    Punderson State Park Campground

    Solo tent camping went well

I had originally gotten lot #81 but quickly got it switched to #83 because it was just waaaay better. Flatter ground and I was able to go deeper into the woods.

I went the first week of October, and on weekdays, which was great because I had no neighbors.

Staff was great, check in area also has a little store with all the essentials stocked up, lots of trails, great for biking and hiking, a park for the kids, fishing, canoeing, showers, flush toilets, all that fancy stuff was there.

Only down side was occasional road noise which I just can't seem to escape in my area of Ohio. And I personally wouldn't go here on weekends or over the summer because there are RV sites everywhere, which is another thing that dominates my area of Ohio.

Going again, as long as I don't have the kids, I would try for a test space as far from the road and is deep in the forest as possible. Do that at tge right time of year and I think this will be a great spot for me in the future

    Woodside Lake Park

    Nice quiet camping

Quiet tent campsite parked in this area. There are quite a few RVs parked here and it appears lively, but the tent area in hilltop was quiet and secluded. Very kid friendly. At night, there was highway noise in the background. A lot to do here but also very close to Cuyahoago Valley National Park.

Canal Fulton Canoe Livery & Campground

    Great location, laking facilities

The campground runs along 100 yards or so of the tuscarawas River. Sandwiches by a railroad, and walking path. They allow you to drive to your spot to pack/unpack, but have to park in the lot. While the campsites are scenic and what you expect... the washroom, especially the shower are pretty lacking. There's a nice covered picnic area with grills available with your own gas. And a small (toddler) kids area. All in all, a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

We stayed mid September and there was live music walking distance every night, a cute ice cream shop a short walk over the bridge, and a nice playground on the other side of the river that was also an easy walk.

I didnt partake in the canoes... but they do a river clean up monthly and really seem to enjoy what they do.

All in all a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

    Bear Run Campground

    Options.

This is an amazing campground with reasonable prices, an array of camping options to suit different camping needs as well as budget range. I am unsure if I just happen to have gotten lucky and decided to go camping during a special weekend, but it’s Labor Day weekend and I am loving that there is a calendar of events for campers to participate in if they choose to. Activities include wagon rides to the lake, talent show, karaoke…etc, as well as church! This was an unexpected gem as we are from Florida and were blessed enough to stumble upon the right person in a parking lot when my husband asked if they knew of any places that we could possibly camp at nearby and that gentleman told us about Moraine Park. Upon making our way out to here, we found Bear Run and have loved our experience so far. Love it!

    Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

    Woodside Lake Park

Old Park With Iron Laden Well Water Beware

I stayed at this park for 2 months in 2023 and was planing on staying for 5 months in 2025. I left after 2 months due to iron& sulfur laden well water that is provided in at least half the park. I spent hundreds of dollars trying to filter and clean up the water to no avail. It damages everything and they won't put a treatment system in at the well pump like the 2nd well has so you can filter it to an acceptable level for drinking, cooking, washing etc.

In 2023 I was in a section that was treated and my filters/softener did a acceptable job to make it work. I Used the laundry facilities also. This trip to see family in 2025 I was in a different section and by the second day it was unacceptable disgusting turbid rusty water with sulfur odor. I bought additional filters for Ferrous Iron Water treatment and remediation along with iron out chemical for cleaning fixtures and plumbing system on the camper. It barely worked well enough for a couple weeks between filter changes and rinsing the system for shower use. I Had to buy drinking water in town every few days for cooking, drinking and brushing teeth etc.

New owners bought the park in 2023 and have increased monthly rent from$750 a month to$950 a month but don't seem to care enough about the health and comfort of their guest to do anything with the well water for a majority of the park. Let alone any of the other infrastructure or"amenities" to be generous in there reference This year even the laundry machines where too disgusting to use that we had to go into town for laundry also.

The park needs major renovations to just bring it up to modern standards. The bath house is in decrepit condition moldy smelly and barely cleaned anytime I was over there. Site pads are rip rap 1" to 4" size rock with no fine rock coverings, or in some areas smoother rock and dirt but nowhere close to flat or level. Water drainage when its raining is deplorable and you very well might be in a mud pit at your doorway.

It's sad there are no decent RV parks in the Cleveland area, just old campgrounds that have added hook-ups and market themselves as RV parks and now charge like they are RV Resorts. Reserve a space at your own risk and definitely verify where and what water source you are on. Bring plenty of filters and plan on sanitizing your system after staying there.

