    Williamsport South-Nittany Mountain KOA

    Great Four Day Camp

We spent four nights here (May 13-17, 2022). This is a nice, well run, family oriented CG (a lot of kids on the weekend) with reasonably level pull through and back-in gravel sites (quite a few long term campers).

There are many activities available: swimming pool, recreation hall, fishing pond, biking, hiking/walking, mini golf, jumping pillow, playground, basketball, shuffleboard and more.

The office store is nice (ice cream and pizza made to order!). The laundry room was clean. We did not make use of the bathrooms or showers.

Golf carts are available for rent so there was a lot of traffic(some towing portable waste tanks).

Pay attention to the Theme Weekend Events– they will be crowded and there could be an additional fee. We were charged$20 for the Care Camp Weekend.

The cable TV and WiFi were good as was cell phone reception.

    We would stay here again.

    Stony MT Family Campground

    We’d do it again!

Not cheap but we’ll within area norms. This camp has many long term campers that are friendly and helpful and some have children with them. Some full-time rigs are weekend campers. Some weekend events are planned. Most sites have full hookups with 50 amp electric only so if needed have an adapter (available at the small camp store. We had an unplanned extension on our visit that included a weekend where a group was scheduled and the park was booked including our site. The friendly staff worked to ensure a temporary site for us for the weekend.

    Pine Cradle Lake Family Campground

Great campground in PA northern tier

The owners do a fantastic job keeping the campground shipshape. Restrooms/showers are immaculate any time of day. Heated swimming pool and the splash pad for kiddies is spotless as well. Nice, pull-through on gravel pad withfull-hookups that can take large rigs. Lake is lovely for fishing/kayaks/canoes. Seasonal campers are tidy. Only a few tent sites with water & electricity tucked into woods. Larger pull-through sites don't get a lot of shade, but there are back-in sites for shorter campers in wooded sites and shaded lake front, as well. Campground store sells ice-cream & nachos and supplies. Campground is pretty quiet during the week, but fills up on weekends with guests using own (or renting) golf carts. Activities on weekends. The campground sits atop one of NEPA's "rolling hills" in quiet, rural farming area. Cell service is spotty. Local winery/cafe just down the road for tastings and lunch. Row boat, paddle boat rentals.

    Williamsport South-Nittany Mountain KOA

    Wooded campground

Very wooded campground. Gravel pad was narrow so the picnic table was within two feet of the trailer side. We had a pull through site that was uneven front to back so that our tongue jack was all the way down to get level enough. Side to side it was fine. The playground was excellent. The camp store was new looking and well stocked. The staff was friendly.

No breed restrictions for dogs. The dog park was good.

    Riverside Campground & Riverside Roadhouse

    Very Nice RV Park

Very clean and we'll managed campground. Sites are a little close in some areas, but are nice. WSE at leach sure. There are cute cabins and a tent area. Great restaurant on site with music on weekends with local bands or DJs. New Owners have worked hard to improve the park. There are no permanent sites, but they do have seasonal sites. Everything from pop ups to big rigs can be seen. Nice clean pool and rest rooms. Clean well equipped laundry. Park is close to hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and larger and small towns. Huge playground ajoins the Park. Staff is friendly and helpful.

    Stonybrook RV Resort

    This is a great place!

We spent four nights at Stonybrook RV Resort in Lehighton, PA, for a quiet wedding anniversary getaway— and so glad we did. We paid$150 per night total for a FHU 50 Amp Premium Back-in site (#F20). This campground makes a great home-base while hanging out in the Pocono Mountains.

    THINGS I LIKED:

    • This place is in super condition— everything works as it’s supposed to and is clean and maintained
    • The concrete pad/patio with Breeo smokeless fire pit, Adirondack chairs, and metal patio table and chairs made a great setup
    • Our site(F20) is level and beautiful— spacious and beautifully landscaped
    • We interacted with 5 members of their staff and all were welcoming and friendly to talk with
    • There’s a heated pool behind the office/store so it’s not noisy for campers at their sites

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

    • Just one thing— the entrance made for a challenging entry up a steep grade, narrow roadway, and sharp turn in. I made it without problems, but it wasn’t easy in a 45’ motorhome towing a Jeep. This may be nitpicky— and I’m not complaining about it— just letting you know to expect it on arrival.

    WOULD WE COME BACK?

    • Absolutely, this is a great campground(I’ve already recommended it to my Newmar Kountry Klub chapter president as a possible site for a future rally).

The Pines Campground — Promised Land State Park

Quiet, just remote enough, a Great Lake, and nice camp hosts

I stayed for three nights in a pull through trailer site with 50 AMP and 30 AMP electric. Easy to get in and out of, nice and shady, big spaces so you were not on top of one another, and nice and quiet. Clean and modern bath house, water close by, and great camp hosts. Definitely recommend it.

Lower Lake Campground Northwoods Area — Promised Land State Park

    Northwoods Campground

Big sites with 30 amp service available for RVs and trailers. Each site has a large picnic table and a fire ring with an adjustable grate. The pull-through sites don’t offer much in the way of privacy, but that’s the trade off for convenience. There are two potable water spigots in the campground. The bathhouse offers warm showers, 2 dishwashing sinks, and a coin-operated washer and dryer. The facilities are kept very clean. On the weekends it can get pretty crowded, so it tends to be louder at night then, but the camp hosts and the rangers do a good job of enforcing quiet hours. Access points to several trails are very near the campground. As with all PA state parks, alcohol is prohibited. The park doesn’t have a camp store, however, there is a small general store on Route 390 (The Lake Store) just north of the park that would have any essentials you may have forgotten, as well as ice for your cooler.

