Several RV parks surround Driftwood, Texas, offering convenient access to both Austin and the Texas Hill Country. Austin Lone Star RV Community provides 136 full-hookup sites with 50-amp service and is open year-round, featuring spacious pull-through sites that accommodate big rigs. Longhorn RV Resort in nearby Niederwald offers similar big-rig friendly sites with full hookups including 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. Black Canyon Wimberley Luxury RV Park provides a more upscale experience with generously sized sites and full hookups in a quieter setting. Oak Forest RV Park in Austin maintains year-round availability with 50-amp service and features multiple dog parks and common areas. "We were very surprised at the spacing here. You could fit another RV in between us and the next person. Plus, the trees and bushes make it feel more natural," noted one RV traveler about Austin Lone Star.

Most RV campgrounds in the Driftwood area provide sanitary dump stations, with many offering on-site propane service. Cell service varies by location, with stronger signals at parks closer to Austin and potentially weaker coverage in more rural settings near Canyon Lake. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially during peak seasons and weekends when Austin events draw large crowds. Pet policies differ between parks - most welcome pets with designated dog areas, though Summit Vacation Resort notably prohibits pets. RV sites typically feature level concrete or gravel pads, though some parks have reported unlevel sites requiring additional blocking. Highway noise can be noticeable at parks situated near I-35, while those nestled deeper in Hill Country provide quieter surroundings. Laundry facilities are common amenities, with several parks now offering card-operated machines rather than coin-operated ones.

      Inks Lake State Park Campground

Great getaway in Texas Hill Country - May 2018

Catching up on my reviews…Inks Lake SP is a superb park about 40 minutes from Austin in the Texas Hill Country.  Great lake with a large no wake zone in one area that makes it very family friendly and paddler friendly.  There are sites away from the NWZ that allow you to ski/tube right from your campsite.  Great choice of flat, easy access spots.  Tent-only spots with only water are available as-well.   Decent hiking and easy biking around the park is available.  The area around Devil's Hole is great for floating about and jumping from the rocks.  Just wish that folks would clean up after themselves better.  Great camp store with lots of products.  Lake was lowered in 2019 to update the docks and boat ramps (very nice now), lake is back to normal seasonal levels.  ILSP is close to Austin, so it stays busy during the season, so reserve well ahead of time.  No Wifi at the campsites, but decent mobile reception (ATT).  30/50 amp and water at most sites.  Fire ring and table on concrete pads at all sites.  Tables are not covered, however.  I've been told that there is Wifi available at the camp store, but I cannot personally verify that.

      Cedar Breaks Park

      Beautiful big sites

The sites are large which means you aren't right on top of your neighbors. Lots of shade. Each site has its own shelter with picnic table, grill and fire pit. Electric and water but no sewer. The sites along the outside of the loop have lake views and are level. The sites along the inside are scary unlevel! Some of the big rigs were backed in and jacked up 4 feet or so in front. Saw a lady break her ankle stepping out of her camper. Be prepared to level your camper! I suggest odd numbers 19-35 and even numbers 36-42 as the most level sites with the best lake views.

The park has hiking trails, boating and swimming access, but none of these are accessed right at the camp area.

Restrooms are very basic with no hot water. They were clean but a little creepy for showers. I used the toilets there during the day and my camper shower and toilet at night.

      Jellystone Park™ Austin North

      Dream campground

Amazing resort. Great monthly rate. They go above and beyond with their amenities providing an indoor play room, full kitchen, business center, etc. Very family friendly resort with plenty of activities planned. Lots of full time families staying here long term which makes for a fun time. The one downside was that we didn’t get the sites that we had put a deposit down for. There seems to be a lot of turnover in the office so when we checked in it wasn’t the same lady who had helped us pick out our sites and reserve them. We travel with my parents and always try to stay next to them but they were unwilling to accommodate that even though they originally told us they would. All in all I do recommend this park for the amazing ambiance and amenities.

Hill Country RV Resort & Cottage Rentals

Nice Park with little room between sites

The park it’s self is nice and clean.  Staff for the most part is friendly and nice.  The pool is a hopping place over summer break and on the weekends when it’s warm.  RV sites are tight in the daily/weekly sites and parking your 40+ foot rig and tow vehicle in the spot are probably not happening.  They do have over flow parking and depending on your site it could be a good walk.

