is really nice. The facilities are excellent. However it's really close to the interstate and the road noise is awful."
Reservation requirements: Cabin rentals fill quickly, especially at Fox Hill RV Park & Campground. Jennifer K. shares, "We rented a pull thru site for the evening since we came into the Dells for a wedding. The campground offered a variety of activities for kids which was something that would draw us back to the campground again."
Wildlife encounters: Be prepared for local wildlife. "The raccoons were brutal. They broke into our crates twice. Smart enough to figure out the clip mechanism," reports Julia B. about Mirror Lake State Park.
Site variations: Many campgrounds have both shaded and exposed sites. Kim L. observes about Fox Hill RV Park, "The new section will be a lot better next year, but just finished construction and it is still a wide open area. It was dusty and hot because the grass isn't grown in yet, there's still a ton of sand, and no trees."
Tips for camping with families
Look for cabin camping with kid-friendly amenities: Wisconsin Dells KOA offers family facilities. "They have a nice little pool and splash pad. Camp store and polite staff," notes Jeff G., who adds, "Nearly no privacy, but you're probably not here for the nature."
Choose cabins with outdoor gathering spaces: When booking Loganville area cabins, select sites with adequate outdoor space. "We were able to have 3 pop ups and 2 tents on 3 sites. We also rented a cabin for the great grandparents," shares Megan P. about Arrowhead RV Campground.
Bring games for rainy days: Weather can be unpredictable. Suzanne R. recommends, "Head into Hillsboro and try an IPA from Hillsboro Brewery- great pizza too... 25 Min. to the Dells should you have a rainy day or head 10 minutes to Lake Redstone to fish."
Select cabins close to bathrooms: For families with young children, bathroom proximity matters. "We had site 204 because it looked enormous (it is) and it has a good sized parking lot... Close to a bathroom with showers and the paved trail," shares Krista T. about Mirror Lake State Park.
Tips from RVers
Bring extension cords for cabins: Power outlet placement can be awkward. "Good place. Bring extension cord. Make sure you bring 50 ft of electrical cord and water hose. They do offer to barrow their extension cords," advises Travis I. about Arrowhead RV Campground.
Plan for site limitations: Some campgrounds have tight spaces between cabins. "Our site was very unlevel side to side. It took two 2x6 and a 1x6 under the camp side to be level," shares Jeff G. about Fox Hill, who also notes, "For a campground so close to the Wisconsin Dells, it rises well above the crowd of places that aren't much more than a place to squat your camper."
Check Wi-Fi availability: Internet access varies widely. Scott K. notes about Arrowhead, "Wifi has been good so far. We streamed a little tv last night," while another camper mentioned spotty service at other locations.
Verify seasonal closures: Most cabin rentals near Loganville operate seasonally. "Beautiful area, sites are situated with the terrain which can make them interesting to get into. They're gravel and mostly level," observes Dave P. about Arrowhead RV Campground, which like many in the area operates from "mid April to mid October."
