    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    A Plus RV Park

    Friendly Staff, Easy Highway Access

I have seen this place a million times living in the community nearby and never thought to check to see if they all tent campers. I was shocked to find out they do accommodate them so I passed through and checked out the grounds and wanted to let people know it exists!

There are two entries at the front of the property each easily accessed from the highway. Though they are gravel they are easy to navigate but do hold a little water in the rain. As you drive into the camp there are 4 main rows of camping, mostly in use by RVs however they do also accommodate tent campers. These sites can be picked up nightly or for more long term use so many people at this park have called this their home for a bit. Despite obvious signs of the long term dwellers, the grounds are clean and well maintained and don't look cluttered like some long term campgrounds will begin to look.

The site offers nice restrooms with showers, a bbq for general use, a rec room perfect for having your breakfast or dinner or perhaps a game of cards with friends and has connections for RVs up to 50 amp as well as a dump station.

For the tent camper sites are wide enough to be comfortable to move around and have scattered picnic tables. The tent camping sites are located on a grassy area next to the pond so they are not squished between big rigs and have a bit more privacy.

This site might not look as elaborate as some, but it more than makes up for the few things you do not have by its friendly staff and on site mechanic.

    TIPS:

    • Call in advance if looking for an RV site, they do have several spaces available but during certain times of the year they do fill up as they are centrally located to many things.

    • Check out the LBJ Grasslands which are nearby when visiting this location, a great get away for some outdoor activities.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Holiday Park Campground

Hard to Believe You’re Next to a Big City

When we got to Benbrook, we used the campground(CG) website instructions as we didn’t see any signage for the CG on US377 coming in from the east. We turned right onto Pearl Ranch Rd and followed it to the Holiday COE entrance about 2 miles straight down the road. Check in was easy and the guy who checked us in was very informative. We needed to fill our freshwater tank and he pointed out on the map the two dump stations with potable water. We proceeded to the dump station just inside the gate to find out there was not a potable water spigot just the usual rinse hose. We went back to the entrance and he informed us the park ranger had told him they are on well water and thus the water at the dump station was safe, even though there was a sign clearly stating it was not safe to drink. We were then told we could go to an empty camp site that had water hook-ups and fill up there, which we did. Not sure what we would have done if this had been a busy weekend with all of the water sites full. We then proceeded to pull through site 72 with 30/50 AMP. There was plenty of space for our 39’ fifth wheel and F-450 on the asphalt pad. The site had a covered cement patio with picnic table, and bbq/fire pit that we couldn't use due to a burn ban. Site 73 was the only other site in our little cul-de-sac. For the intent of this review, we toured the campground specifically looking for free standing water spigots, but didn't find any. The showers/restroom were old but in workable shape. If you want to stay where we did in sites 72-75 they were definitely electric only, contrary to what other reviews mentioned. There were water spigots at the sites but they had been capped off. Sites 76, 77,& 78 were also electric only and sat up on a hill with a slight lake view but are across the street from a neighborhood that backs up to the park. Sites 83- 93 had water and electric as well as some of the sites near the front of the park. We got 3 bars on Verizon and a whole bunch of OTA channels. We enjoyed the view of the lake and privacy at our site since we were the only ones there the whole time of our stay during the week.

    Traders Village RV Park

    Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

    The Vineyards Campground & Cabins

    Very nice

Our site had a concrete pad for our rv. Full hookups are very nice. While we were here nightly thunderstorms came in. The staff were on top of it as they drove around alerting everyone about the wind approaching. Clean laundry room and restrooms. We didn’t use the store due to corona fears and didn’t need to. Pet friendly. Quiet at night. I would absolutely stay here and recommend it to anyone. The only spring time issue is lake flooding will close it.

Guide to The Colony

RV camping options near The Colony, Texas extend beyond the immediate vicinity to neighboring cities like Sanger, Princeton, and Arlington. The area lies within the Cross Timbers ecological region, characterized by a mix of prairies and woodlands with elevations ranging from 500-700 feet. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F from June through September, making swimming pools and water access particularly valuable amenities during these months.

