Best RV Parks & Resorts near Abington, PA

Lackawanna State Park Campground in North Abington Township provides full hookup RV sites with 30/50-amp electrical service from April through October. The campground features relatively level sites in a mixed-use area accommodating various RV sizes. "Even though I had a boo boo, they were very forgiving, after I explained that I had a brand new RV and it had an issue with my black water tank," noted one visitor about staff responsiveness at Clayton Park RV Escape. Frances Slocum State Park Campground in Wyoming offers electric sites with water hookups, though some reviews indicate tighter spacing between motorhome pads. Both state parks maintain sanitary dump stations and provide access to showers and restroom facilities.

Within 30 miles of Abington, seasonal availability varies considerably among RV parks. Most commercial facilities remain open from May through mid-October, while Thousand Trails locations in the Pocono Mountains region operate with slightly extended seasons. Navigation to some parks requires careful planning as several campgrounds are situated along narrow roads with occasional sharp turns. Pets are permitted at most locations, though breed restrictions may apply at private RV resorts. A recent review mentioned that "campsites are nestled in a deep shady mature forest," highlighting the natural setting that characterizes many of the region's RV parks. Dump stations are available at nearly all parks, with full sewer hookups becoming more common at private facilities than state parks.

    Stony MT Family Campground

    We’d do it again!

Not cheap but we’ll within area norms. This camp has many long term campers that are friendly and helpful and some have children with them. Some full-time rigs are weekend campers. Some weekend events are planned. Most sites have full hookups with 50 amp electric only so if needed have an adapter (available at the small camp store. We had an unplanned extension on our visit that included a weekend where a group was scheduled and the park was booked including our site. The friendly staff worked to ensure a temporary site for us for the weekend.

    Pine Cradle Lake Family Campground

Great campground in PA northern tier

The owners do a fantastic job keeping the campground shipshape. Restrooms/showers are immaculate any time of day. Heated swimming pool and the splash pad for kiddies is spotless as well. Nice, pull-through on gravel pad withfull-hookups that can take large rigs. Lake is lovely for fishing/kayaks/canoes. Seasonal campers are tidy. Only a few tent sites with water & electricity tucked into woods. Larger pull-through sites don't get a lot of shade, but there are back-in sites for shorter campers in wooded sites and shaded lake front, as well. Campground store sells ice-cream & nachos and supplies. Campground is pretty quiet during the week, but fills up on weekends with guests using own (or renting) golf carts. Activities on weekends. The campground sits atop one of NEPA's "rolling hills" in quiet, rural farming area. Cell service is spotty. Local winery/cafe just down the road for tastings and lunch. Row boat, paddle boat rentals.

    Chenango Valley State Park Campground

Well maintained NY state campground; good for family camping

We were just passing through on a rainy night, but this park would be a good choice for a multi-night stay.

    Activities for a Multi-Day Stay

    • Swimming in the lake, golfing, boating, fishing, multi-use trails for hiking or mountain biking

    • You're only about 20 minutes from the Binghamton/Johnson City area. For us, that means food and craft beer.

Sites in the Chipmunk Camping Area

    • Parking pads in the non-electric section are dirt/grass. Some of the pads are short; this section is geared toward tent campers. We found a site long enough to easily accommodate our vehicle and teardrop trailer (30 ft total) since we didn't want to detach for a one night stay. Even if the pad wasn't that long, there are other pads wide enough to handle a vehicle and trailer like ours side by side.

    • Parking pads in the electric loops (30 amps and 50 amps) have a good amount of gravel.

    • We usually prefer sites on the outer part of a loop, and this was no exception. The sites have more trees.

    Amenities

    • Electricity at about 1/3 of the sites

    • Pretty good restrooms/showers

    • Water spigots on the loops and more water at the dump station

    • Trash disposal

    • Playground at the beach area, not the campground

    Wildlife

    • Beware of raccoons. They are brazen thieves here...and every campground they inhabit. Just don't leave your food out.

