Several RV parks surround Wilkes-Barre with full-service hookups for motorhome travelers. Frances Slocum State Park Campground features electric sites with fifty-amp and thirty-amp service, along with water hookups and a sanitary dump station. The park operates from April through October with spacious pull-through RV pads. Moyers Grove Campground provides big-rig friendly sites with fifty-amp electric, water, and sewer connections arranged along a creek. Stonybrook RV Resort accommodates larger rigs with full hookup sites including electric, water, and sewer. "Nice level sites easy to back in rv and set up," noted one camper about Frances Slocum.

Driving to some parks requires navigating significant elevation changes. Clayton Park RV Escape, located near Lake Ariel, remains open from May through mid-October with full hookup sites, while Hickory Run State Park presents challenging terrain for larger motorhomes. Cell service varies significantly throughout the region's campgrounds, with several parks reporting limited or no coverage in valley locations. Most parks allow pets but restrict them to designated areas. Propane refill stations are scarce within the immediate Wilkes-Barre area, so travelers should arrive with adequate supplies. During peak summer and fall foliage seasons, advance reservations become essential as many parks fill quickly, particularly on weekends and holidays.

      Stony MT Family Campground

      We’d do it again!

Not cheap but we’ll within area norms. This camp has many long term campers that are friendly and helpful and some have children with them. Some full-time rigs are weekend campers. Some weekend events are planned. Most sites have full hookups with 50 amp electric only so if needed have an adapter (available at the small camp store. We had an unplanned extension on our visit that included a weekend where a group was scheduled and the park was booked including our site. The friendly staff worked to ensure a temporary site for us for the weekend.

      Mountain Vista Campground

      Mt Vista Campground

Beautiful Campground. Clean. Gravel sites. Fire ring and picnic table. All sites have ample room. Lots of pull through for bigger rigs. Wooded. Large dog park. Love the Campground except our site is near a fairly busy road which takes away from that beautiful tranquility. They have camouflaged it as best they could. Friendly staff. Lots to do. Pool, tennis. Sauna, pond for fishing ( catch & release ). Would definitely recommend.

      Tobyhanna State Park Campground

      Great family campground

This place only gets 4 stars because I thought we were going to have water and electric hook ups. They only have 2 kinds of sites, modern electric (only electric) and primitive. They have a potable water station and dump station and very few sites with electric hook up. They also have specific pet friendly sites. We had a wonderful time here. We went for Father’s Day weekend in June. The lake is gorgeous! Beachfront swimming and boat rentals, great biking and hiking trails. Sites are mostly separated by trees but are still close. Bath houses were very clean and they have a dish washing sink as well. Beach is within walking and biking distance. Two cons- Bath house at the beach is 50 cents for a 2-minute shower, so we just went back to the campground bath house to clean up. The playground near sites 53-56 is a little underwhelming. Otherwise was a great stay! We already booked another stay in September this year!

      Stonybrook RV Resort

      This is a great place!

We spent four nights at Stonybrook RV Resort in Lehighton, PA, for a quiet wedding anniversary getaway— and so glad we did. We paid$150 per night total for a FHU 50 Amp Premium Back-in site (#F20). This campground makes a great home-base while hanging out in the Pocono Mountains.

      THINGS I LIKED:

      • This place is in super condition— everything works as it’s supposed to and is clean and maintained
      • The concrete pad/patio with Breeo smokeless fire pit, Adirondack chairs, and metal patio table and chairs made a great setup
      • Our site(F20) is level and beautiful— spacious and beautifully landscaped
      • We interacted with 5 members of their staff and all were welcoming and friendly to talk with
      • There’s a heated pool behind the office/store so it’s not noisy for campers at their sites

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

      • Just one thing— the entrance made for a challenging entry up a steep grade, narrow roadway, and sharp turn in. I made it without problems, but it wasn’t easy in a 45’ motorhome towing a Jeep. This may be nitpicky— and I’m not complaining about it— just letting you know to expect it on arrival.

