We needed a place after visiting the House on the Rock and couldn't find anything with hookups nearby. We stumbled upon Tom's Campground hoping to find a site. We pulled in and Tom met us at our camper as soon as we got to the top of the hill and before we even got out. He was very friendly and informative. Showers were good enough but we aren't picky, 7 minutes for $0.25. The area was beautiful.
You are right on the Wapsi River. The owners are super sweet and easy going! They also offer Tubes,Kayaks,Canoes and a Shuttle service to float on the Wapsi River. They offer a few cabins for rentals. They have a dump station also.
Friendly and well kept.
Campground is convenient to Galena and Dubuque. We stayed in site 73, which they call a double. If the campground is full, it would be pretty tight. No negatives I encountered here to mention.
Catering to RV life style with lots of amenities such as restaurant, beach bar, water feature with floating water obstacle course, pool and more. Occasionally live music is on the beach. For us, the freight trains crushed the experience. Trains ran all night long, park is near a crossing so trains sound the horn each time they pass. We had an infant with us so we were up all night however we spoke with people who stay there often and they said you get acclimated. I gave this site 3 stars because the staff and amenities are great but can not give 5 starts due to the location in proximity to the trains. It really is a bummer.
We stayed in the cabins, which were in great condition and spacious. The camp sites look very roomy, and they are spread out in several sperate area which helps minimize congestion. Beautiful area that is well secluded, especially since it is so close to the city.
Mostly a seasonal campground, only has 4 sites that are for weekenders. Very nice folks running the place. The neighbors where also very welcoming. Sites were closer then I would like would be the only negative. Nature reserve accessible from campground. We took several walks and bike rides around it. There is also a pool and a club house on property, however we did not visit them. There is ATT service, but not strong. There is also WiFi, but also not strong. We will be back.
This is a large park with several surrounding camp grounds. Specifically in Bald Eagle, our spot is one of the best with plenty of shade and space. This camp has water, elec and sewer.
Love how it's so roomy and homey
We like the upper campground the best the lower campground the lower loop had a lot of small campsites
Some sites were tight and the lack of fire rings was disappointing.
Very spacious, grassy and clean. There are a lot of people with RVs so it’s pretty lively. There is a Walmart right next to it. The bathrooms are clean. They host events like mini golf. Swings and playground for kids. Would stay there again
Gorgeous surrounding, something for everyone. No strict rules. Environmental center for kids and adults alike and a cafe. Lots of bugs, high humidity and it can flood . Electric hookups no water hookups but a pump at many sites.
Love it. Very clean. Trees for shade and concrete pads with pull thru. Live music and activities for all ages. Will be back.
This campground has an assortment of primitive and electrical sites. They also have cabins and canoe/kayak rental, a visitor shop with food/drink and a mini museum of the local wildlife. Great place for the family.
Nice rural setting, peaceful and nice scenery. Showers could be updated and it does cost 25 cents for a 7 minute shower. Camping sites reasonably priced only take cash or a check. Would have no problems staying there again.
This was our first Jellystone experience and will not be our last!! Great campground and an amazing staff!! Our kids had so much fun!!
Eden Valley Refuge is a nice out of the way campground on the banks of Bear Creek. We stayed in the RV/Camper side of the campground which is on the other side of the road from the refuge and trails. We stayed in spot #10 with was nice and roomy. All 28 sites have electric and water. Some are a little closer together than others, but there's a few jems with plenty of space. The bathrooms are nice & clean with showers. There's also an outdoor shower. There's a nice playground for the kids and a horse shoe pit. The camp host was very friendly and helpful. There's also plenty of trails and primitive campsites on the other side of the park, but we didn't have a chance to check them out this time.
The campgrounds are very nice. They have clean bathrooms, a nicely stocked store, and a couple playgrounds. Thay also have an Eco Center with turtles, snakes, and an aquarium that our family really enjoyed. The grounds are on backwaters of the Mississippi so there are boat ramps, docks, and areas to fish. The camp store also offers canoe, kayak, and other boat rentals. Our site was pretty flat, although it was a little tricky backing into it. They put the site number posts at the end of the pad near the road and our site had a tree on the other side, so we had to use the grass across the road to maneuver in and out. I'm not sure what the rules are, but there were a lot of dogs not tied up. Most people kept a close eye on them, but we had a couple wander through and do their business in our site. I also didn't notice anyone cleaning up after their dogs, so walk with caution.

I’m a bit biased on this one as Arnold Wulf is my great-grandfather, but I do have a lot of fond memories from this park.
Near Lost Nation, Oxford Junction, and Wyoming, IA this park is an unexpected find in rural, eastern Iowa. The camping areas have expanded. Plenty of hook-ups for RVs and such, but there are also some backcountry, hike-in sites off of the main trail. Most of the available camping is right off the road that goes through Eden Valley County Refuge, so that’s not the most ideal.
The swinging bridge and observation tower are the main structural attractions, but there are also several caves scattered about. Overall, very enjoyable and there aren’t a lot of places like this nearby. Worth a stop if you’re in the area.
The campground was higher up on the hill, it took a 5 minutes to hike down to the lake with lots of steep steps. Nice beach area. I spent two nights here with an RV. I had electric hookup.
It's a little hike in for the dispersed sites, but worth it to be in a secluded woodsy site. Was peaceful and relaxing. There is water and and an outdoor shower at the regular campsite across from where you park. There are pit toilets near the dispersed sites. Fire pit and picnic table at each site. Site 1 has more sun during the day and site 2 is right on a trail head connected to site 1. Easy enough trail to pull a wagon if needed.
This is a great place to stay when in the Galena area. It is about 40 minutes away, but is nice to be away from the traffic. The KOA store is well stocked and has some pretty cool souvenirs!
My family and I have been coming to this campground for over 6 years running now. We started with a tent and in the past 4 years we have moved up to a 40’ travel trailer we bought. This is by far my kids favorite place to go camping and we will continue coming here every year for as long as we can. If you and your family haven’t been here I highly recommend you go. The staff and amenities are the best by far. I promise you will have a great experience like we have.
Great for kids! The water attractions are great for the kiddos and the cabins aren’t half bad either!
This was a great getaway after being locked down for COVID-19. We had some great spots and a lot of open area. I would give it 5 Stars if everything was open.