What to do

Explore nearby attractions: Treetops RV Resort in Arlington positions campers within easy reach of major entertainment venues. "Just down the road from the Cowboys Stadium... 25 minutes to downtown Dallas and 20 to Fort Worth. Beautiful tree filled park," notes one camper at Treetops RV Resort.

Visit local flea markets: Traders Village offers a unique camping experience combined with shopping opportunities. "One of the biggest flea markets around and it's 2 days of walking and shopping. Has water, power and sanitation too," shares a visitor to Traders Village who appreciates having "everything you need to live here on site."

Cool off in campground pools: During hot Texas summers, onsite swimming facilities provide welcome relief. At Waggin Tail Ranch RV Park, campers appreciate that the facility "has a pool with hot tub, and a small playground for the kids," though one reviewer points out that "none of the sites have any shade trees" which can be challenging during peak heat.

What campers like

Fenced RV sites: Waggin Tail Ranch RV Park offers a distinctive amenity that sets it apart from other parks in the region. "Nice sites most are fenced in with big yards. A few pull thru sites unfenced... so unique to have a fenced yard," explains a long-term camper who stayed for five months.

Laundry technology: Modern facility upgrades make extended stays more convenient. At Shady Creek RV Park, campers appreciate "the app that lets you pay so you don't need coins but also tells you how much time you have remaining or if there are machines available," highlighting technological conveniences not found at all parks.

Tree coverage: Mature trees provide valuable shade in the Texas heat. Visitors to Treetops RV Resort consistently mention this feature in reviews: "Lots of shade, and the trees were trimmed with plenty of room" and "Our spot was 171 and was very well shaded."

What you should know

Monthly rentals predominate: Some parks primarily serve long-term guests rather than overnight campers. At Destiny Dallas RV Resort, one visitor reported, "Tried to book a weekend, turns out they are a monthly only park," suggesting travelers should call ahead to confirm availability for shorter stays.

Facility variations: Amenities differ significantly between parks. While most offer full hookups, one reviewer at Plantation Place noted the surprising absence of certain facilities: "WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS. Quiet park with easy access to Dallas... never in all my years have I been to a park with no bathrooms or showers."

WiFi reliability varies: Internet access fluctuates across parks in the region. At Northlake Village RV Park, a guest reported: "It was disappointing to discover that the FREE WiFi didn't work," adding, "I have a sneaky suspicion that the WiFi service we were given to connect to is not the one that long term renters get to use."

Tips for camping with families

Proximity to urban activities: Family-friendly Good Shepherd RV Park & Storage offers clean facilities with reasonable access to metropolitan attractions. "Everything about this park is way above average. Wide gravel sites, wide enough to put out the mat and still park the truck next to that," notes a visitor who appreciated the well-maintained grounds.

Look for playground amenities: Several parks offer dedicated children's play areas. A Treetops RV Resort visitor highlighted "all of the amenities you would want in a park" including a "kids playground" among the facility's features.

Schedule for seasonal crowds: Summer reservation patterns affect availability. A family that stayed at Treetops RV Resort in winter mentioned, "We had the pleasure to stay there during a time to celebrate our friends life," suggesting off-season visits may offer more flexibility and space.

Tips from RVers

Level sites matter: RV sites near The Colony, Texas vary in grading and surface quality. A camper at Wagon Master RV Park and Alpaca Farm appreciated that their "pull through spot on gravel was level and clean," while another at Treetops noted, "our trailer was level but we felt like we were leaning back."

Consider pad composition: Surface materials affect setup and comfort. Lafon's RV Park features "gravel roads and pads," which one visitor described as adequate though "certainly not a vacation destination," focusing on functionality rather than aesthetics.

Check specific breed restrictions: Pet policies may include limitations beyond general "pet-friendly" designations. A potential guest at Destiny Dallas RV Resort warned: "Everything says 'Pet Friendly', however when we tried to book a spot for a month they said I couldn't bring my Great Dane puppy bc of the breed and insurance."