      WOULD WE COME BACK?

      • Absolutely, this is a great campground(I’ve already recommended it to my Newmar Kountry Klub chapter president as a possible site for a future rally).

The Pines Campground — Promised Land State Park

Quiet, just remote enough, a Great Lake, and nice camp hosts

I stayed for three nights in a pull through trailer site with 50 AMP and 30 AMP electric. Easy to get in and out of, nice and shady, big spaces so you were not on top of one another, and nice and quiet. Clean and modern bath house, water close by, and great camp hosts. Definitely recommend it.

Lower Lake Campground Northwoods Area — Promised Land State Park

      Northwoods Campground

Big sites with 30 amp service available for RVs and trailers. Each site has a large picnic table and a fire ring with an adjustable grate. The pull-through sites don’t offer much in the way of privacy, but that’s the trade off for convenience. There are two potable water spigots in the campground. The bathhouse offers warm showers, 2 dishwashing sinks, and a coin-operated washer and dryer. The facilities are kept very clean. On the weekends it can get pretty crowded, so it tends to be louder at night then, but the camp hosts and the rangers do a good job of enforcing quiet hours. Access points to several trails are very near the campground. As with all PA state parks, alcohol is prohibited. The park doesn’t have a camp store, however, there is a small general store on Route 390 (The Lake Store) just north of the park that would have any essentials you may have forgotten, as well as ice for your cooler.

      Montrose Campground

Family and pet friendly year-around campground

We tried this campground a few times for short stays and ended up going seasonal last year and will do the same this year. It is a little off the beaten path but is great for families (plenty of activities for kids) and pets (our dog LOVES it there). They have a pool, fishing pond, hiking trails, mini golf, playground, large grassy areas for kids to play, and horseshoe pits. There is a store (stocked with grocery staples/snacks but also TONS of RV specific supplies/parts), laundry and showers (a new and improved bath house is currently being built). There are planned activities almost every weekend during the 'season' but they are open all year with some winter sites available. They have all sites available from tent right up to 50 amp full hook-ups. I can't wait for the new season to begin in April!

Delaware Water Gap / Pocono Mountain KOA

      Family friendly, super kind staff

We have stayed at a few KOAs and we really liked this one. The staff were kind and so helpful. This is right by Shawnee, several water sports places and near some great hikes. Campground has some nice shaded 30amp back in spots with full hookups. We stayed in 47 which backs up to a wooded area & had good cover. Although the map shows site 47 as electric & water only it's actually full hookups (they just haven't updated the map yet). Some of the pull through sites in the center are not shaded at all, as a heads up. Friends stayed in a deluxe cabin, which was beautiful & looked brand new inside. The camp store has everything you might need. Wi-Fi is free and signal OK. The pool is well maintained and there's a ton of space for outdoor activities like volleyball, mini golf & more. We did a buddy site and stayed next to friends as well for a small extra fee per site. We would stay here again!

Frances Slocum State Park Campground provides electric hookups with both 50-amp and 30-amp service, featuring sites that back up to water views. The campground operates seasonally from mid-April through mid-October. Moyers Grove Campground offers full-hookup RV sites with 50-amp service, though the park layout shows varying site spaciousness. Mountain terrain shapes the camping experience throughout northeastern Pennsylvania, requiring preparation for elevation changes on approach roads. Several campgrounds feature electric-only sites that require self-contained water systems, while others offer complete water and sewer connections. Cell service varies significantly by location and provider; Ricketts Glen visitors report no reception even with signal boosters. Most RV parks maintain at least one dump station, though availability of on-site propane is limited. Pet-friendly policies exist at all major locations including Hickory Run State Park, though designated dog areas may restrict site selection. Fall foliage season attracts considerable traffic to the area's campgrounds, making advance reservations essential from September through mid-October. Proximity to groceries and supplies varies substantially, with some locations requiring 30-minute drives to the nearest store.
