Best RV Parks & Resorts near Orrstown, PA

Established RV parks near Orrstown provide a variety of amenities for travelers. Twin Bridge Campground offers electric hookups, water access, and sanitary dump stations on moderately sized sites accommodating both small and mid-sized rigs. Gettysburg Campground, located within 30 miles, features full hookup sites with 50-amp service and water connections on level pads suitable for larger motorhomes. Western Village RV Park in Carlisle maintains year-round operations with big-rig friendly pull-through sites equipped with 50-amp electrical hookups, water, and sewer connections. Many RV sites throughout the region include fire rings and picnic tables, though spacing between sites varies significantly. "The site was level and needed no additional blocking, a fire pit and picnic table with ample outdoor sitting room. A wooded setting gave plenty of shade and lent to the atmosphere of having more room than we actually did."

Full hookup availability differs significantly between campgrounds in the region. While premium sites often include cable TV connections, basic electric-only sites are common at state parks like Little Buffalo State Park. Most private RV parks offer dump stations, though location and accessibility can be challenging at some facilities. Cell service ranges from excellent at Gettysburg area campgrounds to spotty coverage in more rural locations. Several campgrounds impose site restrictions, with one reviewer noting: "Some sites do have a lake view and possible access, it was hard to tell. The non-electric sites had a parking pad and then for many you walked into the woods to the tent and fire pit area." Pet policies vary widely, with some parks welcoming pets throughout while others designate specific pet-friendly loops or sections. Pull-through sites typically fill first during peak summer and fall seasons, with partial hookup sites generally more abundant than full-service options.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Williamsport MD

    KID FRIENDLY

This is a huge campground geared around kids. We didn't bring any with us this time and were just staying here overnight. We are in pull through site 753, pretty level gravel site, full hookups, picnic table and fire ring. The site wasn't well cleaned, grease dumped in the gravel, dead grass, lots of stink bugs! Also had to finagle the cable line to get it to work. There are very clean showers and restrooms, large camp store, restaurant, mining for kids, Waterpark, and pool. Many cabins, pull through, back in, and tent sites.

    Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA

Awesome campground while exploring Gettysburg Battlefield!

We couldn't have been more pleased with this campground! The usual variety of sites, back-in and pull through, 50/30/20 amp service with full hookups.  Cable has the usual channels, about 20, available for $2.00 per night.  WIFI is free and we had good service, even though we were quite far from the office.  The site was level and needed no additional blocking, a fire pit and picnic table with ample outdoor sitting room.  A wooded setting gave plenty of shade and lent to the atmosphere of having more room than we actually did.  Located about 4 miles from town it is far enough for that country feel but close enough to be convenient.  The camp store was well stocked with basic needs as was the gift shop.  Trash is picked up daily, just leave it at the entrance to your site when you leave in the morning.  Cell service wasn't the best, Verizon had about 2 bars.  I can't say enough good things about the staff, from check-in and being escorted to our site with help backing in to filling up the propane on the way out everyone was courteous and helpful.  We felt secure at all times, and noticed a staff member frequently driving through on a golf cart.  A dog playground, kiddie playground, pool, putt putt, and other activities for the family.  All in all a very positive experience and a definite thumbs up for this campground!!

    Twin Bridge Campground

    Great Site, Great Staff

Took our new Fifth Wheel for a shakedown trip and decided to try Twin Bridges Campground. Staff was polite, amenities are great and clean, and everyone was friendly and polite. Big spacious sites, and a honeywagon to make things easier (there weren't any full hookup sites the I saw besides the long term spaces). Would definatley stay here again.

    Little Buffalo State Park Campground

A Hidden Gem In Central PA

The campground has approximately 35 sites, most with water and electric, which is rare for many PA state parks. The sites are mostly level, gravel, and good sized for averaged sized RV’s. Larger rigs may have some issues with site length on a few sites, so check ahead of time, but there are a couple pull through sites. Fire rings and picnic tables are at each site, but no wifi in the campground area. We did have cell phone service at our campsite.

