    Blue Creek

    Excellent spacious campground

We loved our stay here. Everyone was so kind and respectful. The campground host and his dog were excellent and so helpful! We enjoyed swimming and taking a breather from our roadtrip. Quite peaceful and room to explore!

Pawhuska Lake (Old City Lake) Dispersed

    Nice but overgrown.

It’s an ok campground. It looks like it hasn’t been mowed at all this year. Some of the sites would be hard to get to with all the tall grass. I camped on the back part and it was easy enough to get to. The toilets are just OK. One has the water level pretty high so I wouldn’t use that but the other one would be OK. I’m here in July and nobody else is here.

    Expo Square RV Park

    Solid stay

Was camping here for a horse fair and loved being able to walk to the barns and festival grounds. Laundry, showers, bathrooms on-site and security code locked. It's got electric, sewer, and trash. It's not really a destination if your looking for a camping experience around the fire pit and fishing. It's concrete, some grass and trees and is what it's meant for, a place to stay overnight and do your business at the fair grounds.

    Hawthorn Bluff

    Beautiful

We had a great time camping here! It was beautiful and clean. The bathrooms and showers were always clean and fresh. The only downside is that they don’t have water hookups at the sites. You can connect your hose to the nearest spigot but you better hope it’s long enough. The water was really high so fishing was so so. The dam is right across the road pretty much and the recreation area is nice. A couple trails with a few options.

    Tall Chief Cove

    Ok

Nice and close to skiatook lake. The bathrooms had spiderwebs that could have been cleaned out a bit better. Campsite had scorpions at night so be prepared for that 🦂.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Keystone Lake

Absolutely would not recommend Jellystone RV Park at Keystone Lake.

We called ahead and clearly explained we needed a full hookup site to test out our motorhome before a major trip. We were also told they had a playground and asked to be placed as close to it as possible. We confirmed that checkout was at 11 AM and were told if we needed a late checkout, it would be an additional$20.

When we arrived, we were one of the only guests there, yet they still insisted on charging a late checkout fee. Even worse— the site they gave us had only 30 amp electric hookup— no water, no sewage hookup— despite what we were promised over the phone. The“playground” was a complete joke: no swings, no slides— just a small metal structure with a few steps. Nothing like what is pictured or advertised. When we asked for a refund because the site was not what we were promised, the older woman at the front desk laughed and said,“It’s raining, the kids can’t play anyway,” and refused to refund us.

She offered a“credit toward a future stay,” which we obviously declined. There are only THREE sites in the entire park with full hookups, and they are right at the front gate next to the train tracks. As a military family(my husband is a disabled combat vet), it’s also worth noting they do not offer any military discount. Between the poor service, false advertising, and complete lack of accommodations, this place is wildly overpriced and absolutely not worth the three-hour drive we made to get there.

0/10 recommend. Save your money and go somewhere else. We left and stayed down the road by Pier 51 instead— a much better experience.

Pawhuska Lake (Old City Lake) Dispersed

    A free place to camp

This is the old city lake outside of Pawhuska. It is not Bluestem Lake (Bluestem is a couple miles north). The Old city lake is smaller and quieter and has no improvements beyond a few picnic tables and a toilet only the desperate would consider using. To reach the camping area you drive across the damn to the west boat dock area. There is a dirt road/trail that heads up to a few camping spots. Most of the camping areas have been abandoned to time but some of them are still maintained. The lake is a no wake lake and is great for kayaking. They used to stock it with trout. Near the east boat ramp is a pretty cool table top rock feature. Below the damn you can find a trail and some bluffs that are fun to explore. On top of the bluffs is an old abandoned camping area.

Guide to Skiatook Lake

Camping near Skiatook Lake, Oklahoma, offers a mix of beautiful scenery and fun activities for everyone. Whether you're looking to pitch a tent or park your RV, there are plenty of campgrounds to choose from.

What to do:

  • Fishing: Skiatook Lake is great for fishing. Campers at Blue Creek rave about the fishing opportunities, with one reviewer noting, "The lake was beautiful at sunset. The bathroom was clean, our spot had a covered picnic table, grill and fire ring."
  • Hiking: Explore the trails around the lake. A visitor at Hawthorn Bluff mentioned, "The hiking trails are nice although I have been a couple of times and had a TON of ticks but not very often."
  • Swimming: Enjoy a refreshing swim at Sheppard Point. One camper shared, "The lake has a great swimming beach area - this seems to be a fishing lake, only a few jet skis were out besides fishing boats."

What campers like:

  • Clean facilities: Campers appreciate the cleanliness of the restrooms and showers. A review for Keystone State Park Campground states, "The bathrooms were the nicest, cleanest bathrooms from a campsite I have ever seen so that was definitely a plus!"
  • Spacious sites: Many campgrounds offer roomy spots. A visitor at Tall Chief Cove said, "The sites are well shaded, but very narrow. The bathrooms left something to be desired…but they’re adequate if you’ve got to go."
  • Family-friendly atmosphere: Campgrounds like Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Keystone Lake are perfect for families. One reviewer noted, "Fun for all ages especially kids."

What you should know:

  • Reservations are required: Many campgrounds, such as Heyburn Park, now require reservations due to COVID-19. A camper mentioned, "I believe the roads have been fixed since the other review mentioned them, it's not that bad any more."
  • Limited amenities: Some campgrounds have fewer facilities. A review for Lake Sahoma states, "Only 8 RV sites with electric and water hook-ups. Small area with a bait shop at the lake."
  • Road noise: Campers at Lake Sahoma noted that a main road runs through the park, which can be noisy. One reviewer said, "There was a little road noise, but it did not bother me."

Tips for camping with families:

  • Choose family-friendly campgrounds: Look for places like Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park at Keystone Lake that offer activities for kids. A visitor shared, "The camping includes the floating inflatables, paddle boards, kayaks, air-conditioned outdoor pool with water slides and splash pad."
  • Bring extra supplies: Campers at Tall Chief Cove recommend bringing your own firewood and other supplies. One camper noted, "You'll want to bring at least 50' of water hose (probably more), as the spigots mostly seemed to be quite a distance from the pads."
  • Plan for safety: Make sure to keep an eye on little ones near the water. A review for Hawthorn Bluff cautioned, "Lake side spots are not advisable if you have little ones, the bluffs are very close to the fire pits and have about a 30ft drop."

Tips from RVers:

  • Check site levels: Some RV spots can be unlevel. A camper at Sheppard Point mentioned, "My RV spot is so unlevel it's almost unusable."
  • Electric hookups: Look for campgrounds with electric hookups, like Keystone State Park Campground. A visitor shared, "Great clean and modern toilets and showers with heating and air near the marina."
  • Be prepared for bugs: Campers at Twin Points Skiatook Lake warned about bugs. One reviewer said, "The only downside for us was the bugs! So many mosquitos, flies, and bees."

Camping near Skiatook Lake, Oklahoma, has something for everyone, from families to solo adventurers. Just be ready for a mix of fun and a few quirks!
