Countryside Campground in Mogadore features pull-through sites with 30-amp service and accommodations for smaller motorhomes, while RV Village Camping Resort in Pennsylvania includes 50-amp hookups and big rig-friendly spaces. Most parks maintain gravel pads with sufficient space between sites, though spacing varies significantly between locations. "Large cement RV sites. Large playground. Beautiful Lake," noted one visitor about Atwood Lake Park.

Advance reservations are strongly recommended during peak summer months, especially for popular parks with water features. Several campgrounds close for winter, with typical operating seasons running May through October. Navigation to Austin Lake RV Park requires caution as the approach road dead-ends at the campground with a downhill entrance. According to one visitor, "The road dead-ends into the campground and it is all downhill getting there. Take your time and all will be just fine. Our rig is 39' & 16K." Most facilities provide sanitary dump stations, with Guilford Lake State Park offering dump services even while providing more basic electric-only sites. Cell service varies significantly, with some parks like Austin Lake experiencing no carrier coverage regardless of provider.

      Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

      Nice little State Park

Tomlinson Run is a small state park situated in the northern panhandle of West Virginia nestled between eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Plenty of things to do there including but not limited to…. Mini golf, hiking trails, biking, swimming, fishing, paddle boats, parks for the kids, and of course the camping. The campsites here are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots (2). Most spots are 30 amp with a few 50 amp (new for 2021). The park also has a few primitive spots available and some yurts and cabins to rent. I have a 38’ fifth wheel and the spots are tight for it (even the couple pull thru). Campground facilities are clean but dated. They state new facilities are coming soon. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded. I would consider the camping to be spaced generously (room to stretch out). They have a small camp store and information available. A breakfast is available during peak season for a small fee. They do have water and a dump station available (free for campers to use).

      Amish Country Campsites

      Amish campsite

Very small campgrounds literally next to if not part of a corn field extremely cramped back if our camper was 2ft from the camper behind us and 15 ft from the campers left to right. When we left we had to knock on camper doors to ask folks to move their cars so we could pull out of out parking spot. The other campers were very nice lots of local folks they were fun to talk to. The camp site did have clean showers. Hot water. And. Clean restroom facilities. The dump station isn’t the best it is on a hill so dumping ones waste tanks completely could be a challenge The owners were polite but short The sites aren’t the best the electric is only 30 amp. And very dated they did have water hookups at each site. I didn’t take any pictures as there wasn’t anything to see at the campground other than campers packed in like sardines It is close to town and the shops. Everything closed at 5:00 including gas stations As they say any port in a storm. So as a last resort I guess it’s is okay. Just don’t plan to leave after 5:00 pm unless you have a full tank of gas. No ada camp sites. They are pet friendly

      Bear Run Campground

      Loads to do...!

This campground is deceptively big! The nightly RV sites are close to the park entrance and are relatively flat. The campground hosts themed events, game nights and arts& crafts. There is a swimming pool and playground for the kids. It also has a small café that sells baked goods and coffee. On Saturdays they sell amazing Armish Donuts!

Further into the campground the sites turn to more permanent sites. Further up the hill are more cottages and camping. This campground is steep in parts and too large to walk efficiently. There is a fenced dog run area and a beautiful lake. All sites have fire rings. There is an onsite laundry, WIFI, onsite dump station and propane refill station.

You can also buy ice and firewood. The campground is gated. Lots to do at the campground and lots to do in the surrounding area. They welcome all furry friends!

      Atwood Lake Park Campground

      Incredible!

The Atwood Lake Campground is a true gem in a beautiful area of eastern Ohio! We’ve visited the Atwood region many times in the past but have never camped - but after this visit we’ll be back for sure. The campground is relatively new, with the campground area being completely revamped beginning in 2017. There are two overnight camping areas with seasonal sites in a separate section; we stayed in “Camp H” which is the newest area. There is a huge bathhouse with two sets of men’s and women’s restrooms and shower facilities along with a very nice laundry area. Adjoining the bathhouse area is a beautiful pavilion and children’s playground - all of which overlooks Atwood Lake. The campsites are nicely spaced though if you’re in the inner loop as we were or even some of the outer ring sites you’ll be looking right into your neighbor’s site. All sites are FHU on level concrete pads and include a metal picnic table and fire ring. If needed there are two very well equipped dump stations if you prefer to use them instead of the sewer connection at your site. Many sites are on cul de sacs directly on the lake with docks and fishing areas adjacent to the campsites. Lots of hiking trails, paved bike paths, a swimming beach and restaurant are in a nearby area. We loved the campground and will return soon!