They are pet friendly and have several dog parks and potty areas through out the park.  The laundry room is like no other I’ve ever been too.  All machines operate via debit/credit cards, no more quarters!!

Over all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this park for monthly stays or in one of their top tier sites for daily/weekly stays.

      Sunset RV Park

      Peace in Hill Country

I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as a Basecamp — grounds that offer a comfortable home base that you’re happy to return to after a day of exploring the surrounding area. Ratings for this category are based on: Value to cost: 5 Overall grounds: 4 Utility of sites (hookups, layout, accessibility): 4 Local Attraction Proximity: 4 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 5 Amenities: 4 Customer Service: 5 Cleanliness: 4

A really lovely spot in Dripping Springs, Sunset RV Park is a small park in Hill Country outside Austin (this is not the one near Lake Travis). It’s clear that this is a destination spot for snowbirds to the area as most everyone was set-up for a long-term stay and we saw very few folks come and go during our one-week stay. The park is very quiet with close attention paid to COVID precautions (this is the first park we encountered that was 100% contact free check in).

The park is built somewhat into a hill, so some of the turns are a little tricky and our spot was a bit uneven. The space itself was a very wide asphalt driveway with a picnic table and metal fire ring below a stone wall, perhaps a bit close to our neighbors as I wasn’t totally certain it was definitely ours to use.

The amenities are pretty basic- clean laundry and bathrooms and a good enough wifi signal to allow us to use the internet easily. There’s also propane available on site. I enjoyed the layout of the grounds and each site was afforded some privacy thanks to the set-up and tiered spaces. The weekly rate of $300 was very reasonable.

Excellent access to Hamilton Pool (make reservations!), Reimers Ranch and Westcave Discovery Center. Also about 30 minutes to most of Austin including SoCo, McKinney Falls SP and 6th Street.

Reservations were made by phone with a very friendly woman and, as I mentioned, check in was contactless, so we really didn’t encounter anyone else aside from a friendly wave from folks maintaining the grounds in golf carts. The place is a nice find outside Austin and very close by to family for us, so we’re happy to have found it and will return!

      Summit Vacation Resort

      Texas Camping at its finest

We loved the quiet and peace of this RV Resort nestled in Texas Hill Country.

The Park: they have a large pool area with cafe and snacks. The property is large and spaces are spread out through out the park. The big draw is the Guadalupe River, Canyon Lake, and the woods and hills.

They have hot shoes, bath houses, laundry.

The sites: Gravel and mostly level, very few sites were unlevel. You’re surrounded by hills so it is nice and quiet. They are full hook up sites. Each site had a fire ring and picnic table. Small deer herds would move through the park each evening. Many of the campers feed them corn and they know the sounds and come running out of the hills.

The campground is near grocery and hardware stores. Within an hour are several bigger towns with more stores.

Cellular: T-Mobile was decent but not great. They do have Campground WiFi that worked faster.

Canyon Lake Military - Randolph AFB

We love it here. Not for everyone.

We started with day passes, then graduated to renting out the loft cabins, then tried tent camping, and eventually and recently parked our travel trailer in the reservable RV spaces. All in the same vicinity. Made great memories at each stay.

Pro’s: Best rate in town for military (active, retired, $ disabled). Water is beautiful. Fishing can be fantastic. Lots of water activities available for rent or bring your own. Pet friendly, Great for families, most people are very respectful and wonderful to talk to. Good food and stores nearby. Lots of wildlife. Quiet. Close to town and short drive from San Antonio.

Cons: Hard to get ahold of staff to make reservations. Market is extremely expensive and staff isn’t very friendly. Lost and lots of fire ants.

We recommend it to all of our friends and family and bring them often. We love staying in the loft cabins. Some are pet friendly. We have stayed in the mobile homes on the other side of the lake once but that was not a great experience as our things were stolen off our table and covered patio (on Veterans Day) and they were only left unattended for 15 min or less. The mobile home wasn’t very nice but functional at least.

