    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Traders Village RV Park

    Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

    Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

    Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

Guide to Allen

RV camping near Allen, Texas typically consists of well-maintained parks with full hookups within 30 miles of the city. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F from June through September, with limited rainfall. Most parks in this region remain open year-round, with concrete or gravel sites accommodating vehicles up to 45 feet in length, and electrical service ranging from 30 to 50 amps.

What to do

Lake activities at Lavon Lake: Patriot RV Park provides easy access to Lavon Lake recreation areas. "This place is close to anywhere you need to go. The price is the best in the area and they give free high speed internet," notes Sonny R. Boat ramps are accessible nearby for fishing and water activities.

Visit local farmers markets: Several seasonal markets operate within 15 miles of Allen area RV parks. "We were in the top part of the campground and had no issues with it being real wet. We were able to easily travel to local attractions," shares Bobbie S., who stayed at Patriot RV Park for two months.

CrossFit workouts: Shady Creek RV Park offers proximity to fitness options. "CrossFit is walking distance (separate business). The pool is nice. You're right next to Frisco, Prosper, Little Elm, Savannah, and Denton," explains Rafael A., highlighting the convenient location for active campers.

What campers like

Clean facilities: "The laundry room is nice, I really like the app that lets you pay so you don't need coins but also tells you how much time you have remaining or if there are machines available," reports Rafael A. about Shady Creek RV Park. Laundry costs typically run $1.50-$2.00 per wash/dry cycle.

Quiet atmosphere: Many parks maintain peaceful environments despite proximity to urban areas. "Stayed for a couple days, very well maintained property. The staff is incredible and very nice! Lots of long timers, makes for a quieter vibe," explains Brady J. about Sugar Hill RV Resort.

Pet amenities: "They have a saltwater pool, dog park, laundry room, shower/bathrooms, trees/landscaping and access to a boat ramp," notes Bobbie S. about Patriot RV Park. Most Allen-area campgrounds welcome pets with standard leash requirements, though specific dog breeds may face restrictions.

What you should know

Seasonal water concerns: During heavy rain periods, some parks experience drainage issues. "We have heard that the lower area does have pooling of water with heavy rain. It does go away quickly, but should be aware of this if you have lots of outside things or a pet," cautions Bobbie S. about parts of Patriot RV Park.

Reservation responsiveness varies: Communication challenges can occur when booking. "Tried calling several times(during business hours) and wrote several times, never got back to me," reports Ryan A. about Sugar Hill RV Resort, suggesting reservations be made well in advance during peak seasons.

Site leveling challenges: Dove Hill RV Park and others may require significant leveling equipment. "It appeared that the campground doesn't have any sites that approach level. A few of the campers had to have their back wheels off the ground in order to get level!" warns Roy O., highlighting potential setup difficulties.

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: "We did not make it to the pool, the patio or to the dog park. All looked great from a distance," mentions Pedro C. about Shady Creek RV Park, which provides family-friendly swimming options during summer months. Most pools operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with varying hours.

Watch for weather impacts: "We traveled from West Texas, stayed 4 nights, had rain almost every day. The park is well laid out, small clean well maintained yards. The paved road was beginning to break up from all the rain with pot holes and new ones beginning to pop up," reports Pedro C. after a family reunion at Shady Creek.

Limited amenities at some parks: Plantation Place lacks certain facilities families often require. "WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS. Quiet park with easy access to Dallas. Nice dog walking area and dog park. Full hookups," cautions Jackie E., suggesting families verify amenities before booking.

Tips from RVers

Cellular connectivity: "Verizon, full bars of service!" notes Pedro C. about Shady Creek RV Park. Most parks closer to Allen maintain strong cellular signals, though WiFi quality varies significantly between locations.

Extended-stay considerations: "We needed to do some repairs to our truck after a hell storm, we need to be around the Dallas, Garland, McKinney area, and this is a perfect location, quiet, but yet close to everything we needed," shares Mic R. about Lafon's RV Park. Monthly rates typically run $550-650 plus electricity for long-term stays.

Maintenance standards: "Everything about this park is way above average. Wide gravel sites, wide enough to put out the mat and still park the truck next to that," reports Dick M. about Good Shepherd RV Park, which maintains $1.50 laundry rates and consistently clean facilities for guests.
