The closest campground to the New River Gorge Bridge. Chestnut Creek Campground offers quiet primitive camping in the woods. We are a mere half a mile (0.5mi) from the New River Gorge Bridge! That's walking distance folks. Our hygienic facility has hot showers, lavatory stalls, hand washing sinks, and a wash basin located outside for dish washing and filling up water jugs. Firewood and Ice are available on site as well. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire pit. A general store and burrito bar are located literally around the corner; Both are within walking distance. Hiking and Climbing trail-heads (Fern Buttress, Endless Wall, Beauty Mountain; to name a few) are just down the way and access to the river is a stone's throw away (our drive is just across from Fayette Station Rd). If you're wanting to venture further to more local restaurants/shops; we are only a 5 minute drive from downtown Fayetteville. We are a pet friendly establishment for those with dogs who love to travel as much as you do. We keep quiet hours from 11pm-7am (starts @ midnight on weekends). Mainly we accommodate rustic tent camping, however; some sites are able to accommodate pop-up campers and trailers up to 20ft (we do not have hookups/electric). We strive to make your campsite set-up a breeze with access to city water, sewage, and electric hook-ups for the ideal camping experience. Spots are large enough to accompany two trucks, along with their trailers and campers. 

Additional parking is also available for larger groups.

5 acres of hilltop fields dotted with trees, bath house, fire rings and other on-site amenities. Pet-friendly, but you're responsible for care and clean-up. Kids under 18 are free. Only minutes from Beckley/Tamarack or Fayetteville, officially one of the coolest small towns in America.

Our RV accommodations include both pull-through and back-in spaces, electric, water, and sewer hook-ups. We also provide a bath house, laundry facilities, and 16 acres to stretch out and make use of picnic tables, fire pits, corn hole boards, and the on-site soda machine.

Our rustic studio cabin provides a quiet getaway on the hilltop, only steps away from our rafting departures. The cabin provides 2 queen beds, mini-frig, bathroom, sitting porch, and all linens.

New River Gorge National River preserves more than 70,000 acres of land and is home to some of West Virginia’s best whitewater flowing through it. In fact, the river running through it is one of North America’s oldest rivers.

The best camping near New River Gorge National River is anywhere you can find it. All campsites are primitive, first-come, first-served, and, best of all, free. Backcountry camping works the same way. You can park your van down by the river for free, as long as you’re self-sustaining. Amenities will be minimal at any of the nine campgrounds. Not all campgrounds are drive-in or RV accessible, so verify ahead of time. As long as you follow the park’s ordinances, you can camp here for up to 14 days. If you want more traditional lodging, there are a handful of cities nearby, but the main one is Beckley, WV.