The sites along the outer side of the look are more wooded than the inner sites.  The bathhouse is modern, very clean and well maintained. A playground is near bathhouse in the campground, along with several hiking trails. The dump station is easily accessible. Firewood is also available for purchase at the campground.

The campground is located across the road from the actual state park, which is beautiful and well maintained. A large lake is the centerpiece surrounded by multiple hiking trails, picnic areas, and a large swimming pool/aquatics area (in season). The road going to the park and campground is well maintained, with very wide shoulders for easy access, biking, and running. Fishing and boat rental are available on the lake.

We had a wonderful weekend at LBSP and plan to include it on our “Go-To” places to visit and camp.

    Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA

    Camping Gem Near the Battlefields

We had a great stay at Gettysburg/ Battlefield KOA Holiday in Gettysburg, PA.

We stayed in a level pull-thru site(#14) with deluxe picnic table, swinging Adirondack glider, and fire pit. The site was big enough for our motor home and Jeep. Full hook-ups with 50-amp service.

Lots of mature shade trees made the site more comfortable given the July heat. The paver patio with seating and natural landscaping with well-placed boulders made it quite comfortable.

Wow, what a great place to stay when visiting the town of Gettysburg and nearby battlefields.

From the escort to our site and friendly interactions with the staff, we immediately felt at home. The site was covered with clean gravel(which I like to keep sand and dirt outside), the camp store was well-stocked, the pool was inviting, the utilities all worked great, daily trash collection was convenient, immaculate landscaping, and a 2:00 PM check-out make this place a gem when visiting the Gettysburg area.

Just 15-minutes to historic sites, restaurants, and breweries.

    Everything seemed clean and well-maintained.

Bottom Line: This is a great campground in a great location and we can’t wait to go back!

    THINGS I ESPECIALLY LIKED:

    1. Beautifully landscaped site

    2. Well maintained and clean campground

    3. Close to town of Gettysburg and battlefields

    Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground

Basic amenities and activities for the average camper

Large campground with electric RV/camper sites as well as non-electric tent sites. Several bathroom and shower facilities. Lake-side sites are available and each site comes equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and parking spot. Friendly staff, decently maintained. There were several planks missing from our picnic table and the parking spot was a mud hole. Some pet friendly sites are available as well. A snapping turtle stopped by for a visit at our campsite and ended up laying eggs! Quite a sight to see, there is plenty of wildlife around to enjoy during your stay.

    Happy Hills Campground

    Lots of regulars

So this is my second time at Happy Hills Campground in Hancock, MD from June 25th-28th. It being relatively close to the home is the reason for choosing it because of doctor appts for the kids.

The site I was in (F1) was really small and very close to the neighboring site. We got lucky no one was camping next to us. It had full hook-ups (30amp/water/sewer) and a pull thru site with picnic table and fire ring. It was $40/night. This campground is mainly for monthly site rentals with more than 3/4 of them permanent sites.

Lots of golf cart and ATV traffic with no quiet hours that I am aware of. We weren't informed the pool would be open and you had to sign up for two hour timeslots to get in. This must have been information only available to the regulars here. Also cell service (Sprint roaming most of the time) is terrible and the campground wifi is spotty at best. The camp store was closed due to COVID so if needed anything you had to go to town.

Bathrooms were clean. Never checked out the showers but heard they were free.

    Overall, I wasn't a happy camper. I don't think I will be back.

    Cowans Gap State Park Campground

Great state park in southern PA.

We stayed in camping area A during mid April this year. It was a nice state park. Hiking, fishing, a lake, long creek. Clean bathrooms, heated bathhouse. Our site was #80 and had electric on it, water was just across the road. It was level, with a picnic table and fire ring. The ground was some pretty aggressive gravel, but it kept the ground pretty dry, and it had rained a fair amount in the days before we arrived. Very spotty cell service with T-Mobile. Some spots were more level than others, and others, some looked tricky for larger trailers. Weather was all over the place (as to be expected in this area in mid April. Had all four seasons in 5 days. Would revisit for sure. Totally forgot pictures of the site, but it was pretty typical for a state campground.

