    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Campgrounds near French Creek, West Virginia range from developed state parks to private camping areas with varying amenities. The region includes established options like Stonewall Resort State Park Campground, Holly River State Park Campground, and Bulltown Campground at Burnsville Lake. Accommodation types span from tent platforms and primitive sites to full-hookup RV spaces, with several locations also offering cabins and glamping options. Most campgrounds in the area feature water access, with many situated on or near lakes and rivers, making them popular destinations for fishing, boating, and water recreation activities.

Seasonal operation varies significantly throughout the area, with many campgrounds open from April through October or early November. "We called the day before we wanted a site. The host was very helpful and polite. We arrived late at night, but she gave perfect directions to our site," noted one camper about Broken Wheel Campground, which remains open year-round. Weather considerations should factor into planning, as spring rains can affect trail conditions and campsite drainage. Cell service is notably limited or absent in some areas, particularly at Holly River State Park, where visitors report zero coverage for major carriers. Many campgrounds require reservations, especially during summer weekends and holidays when waterfront sites fill quickly.

The campground experience varies significantly across the region. Stonewall Resort State Park offers higher-end facilities with access to resort amenities including restaurants, golf, and boat rentals, though some campers note the pricing reflects these additional features. Holly River State Park provides a more natural experience with its lush forest setting and hiking trails leading to waterfalls. A visitor described it as having "breathtaking beauty that will leave you speechless." Some campgrounds feature more secluded sites backing up to mountains or forests, while others offer waterfront locations. Bathroom facilities range from basic vault toilets to clean shower houses that are regularly maintained, with most developed campgrounds providing electrical hookups and water access. Wildlife sightings, including deer and turkey, add to the camping experience in this mountainous region.

River Run Campground — North Bend State Park

Muddy, bath house a little dirty during a busy week

It rained a lot (not the park's fault) so it was pretty muddy the whole time I was there. I switched from site 7 (next to the bathhouse) to site 8 midway through, and both were fine and relatively quiet. It was busy and the bathhouse was kind of gross, but I guess that comes with the territory.

      Seneca State Forest

A quiet and peaceful little campground amongst the tall trees

What a delight to rest here for two nights! The park is small (10 campsites, I think) and blanketed by a lovely green canopy. Amenities are few, but the nearby showers are clean, with hot water and electricity, and fresh water is available on site by a hand pumped cistern. The office and maintenance headquarters are also nearby, and the folks in the office are friendly and welcoming. I’ll visit here again!

Dispersed Camping off Forest Road 227

one of the best sites i’ve ever been to

From what i can tell there is about 14 sites along about a 7-8 mile gravel road (some parts are rougher than other) each one different in size and shape. Some with astonishing nearly 360 views of the mountain ranges. Some small enough for 1-3 tent setups. This place is too cool, don’t ruin it with litter please. I have Verizon and was pleasantly surprised to see that from what i can tell sites 1-2 I was able to get a bar or two.

Bee Run Campground — Sutton Lake

Quiet quick stop off the highway

We picked this spot because we were trying to make some miles on our way South and it was conveniently close to the highway. Only about 5 minutes off the freeway exit, it was extremely peaceful and quiet. We went to the camping loop a little further up the road rather the more RV oriented area closer to the highway. There were 12 small pull-through spots, suitable for trailers or RVs up to about 30 ft. No facilities other than pit toilets and a single water spigot. First come first served reservations by scanning a QR code on the picnic table at your site. There was a campground host trailer there, but we never saw the host themselves. Only one other camper when we were there. We didn't have time to explore the area much, but it is a national recreation area with a lake and the elk River nearby. There was a sign for a trail leading right out from the campground, we walked it and it quickly disappeared into a network of Little Jeep roads that might have been fun to explore.

      Brooklyn Heights Riverfront Campground

      Peaceful and spacious

Stayed with friends at RV6. Non electric spot but huge with a nice fireplace and benches. No picnic table but great views of the river and the peaceful sounds of flowing water. Only toilet facility is an outside port-o-potty but they have spray, tp, hand sanitizer and seems well kept.

      Holly River State Park Campground

Don’t take the short trip in

Don’t follow the shortest trip using GPS it’ll take you on an old goat path to get here. But back to the campground it’s a really good location. Very very rural out in the middle of nowhere campsites are spaced. Adequately with plenty of shade several small playgrounds in each loop for the kids very quiet family oriented place. This place is so far out in the middle of nowhere they have to pipe the sunshine in.

      Camp Creek State Park Campground

      Nice and quiet campground

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Camp Creek State Park Campground. We had an electric only site along the creek, but they have sites with electric and water and sites with full hookup. It was level and we liked hearing the small creek flowing. We found several good places to hike with access in the campground and two nice waterfalls. The campground was not accessible the Camp Creek Road turnoff from I-77 because the exit was closed coming from the south for roadwork. Therefore, we had to get off near Princeton and the road was quite curvy and slow going for about 15 miles. Going back south was no problem getting on I-77. Hopefully the road work will be completed soon. We enjoyed enough that we would go back again, especially as a stop over on a longer trip.