    • The park brochure warns of the occasional bear but that's true even in towns all over NY. I doubt you'll see one.

    • Deer are all over. Watch out for them on the roads. We had four that were feeding behind our site in the morning.

    Mountain Vista Campground

    Mt Vista Campground

Beautiful Campground. Clean. Gravel sites. Fire ring and picnic table. All sites have ample room. Lots of pull through for bigger rigs. Wooded. Large dog park. Love the Campground except our site is near a fairly busy road which takes away from that beautiful tranquility. They have camouflaged it as best they could. Friendly staff. Lots to do. Pool, tennis. Sauna, pond for fishing ( catch & release ). Would definitely recommend.

    Tobyhanna State Park Campground

    Great family campground

This place only gets 4 stars because I thought we were going to have water and electric hook ups. They only have 2 kinds of sites, modern electric (only electric) and primitive. They have a potable water station and dump station and very few sites with electric hook up. They also have specific pet friendly sites. We had a wonderful time here. We went for Father’s Day weekend in June. The lake is gorgeous! Beachfront swimming and boat rentals, great biking and hiking trails. Sites are mostly separated by trees but are still close. Bath houses were very clean and they have a dish washing sink as well. Beach is within walking and biking distance. Two cons- Bath house at the beach is 50 cents for a 2-minute shower, so we just went back to the campground bath house to clean up. The playground near sites 53-56 is a little underwhelming. Otherwise was a great stay! We already booked another stay in September this year!

The Pines Campground — Promised Land State Park

Quiet, just remote enough, a Great Lake, and nice camp hosts

I stayed for three nights in a pull through trailer site with 50 AMP and 30 AMP electric. Easy to get in and out of, nice and shady, big spaces so you were not on top of one another, and nice and quiet. Clean and modern bath house, water close by, and great camp hosts. Definitely recommend it.

Lower Lake Campground Northwoods Area — Promised Land State Park

    Northwoods Campground

Big sites with 30 amp service available for RVs and trailers. Each site has a large picnic table and a fire ring with an adjustable grate. The pull-through sites don’t offer much in the way of privacy, but that’s the trade off for convenience. There are two potable water spigots in the campground. The bathhouse offers warm showers, 2 dishwashing sinks, and a coin-operated washer and dryer. The facilities are kept very clean. On the weekends it can get pretty crowded, so it tends to be louder at night then, but the camp hosts and the rangers do a good job of enforcing quiet hours. Access points to several trails are very near the campground. As with all PA state parks, alcohol is prohibited. The park doesn’t have a camp store, however, there is a small general store on Route 390 (The Lake Store) just north of the park that would have any essentials you may have forgotten, as well as ice for your cooler.

    Montrose Campground

Family and pet friendly year-around campground

We tried this campground a few times for short stays and ended up going seasonal last year and will do the same this year. It is a little off the beaten path but is great for families (plenty of activities for kids) and pets (our dog LOVES it there). They have a pool, fishing pond, hiking trails, mini golf, playground, large grassy areas for kids to play, and horseshoe pits. There is a store (stocked with grocery staples/snacks but also TONS of RV specific supplies/parts), laundry and showers (a new and improved bath house is currently being built). There are planned activities almost every weekend during the 'season' but they are open all year with some winter sites available. They have all sites available from tent right up to 50 amp full hook-ups. I can't wait for the new season to begin in April!

Guide to Abington

Camping in northeastern Pennsylvania offers diverse RV sites near Abington, Pennsylvania within 1,000 to 2,100 feet of elevation. The region experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 70-85°F during peak camping months. Fall brings colorful foliage with nighttime temperatures dropping into the 40s by mid-October, affecting campground water services.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Soaring Eagle Campground, the Delaware River provides excellent fishing spots. "Nice campground right on the Delaware river great for fisherman, hikers also great for tubing down the Delaware or canoeing," notes Mike S. The river location makes it ideal for anglers seeking smallmouth bass during summer months.

