Lake Michigan access defines the camping experience at Kleinke Park Campground, where sites sit directly along the shoreline in Menominee. This municipal campground operates year-round with full hookups for RVs and accommodates tent campers, though the entrance can be difficult to spot without clear signage.
Most lakefront sites get reserved seasonally by RV trailers, leaving tent campers with less privacy but still maintaining water views. The beach allows wading in warmer months, and trees near the shoreline work well for hanging hammocks. "Brilliant sunrises over the lake" highlight early mornings, according to Sara S.. Bay flies can be thick during certain periods but don't bite.
Facilities include flush toilets, coin-operated showers at $1 for eight minutes, and a dump station. The shower water comes from a well and has a strong mineral smell. A playground and picnic area serve families, while the flat, easily navigable sites work for various RV sizes. Payment uses an envelope system for walk-in campers.
The campground sits close enough to town for supply runs and serves as a convenient base for exploring J.W. Wells State Park Campground and other Upper Peninsula destinations. Highway noise affects some sites, but the lakefront location compensates for most visitors.
Description
Kleinke Park is located 13 miles north of Menominee on M35.
If you want a gorgeous view of the Bay this is the park for you. Swim in the Bay (no life guard on duty) and lay on the nice sandy beach. There is a carry on boat launch.
Camping can be on daily or seasonal sites. All sites are 50 amp service. A service building, sinks, flush toilets, and showers, and a dump station are on site.
Ice and Fire wood are normally available in park. A play ground for the kids and picnic area with a pavilion are next to the campground.
Camping at Kleinke Park is on a first come first serve basis on the merit system for daily camping. How this is done: Find a vacant place you'd like to camp. Be sure there is no sign posted with "seasonal" and/or dates on the site post (if there is a sign on the site post, someone has that place reserved for the specific dates listed and you can not stay there.) It may say seasonal on the site post. If that is the case, and there is no one in the site spot, you can not have that site. That camp site is taken for a seasonal lease. They may have a motor home that they use which would leave the site vacant occasionally, however they still paid for that site for the lease duration. You can't camp there. Please find another site. Pay at the Pay pole (in the envelopes provided) for the number of nights you'll be staying. Enjoy your stay.