Guide to Orrstown

Most RV campgrounds near Orrstown, Pennsylvania sit within the Cumberland Valley region at elevations between 600-700 feet. The area experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 80-85°F and winters commonly dropping below freezing. Fall camping is particularly popular due to moderate temperatures and colorful foliage in the surrounding mountains.

What to do

Creek exploration: Relax by flowing water at Twin Bridge Campground where families can wade and play. "Our kids love the creek and playing in and around it. Some activities, playground, mini golf etc. but more of a relaxing campground."

Historical immersion: Visit Gettysburg within 30 minutes of camping. Staying at Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm provides convenient battlefield access. "It's literally like a mile from downtown Gettysburg, which also has a lot of different things to do. Overall I would def recommend this campground to someone and I would also go back myself."

Farm animal encounters: Engage with livestock at select campgrounds. Children particularly enjoy the morning feeding routines. "We came amidst COVID-19, so the many activities and events this location usually holds are down, BUT there is still fun to be had here! We've enjoyed mini-golf, feeding the animals, 'hiking' through the cornfield, fishing, and campfires."

What campers like

Spacious creekside sites: Look for waterfront camping spots. At Twin Bridge Campground, certain sites offer premium water access. "We had Site C, which was right on the stream. This was a very nice site and we had more space between us than others had."

Recreational variety: Pools, mini-golf, and scheduled activities. Drummer Boy Camping Resort receives positive feedback for its diverse amenities. "The pool with the slide was very clean. We would definitely go back to this place again despite the couple of cons. We have possibly considered becoming 'seasonals' ourselves at this place."

Family-friendly environments: Many campgrounds cater to children. Guests appreciate the organized activities and opportunities for social interaction. "Staff is great, amenities are great, awesome time in great scenery. I love it and we visit a couple of times a year with our kids and family."

What you should know

Site selection matters: Quality varies significantly within campgrounds. At Round Top Campground, location impacts overall experience. "While the site was shaded, it was also on a significant hill and had NO view of anything but other seasonal campers."

Seasonal population: Many campgrounds have permanent residents. This can affect the atmosphere and available sites. "There are many seasonals in the campground with 'stuff' spread out everywhere around their campsites. We were in a transient section in the back of the park with long pull-thrus."

Service reliability fluctuations: Prepare for occasional utility issues. Some sites report inconsistent electrical service. "Electric went out 3 times, once for over 24 hrs. It was in the high 90°."

Tips for camping with families

Prioritize animal interaction: Farm campgrounds create lasting memories. Raystown Lake / Saxton KOA at Four Seasons delivers excellent themed weekends. "We stayed during Bigfoot weekend. It was super fun as our family likes bigfoot fun. We started out Friday night getting the offered $12 bbq plate that included pork burnt ends, beans and potato salad that were 'oh it's so good'."

Book holiday weekends early: Popular times fill quickly. Many families plan their stays months in advance, particularly for summer holidays. "We camped here in May for Memorial Day weekend. We usually avoid holidays but gave this campground a try. It was pretty full and everyone seemed to have a golf cart."

Consider activity schedules: Programming varies by season. Weekend activities are typically more robust than weekday options. "Quiet during the week, weekends quite busy."

Tips from RVers

Site positioning challenges: Hookup locations can be problematic. At Gettysburg Campground, RVers need to plan their setup carefully. "The amenities of Gettysburg Campground are quite good: full hookups with cable, all working as expected. Level sites, friendly and efficient staff, decently sized sites long enough for my 32' coach and a toad."

Leveling requirements: Terrain varies across rv campgrounds in Orrstown, Pennsylvania region. Many sites require additional blocking or careful positioning. "Site 22 is a deluxe patio back in site with a patio, 4 nice Adirondack chairs, a double glider, a weber propane grill and built in fire pit AND a dog fence just for that site. The site wasn't hard to level our RV but overall the sites are hilly and in fact the whole park is on a hill."

Sewer connection placement: Design impacts drainage effectiveness. Some RV parks have elevated connections that complicate waste management. "The biggest complaint about our site was that the sewer hookup was inconveniently placed about six inches above the ground which meant that it would not drain properly."
