Best Campgrounds near La Grande, WA

Found this spot listed on Dyrt, and it did not disappoint. Went mid-June, and there was still snow on the ground and I woke up to low 30 temps and a winter mix falling from the sky. The water was crystal clear, and the site was right on the water with a little boat push off or if you wanted to walk in and swim. I went during the week and left out Saturday morning and passed about 7 trucks heading up to the site. It looks like it would be a very popular place on the weekends. It will require a 4x4, especially after rains, as it's a climb the entire way up over some decent rock gardens. If going up right after the winter bring a chain saw with you as the parks department cleared some previously, I still had to cut 2 more trees that had fallen across the road. All and all it was a beautiful site but be prepared since its a small site it may be full and the hill climb might be for nothing.

We stayed 3 nights at Toutle River RV Resort now owned by RV Inn Style chain. Quiet and respectful campers with paroling friendly staff. I5 access is perfect, although road and train noise could be bothersome for some campers as the campground is nestled in between. The camp store and pool were open. The playground, disk golf and basketball hoops accessible but the pickle ball courts had been removed since we last visited. Sites range from open to treed with many of the pick nick tables needing refurbished. Full hookups with gravel pads for 70+$$ per night. WiFi isn’t free, must be purchased. We had spotty cell service with Verizon though we were directly off I5 corridor. The public restrooms were clean, but mostly under construction while we were camping. Many full timers w/park models and trailer/RV’s sprinkled throughout the park. All-in-all we will stay here again in the future and happy to do so.

Often our first or last trip of the year, due to its proximity to the greater Seattle area.  Most of the folks we meet are from western Washington.  Small sites with little privacy but very well kept for a heavily used park.  That is the waterfront loop, the tent loop is also quite nice and a bit more private but we have not stayed there.  My chief complaint is that there are no restrooms on the waterfront loop, the two closest being fully public and free to use.

Otherwise, if you can score a waterfront site, this campground earns the loyalty of everyone we meet there.

Absolutely beautiful campground in Washington state nestled into the woods between Randall and Morton on the Cowlitz River. 4 loops to choose from. 2 with electric and water, 2 geared to tent or dry trailer camping. Loop A & D have utilities for camping with the water Spicket and drains in each loop. Nice, clean bathrooms with showers in every loop. Boat ramp and dump station available for campers. Recreation fields and trails nicely groomed. Very attentive staff regularly driving around cleaning and checking on the campground. I would say the only drawback is that they don’t have sewer hook ups. We stayed Friday to Monday trying to be moderately careful filling our tanks and did just fine dumping tanks on our way out. We will definitely be back to this PNW Beauty.

So many options for camping/parking. There are fire rings everywhere you look, so I’m assuming this is packed and busy in the summer?

Oh! Lots of bugs everywhere so be warned 🫣 The spots near the woods have more trash around them.

You can hear the roaring river! We didn’t try going down there, but there are some hiking trails that might get you to the water.

There are several toilets around. No trash cans, pack out. Fairly close to the park.

This is an airstrip, the planes are quiet so you don’t really hear them coming in. But hurry up and get a show if you hear them for take off!! Pretty cool!!