    Tobyhanna State Park Campground

    Great family campground

This place only gets 4 stars because I thought we were going to have water and electric hook ups. They only have 2 kinds of sites, modern electric (only electric) and primitive. They have a potable water station and dump station and very few sites with electric hook up. They also have specific pet friendly sites. We had a wonderful time here. We went for Father’s Day weekend in June. The lake is gorgeous! Beachfront swimming and boat rentals, great biking and hiking trails. Sites are mostly separated by trees but are still close. Bath houses were very clean and they have a dish washing sink as well. Beach is within walking and biking distance. Two cons- Bath house at the beach is 50 cents for a 2-minute shower, so we just went back to the campground bath house to clean up. The playground near sites 53-56 is a little underwhelming. Otherwise was a great stay! We already booked another stay in September this year!

Guide to Sweet Valley

Campgrounds near Sweet Valley, Pennsylvania sit within the northeast region of the state at elevations ranging from 1,000 to 1,800 feet. The area features a mix of deciduous forest and rolling hills surrounding several lakes and streams. Summer temperatures typically reach 75-85°F during day and drop to 55-65°F at night, with higher humidity levels from June through August.

What to do

Hiking at Ricketts Glen State Park Campground: The park features over 26 miles of hiking trails with varying difficulty levels. The Falls Trail System showcases 22 named waterfalls. "The hike is definitely not for the easily winded people, or anyone with bad knees, the hike down was pretty steep at some points but very well maintained! and the hike back up was again steep but maintained! and you got different falls to look at both ways, I believe there are around 17 waterfalls there?" according to a review from Ricketts Glen State Park Campground.

Fishing at Frances Slocum State Park: The park's 165-acre lake offers fishing opportunities for bass, panfish, and trout. Shoreline fishing is accessible, with several fishing piers available. "The park is nice and very clean. There is also plenty to do with a pool, hiking trails, fishing, and a nice lake with boat rental," notes one reviewer at Frances Slocum State Park Campground.

Adventure activities at Blue Mountain: During non-winter months, the resort transforms its ski slopes into mountain biking trails. "If you choose adventure this is the place for you, ride the ski lifts up to the top of the mountain then you get to bike down it, they have rental bikes available or bring your own. You can also Zip line or swing through the trees if you would rather," mentions a camper from Blue Mountain RV and Camping Resort.

What campers like

Lake views: Many campgrounds feature lakefront sites with direct water access. "We stayed in the large loop, which is a peninsula on Lake Jean. Many of the sites have lake views," shares a visitor to Ricketts Glen State Park.

Spacious sites at Lake Glory: The campground provides larger sites with ample separation between neighbors. "We stay at lake glory every year while visiting Knoebels. It's so much quieter than Knoebels campground and so much more room. We love the creek side sites! Kids can wade in the water to cool off while parents are chatting and cooking just few feet away," notes a reviewer at Lake Glory Campground.

Clean facilities at Stonybrook: The rv campgrounds in Sweet Valley and surrounding areas maintain well-kept bathrooms and showers. "The laundry area and shower rooms are beautiful and clean," writes a camper from Stonybrook RV Resort. Another notes, "This place has never come up in any of my searches for a campground but my wife was frantically trying to find a place to stay for Memorial Day weekend. They had one site left that we were lucky enough to grab and I'm glad we did."

What you should know

Seasonal restrictions: Several Sweet Valley area rv parks have limited operating seasons. Frances Slocum State Park Campground operates from "2nd Fri April to 3rd Sun October," while Lake Glory Campground runs from "April 15 to October 15."

Variable cell coverage: Mobile service can be unreliable at certain campgrounds. "There is no cell service or internet for AT&T users. (Verizon did have some service.)," explains a reviewer from Moyers Grove Campground.

Limited amenities at state parks: Pennsylvania state parks like Frances Slocum have basic facilities. "The bathhouse was clean but not adequate for 73 sites. The campground was about ¾ full and there was often a wait in the bathroom," notes a camper at Ricketts Glen State Park Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Water activities for kids: Several campgrounds offer swimming options besides lakes. "The pool was warm, clean and enjoyable. There's a nice playground and a GaGa pit. There's lots of space to walk your dog on leash but no dog park," shares a visitor to Stonybrook RV Resort.

Playground access: Check which rv campgrounds near Sweet Valley have updated play equipment. "The playground was really nice," says a reviewer from Splash Magic RV Resort, though others note that some parks need updates: "If I were them I'd add new stuff to playground and clean up the tent sites more," from a Lake Glory review.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Many campgrounds offer chances to see local wildlife. "We enjoyed our weekend stay at Moyer's Grove. The sites were a nice size and were well shaded. The campground was quiet and peaceful. We saw deer daily. There are 3 resident geese who wander around near the creek and lakes," notes a camper.

Tips from RVers

Terrain considerations: The topography around Sweet Valley requires careful driving planning. "Our site was nice and level side to side," shares an RVer at Stonybrook RV Resort.

Full hookup availability: RV sites with complete utilities are available at several campgrounds. "The sites were all FHU. There seem to be many semi-permanent residents but plenty of room for transients like us passing through," notes a reviewer from Indian Head Campground.

Winter camping options: While many campgrounds close seasonally, a few remain open year-round. "We stayed here during the winter January-February no activities going on. It does offer beautiful views especially covered in snow. Has a heated pool and playground, laundry facilities and a small game. Shower/bathrooms are the best I've ever seen," says a winter camper at Stonybrook RV Resort.