Outdoor activities: Winter recreation options exist at several parks. Lackawanna State Park offers ice skating with warming facilities during colder months. At Blue Mountain RV and Camping Resort, visitors can enjoy mountain biking on ski trails. "If you choose adventure this is the place for you, ride the ski lifts up to the top of the mountain then you get to bike down it, they have rental bikes available or bring your own," explains Lois.

Water recreation: Many parks maintain swimming areas and boat rentals from late May through Labor Day. "We had SUPs and kayaks to take on the lake and our sites were right next to the boat launch. Each day we would paddle over to the swimming area on the lake. It was awesome," says Shannon C. about her experience at Keen Lake Resort Campground.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Campers frequently mention the generous site sizes at certain campgrounds. At Keen Lake Resort Campground, visitors appreciate the layout. "The sites seemed a little narrow when we first pulled in, but it was plenty. The kids had fun riding bikes on the road, which was off the main road," shares Shannon C.

Natural settings: Many appreciate the wooded environments throughout the region. At Lower Lake Campground Beechwood Area, campers find peaceful surroundings. "We stayed in a beechwood area camp site...Each site comes with a fire ring and picnic table. Park staff were super friendly and helpful. The park and surrounding forest have lots of hiking and multiple lakes," reports Tiffany K.

Clean facilities: Visitors consistently comment on well-maintained restrooms and shower facilities. "The bathrooms were the cleanest we've ever experienced at a campground," notes Emily Z. about Keen Lake Resort Campground. Another camper at Lower Lake adds, "Bathrooms were clean and water was hot in the shower."

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Most campgrounds operate from May through mid-October with varying closing dates. "We came in at end of season, so pretty much everything seems closed. But, it's a beautiful campground and the part of PA is great too," mentions Kasey M. about Thousand Trails Scotrun.

Cell service variability: Mobile connectivity differs significantly between locations. At Thousand Trails Timothy Lake South, reception varies by carrier: "Cell service is ok. Verizon is 25 down 10 up. Tmobile is unusable," reports Don C. Planning alternative communication methods may be necessary in more remote areas.

Reservation timing: Many campgrounds fill quickly during summer weekends and fall foliage season. Some parks offer first-come, first-served sites, requiring early arrival. "This is a first-come, first-serve park in the Thousand Trails system so we had to drive around looking for a spot," explains Jim G.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Organize around scheduled campground events for maximum enjoyment. At Pine Valley RV Park & Campground, families find numerous options. "This is by far one of the best family oriented campgrounds we've ever been in...So many things for kids to do. From boating, to giant swimming inflatables, putt putt even a giant slide. All part of the price of the campground," shares Mommy D.

Weather preparation: Pack for temperature swings, especially during spring and fall months. "First trip of the season and we were amazed. Not crowded this time of year, serene, and perfect weather," reports Angie G. about Lower Lake Campground.

Pack everything: Limited shopping options exist near many campgrounds. "Not much for stores so pack everything in before," advises Siobhan D. about camping at Lower Lake. Bringing sufficient supplies prevents long drives to distant stores.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: RV campers recommend researching specific sites before booking. At Timothy Lake South, site layout matters: "Sites are kinda close together but it was fairly quiet even though it was full," notes Mary H. Other reviewers mention: "sites are long but narrow. Best water pressure I have seen on the east coast, unregulated it's over 80 psi."

Utility management: Water pressure varies significantly between campgrounds. Some RV sites near Abington provide excellent hookups while others require regulation. "Pull through spots a bit tight together but at least they have some. Had to move to a new site to get away from the trees to get starlink connectivity," explains Nick E. about Timothy Lake South.

Road conditions: Access roads to some campgrounds present challenges for larger RVs. Travelers should check campground websites for specific driving directions rather than relying solely on GPS. Blue Mountain RV provides a mountain setting that may require careful navigation for larger rigs.