They do not have facilities but they do have a shop with all the amenities ie: firewood, beverages, toiletries and food items. Guide to Driftwood

RV campgrounds near Driftwood, Texas offer convenient access to the rocky limestone terrain of the Texas Hill Country at an elevation around 1,200 feet. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 95°F while winter nights can drop below freezing, creating diverse camping conditions throughout the year. Most camping facilities remain open year-round despite seasonal weather variations.

    What to do

River activities: 15-minute drive from Rio Guadalupe Resort & RV Park to tubing opportunities. "They rent tubes, rafts and kayaks with shuttle service. Nice clean big pool. Has 58 full hookup sites also rental cabins. Staff is very nice and helpful," shares Mike B.

Sunset views: Longhorn RV Resort offers waterfront sites with unobstructed sunset views. "Our spot, #97, was right on the water and it was an amazing spot to watch the sunset!" reports Marie D.

Day trips to Austin: 15-minute drive to city activities from Austin Lone Star RV Community. "This is the third campground we've stayed at, and it's conveniently located just 15 minutes from the city, with grocery stores and other essential shops nearby," notes Tijana & Andrew C.

    What campers like

Spacious sites: Campers appreciate the generous spacing between RVs at River Forest Haven. "Super cool to get tucked into the woods. Some of the spots are secluded and others aren't," explains Ryan G., adding "Down side is it isn't assigned sites, so if your self contained like my van we went out for the day and came back to someone set up in our spot."

River access: Rio Guadalupe Resort offers direct water access. "The best part was the river access. It was beautiful! The river access is overlooking a canyon wall, with ducks and deer roaming and a huge yard of grass all the way down to the waters edge. White lights illuminate it at night," shares Becky B.

Location convenience: Campers praise the quick access to Austin attractions from several RV parks. "This campground is so close to downtown! We were there in about 10 or 15 minutes. Our spot is gravel and level," mentions Deanna W. from Austin Lone Star RV Community.

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Summit Vacation Resort requires advanced planning and prohibits pets. "We've stayed here 3 times now and each experience has been amazing! It's quiet, lots of things for the kids to do like swimming, miniature golf, basketball, tennis, etc," notes Eli D.

Road noise: Some parks near highways experience traffic sounds. "It's located along the freeway, so there is some road noise. However, at night it was pretty quiet," explains Marnie G.

Ground conditions: Site leveling can be challenging. "Spots are gravel (a little unlevel due to the slight hills) but perfectly spaced with full hook up," reports Joana A.

Wi-Fi access: Internet connectivity varies significantly between parks. "The only downside I found was the septic connection at my spot is at the same height as my RV connection - no matter what I do, I can't get it to have a slope," notes Lightful Mind R.

    Tips for camping with families

Choose parks with playgrounds: Oak Forest RV Park offers multiple family-friendly spaces. "There's multiple dog parks, hammock areas, common areas with fire pits and grills, gardens for the community, and an incredible coffee truck over by the welcome office," mentions Sam M.

River safety considerations: Shallow water areas work best for younger children. "It was pretty quiet except for the cars on the nearby road. There were plenty of sites though some were better than others. Sites on the River seem best," shares Taylor from River Forest Haven.

Pack extra supplies: Limited on-site shopping means bringing essentials. "My little dog and I just had a memorable camping trip near Austin, TX! The space was spacious, the nature was beautiful, and most importantly, my dog was free to run around," reports Victor S.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection priorities: Pecan Grove RV Park offers urban camping in Austin. "The park itself has lovely trees throughout and it's nice to walk around and talk to fellow campers that have been there longer. There are no picnic tables, fire rings or wifi... but when in a city like Austin, go out and do things," advises Jenifer K.

Electrical service: Most RV campgrounds near Driftwood provide 50-amp electrical service. "Very nice campground, very secure, codes used to enter gate, pool, showers/restrooms & 24hour laundry room," writes Jeannine D.

Water management: Pack additional water hoses if needed. "The sites were confusing as stated back in but connections were on opposite side of our pop up camper making stretching hoses a hassle," explains Kelly T.

Temperature management: Summer heat requires planning. "Very hot, early July. Have noticed empty sites at all parks. Gas prices must be effecting travel??" observes Stephen D.