What to Do

Fishing access: Mill Creek Camping at Berlin Lake Wildlife Area provides multiple shoreline fishing spots. As one camper notes, "We have our own private little beach which our dog loves. Which is another plus, we have a Rottie mix and they allow her in." The lake contains several species including bass and catfish.

Water recreation: Guilford Lake State Park Campground offers kayak and paddle boat rentals directly from the campground. A visitor shares, "We only spent one night there but we're really looking forward to returning with more time to stay so that we can take advantage of the kayak and paddle boat rentals."

Pioneer history: Beaver Creek State Park Campground features restored historical buildings from early settlement. A camper explains, "The best part about the area was the history that surrounds it. There is a pioneer village near the park office that offers some picnicking areas around it. It also has original buildings from the pioneer days (church, school, etc)."

Human foosball: KOA Lake Milton Berlin Lake offers unique recreational activities beyond standard camping. A visitor observed, "There seemed to be A LOT. Including human Foosball, a train and some boats. We didn't use any amenities...But, there seemed to be a lot for families to do."

What Campers Like

Spacious waterfront sites: Mill Creek Camping earns praise for generous lakeside campsites. According to one review, "You have lots of space and don't feel crowed to the other people camping. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table. We were fourtante that our spot was right beside the lake and we could keep the boat docked their during our stay."

Low-cost camping: Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area maintains budget-friendly rates even for premium spots. One visitor highlighted, "Low cost for staying ($18 for a waterside, spacious site for up to 8 people, 2 tents at no additional costs)."

Clean facilities: West Branch State Park Campground maintains well-kept facilities despite heavy use. A camper noted, "Very clean individual showers" while another mentioned, "Probably the nicest pit toilets I have experienced."

Winter camping options: Salem-Lisbon Ohio KOA remains open year-round for off-season trips. A winter camper shared, "This was an awesome place for a winter trip! The tent sites were big and right on the lake. Everyone was so kind!"

What You Should Know

Varying site privacy: Raccoon Creek State Park offers both secluded and open sites. One camper advises, "If you are like me and crave privacy, avoid. The area is not wooded at all and most sites look right into the sites next to them."

Enforcement inconsistencies: Rules at some campgrounds may not be consistently enforced. A Mill Creek visitor reported, "There were fireworks (prohibited) and the campsite next to us played loud music but it was before quiet hours so we didn't mind. The loud music turned into a party with alcohol (prohibited) and the loud music continued way past quiet hours. No campground host or personnel did anything about the noise/party."

Water limitations: Beaver Creek State Park Campground has water restrictions visitors should prepare for. A camper warned, "They are on a well so there is limited water and they don't allow you to fill up your on board tank. Make sure you fill up before you go!"

Site terrain challenges: Some campgrounds feature uneven terrain. At West Branch State Park, a visitor shared, "We stayed here a week after we sold our home...The site was labeled slight slope. That was a joke. We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches."

Tips for Camping with Families

Kid-friendly amenities: West Branch State Park Campground provides thoughtful facilities for children. A visitor pointed out, "There was even a step stool for kids to be able to reach the sinks. A staffed store(9am-7pm on Sunday, 11am-7pm Monday–Thursday and 9 am–8:30 pm on Saturday) with basic supplies."

Water activities: Cutty's Sunset Camping Resort offers water recreation scaled for younger campers. One review mentioned, "Pool is only 3.5' deep. Mainly for kids, which is alright but wish that information was on there site."

Evening programs: Several campgrounds offer organized activities. At Cutty's, a camper appreciated the "Many crafts and things to do for the kids," while another noted the "Lots of activities, things for kids to do. Dog friendly."

Playground placement: Beaver Creek State Park provides camping sites strategically located near play areas. A parent shared, "We got a site near the playground, which my 3 year old enjoyed. The campground wasn't busy and we had a lot of privacy."

Tips from RVers

Power hookups: Guilford Lake State Park Campground offers universal power access. As one RVer pointed out, "All the sites here are electric, but only electric."

Site selection: When booking at West Branch State Park, pay attention to site descriptions. One RVer advised, "Some are on slopes even the pads so make sure to bring stuff to level."

Water fill stations: Raccoon Creek State Park Campground has design issues with water connections. A visitor cautioned, "The water fill is on an incline so when our tank was 'full' pulling away from fill station it was really only 2/3 full. This was okay for a short weekend but not good planning from who ever designed the park."

Access roads: Some campgrounds have restrictions on vehicle types. A Beaver Creek visitor warned, "There is a road in the park (Echo Dell Road) that RV's/Trailers can't go on so make sure you approach this campground from Leslie Road!"
