Best Campgrounds near Nolanville, TX

Campgrounds near Nolanville, Texas range from developed facilities to lakeside recreation areas along Belton Lake and Stillhouse Hollow Lake. The region includes several Corps of Engineers (COE) managed campgrounds including Dana Peak, Live Oak Ridge, and Union Grove, which consistently receive high ratings for their spacious sites and lake access. Most campgrounds accommodate both tent and RV camping, with some locations like Union Grove and Cedar Ridge also offering cabin options. Military Park Fort Hood Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area provides additional camping opportunities approximately 10 miles north of Nolanville.

Road access to most campgrounds is well-maintained, though summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F from June through September, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons. "The weekly rate of $300 was very reasonable. Excellent access to Hamilton Pool, Reimers Ranch and Westcave Discovery Center," noted one visitor about nearby options. Many campgrounds require reservations, particularly during summer weekends and holidays when lakefront sites fill quickly. Water levels at both Belton Lake and Stillhouse Hollow Lake can fluctuate seasonally, affecting shoreline access at some campgrounds. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the area, with most campgrounds reporting 2-4 bars of LTE coverage.

Waterfront camping receives consistently positive reviews, with several campgrounds offering direct lake access for swimming and boating. Cedar Ridge Park features spacious sites with 50-amp electrical hookups, water connections, and fire rings, while Dana Peak provides multiple access types including boat-in, drive-in, and hike-in options. According to one camper, "Nice campsites, clean bathrooms, lake access for swimming/boating/paddling. I didn't get a single mosquito bite while camping here! Lots of shade with plenty of tree covering." Most developed campgrounds in the area include picnic tables, fire rings, and access to restroom facilities, though shower availability varies by location. Visitors frequently mention the cleanliness of facilities and the family-friendly atmosphere at Corps of Engineers campgrounds, which tend to enforce quiet hours and provide more regulated camping experiences than some of the more primitive options.

    North Crest RV Park

    Perfect Stay

North Crest RV Park was the perfect stay for us.  We work while we travel so having good Starlink is important so we tend to shy away from parks with a lot of trees.  The thing about North Crest is it is full of trees to provide shade over your rig to help cut down the heat but the sites are so large that there is plenty of room to stretch your cable out and get clear sky as well.  It was so nice sitting out under the trees in the shade on the 90 degree days we were there.

The pictures don't really this place justice as the amount of pavement AND lawn space is basically unheard of.  Emily and Ranger always driving around working on something to keep it very picked up with really nice landscaping.  You can really tell she wants to take care of the place.  That is so refreshing this day in age when you typically either get a park that doesn't care what it looks like or how level the spot is or some corporate place that just wants to cram in as many rigs as possible.  We will absolutely be back here and will likely make it more of a destination stay just because it is very unusual to see a park like this anymore.  The best part is that her prices are some of the best in the area too.  We cannot say enough good things and look forward to returning.

Quiet place outside of town. Has Gated entrance and exit. Gravel roads. Has spring that runs in park with adequate elevation to prevent floods. Favorite spots are 1-3. My go to place visiting the area.

Guide to Nolanville

Nolanville camping options include U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites with varying access types and reservation requirements. Stillhouse Hollow Lake elevations range from 622 to 849 feet above sea level, while Belton Lake sits at approximately 594 feet. Summer camping in this region requires preparation for nighttime temperature drops of 20-25°F from daytime highs.

What to do

Hiking and biking trails: Cedar Ridge Park features miles of scenic trails suitable for both hikers and mountain bikers. "This is a nice campground with many miles of mountain bike and hiking trails. The one downside is that the sites do not have decent sized trees so I expect this would not be a great place to stay in the middle of summer," notes Laura F. about Dana Peak.

Wildlife viewing: Mother Neff State Park offers excellent opportunities to observe local wildlife. "There is also an old Indian cave and wash pond. Nice and easily traveled hiking trails along with a nice pond area for evening wildlife viewing," writes Greg B. about Mother Neff State Park Campground.

Water recreation: Stillhouse Park provides multiple water activities in one location. "This campsite is perfect for all your needs. It has everything. Hiking, boating, biking, swimming, fishing. It is so perfect and the views are amazing," shares Sarah P. about Dana Peak.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Cedar Ridge Park offers generous camping spaces that provide privacy. "The campsites are located on small loops which limits the traffic past the individual camp sites. Many people, but spread out so didn't feel crowed," reports Michael C. about Cedar Ridge.

Clean facilities: Union Grove maintains well-kept bathroom facilities. "We also brought some shade cloth to attach to the picnic table. After a long hot day it was great to use there huge showers to clean up. They were always clean, and very roomy," mentions Sheila C. about Dana Peak.

Lakefront camping: Direct water access makes Union Grove a popular choice. "All of the campsites are directly on the water. The lake is beautiful and there are usually very few people there. The people working there are all great," states Marci W. about Dana Peak.

What you should know

Seasonal closures: Several campgrounds have limited operating periods. "I haven't stayed here yet but I wanted to make a review about their open season. They have it listed on their website, but they are only open from March 2nd to September 30th for the year of 2022," advises Joel K. about Dana Peak.

Limited shade: Some campsites lack sufficient tree cover. "Not many actual camp sites and every site is sunny," warns Deb about Dana Peak.

Wind exposure: Waterfront sites can experience strong winds. "This is a gorgeous place to camp. We did tent camping this pass week. Our camp site was right by the water an absolutely gorgeous view to wake up to. The only draw back was the winds, they were so strong they shattered our tent poles," cautions Janese W. about Dana Peak.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Live Oak Ridge offers dedicated play areas for children. "A better-than-typical playground is set in a great interior place for all to enjoy," notes Cheryl D. about Live Oak Ridge.

Wildlife encounters: Schedule early morning or evening wildlife viewing times. "We saw lots of deer and birds," shares Stephanie A. about Cedar Ridge.

Swimming options: Belton Lake Military Fort Hood offers supervised swimming areas during peak season. "During summer break we appreciated the lifeguards," mentions Alexandra F. about Military Park Fort Hood Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for shade: Choose interior sites for better tree coverage. "If you camp on the hill areas there is plenty of shade. But if you camp close to the water shade is sparse. Trees are planted but are not tall enough to produce shade," explains Deb about Military Park Fort Hood Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area.

Hookup information: Many campsites near Nolanville offer partial hookups. "Has 30 & 50 amp hookups with water does not have sewer hookups at sites but does have dump station close by," notes Cody D. about Cedar Ridge.

Leveling requirements: Most concrete pads require minimal leveling. "All the pads are concrete and are for the most part level (2x6 under tires or less). Sites are pretty good size and come with a picnic table and overhead cover for it," reports Steven V. about Military Park Fort Hood Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area.