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

      Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

      Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

      Mercer-Grove City KOA

      Really nice!

Very well maintained campground with lots of amenities, esp for kids (pool, playground). Generous sized sites, not too close together. Looks like quite a few long-term RVers here. Cute chickens wandering around. Hiking trail accessible from the campsite. Heavily wooded and quiet, but not too far off interstate.

      Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

      Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

      Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

Beautiful campground, choose your site wisely

When we arrived, we checked in at the camp office. The ladies there were very kind. The roads through the campground are wide enough for two-way traffic and nicely paved.

This is a beautiful, heavily treed campground. Even on Memorial Day weekend with lots of people, the park was very peaceful. The sounds of birds permeate the air round the clock. Chipmunks run amok. They’re just so cute.

We booked site 56 for our 39’ fifth wheel. As soon as we pulled up, we knew there was no way we’d fit even though the reservation site said it would accommodate a 40’ rig. The camp hosts happened to be passing by as we were surveying the site. They were very helpful redirecting us to a nearby site that would be more suitable. FYI, sites 55 and 56 have deep culverts on either side. One wrong turn and you’re going to have a problem. The majority of sites along our road were just wide enough to keep the tires out of the dirt, but not wide enough for the stairs to land on asphalt. If you have a motorhome or other wide-bodied rig, like an Alliance Paradigm, I would recommend choosing one of the sites on the loop around the playground. Those are better suited for newer big rigs.

TIP…the line at the dump station is long on the holiday weekends. Plan accordingly.

    Guide to Salem

Campgrounds near Salem, Ohio provide varied outdoor experiences within an hour's drive of the city. The region features wooded areas, small lakes, and rolling terrain with elevations ranging from 1,050 to 1,300 feet. Weather conditions shift dramatically between seasons with summer temperatures averaging 70-85°F during camping months.

    What to Do

Fishing opportunities: Kool Lakes Family RV Park offers excellent fishing access from waterfront sites. "Our kids age 4 and 8 fished from sun up Saturday to about noon and then sporadically after that throughout the day. That night we hunted large bull frogs. All catch and release," noted one camper.

Waterfront activities: At Austin Lake RV Park & Cabins, visitors can enjoy inflatable water attractions. "TONS of stuff to do here. Inflatable slides and such in the lake, hiking trials, playgrounds, all sorts of stuff," wrote one reviewer who appreciated the activity options.

Kayaking and boating: Guilford Lake State Park Campground provides easy water access with on-site rentals. "They have a camp store to meet most needs and a nice bathroom with showers. The camp store also rents kayaks and paddle boards. All the sites here are electric, but only electric," explains one visitor.

    What Campers Like

Peaceful lake settings: Many campsites feature waterfront locations with scenic views. "The camp sites on the water are very spacious, but the ones on the inside of the loop, not so much. But if you're camping with a group the inner loop can be a lot of fun," notes a Guilford Lake camper.

Friendly camping communities: The welcoming atmosphere at Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground stands out to visitors. "When I first got here the 2 owners went above and beyond in so many ways. Unfortunately they didn't have a 50 amp site available so the owner gave me 30 amp converter at no cost and also helped me hook up my gray water and black water connections."

Well-maintained facilities: Clean, accessible amenities make stays more comfortable. "Bathhouse is dated but clean and stocked," notes a Guilford Lake visitor, while another camper at Kool Lakes mentions water taps, outlets, trash receptacles, bathrooms, and hot showers as positive features.

    What You Should Know

Cell service variability: Coverage can be nonexistent at some campgrounds. A visitor to Austin Lake notes: "No phone service at all, no matter the carrier."

Site spacing considerations: Some rv parks near Salem, Ohio have tight spacing between sites. At RV Resort Village, "most of the sites are taken up by full timers. The ones that aren't are close together or the spot is very un-level."

Seasonal operations: Many campgrounds have limited operating seasons. Most parks operate from May through October, though some, like Evergreen Park RV Resort, remain open year-round.

Reservation requirements: Booking ahead is essential, especially for premium sites. "We arrived mid-September 2020, so Covid has had its impact and it's past Labor Day so pools / lakes are likely closed to swimming most years anyway," noted a Roundup Lake visitor who still found value in off-peak camping.

    Tips for Camping with Families

Playground access: Countryside Campground offers multiple recreational amenities. "Playground was a hit for our 8yr and under kids. A nice short walk takes you to Mogadore reservoir," writes one family. Another mentions, "Rec hall, playground, dog park. Propane is on site."

Swimming options: Water features vary by campground. Roundup Lake RV Resort provides "a sizable lake which boasts inflatables as well as enough room for self-propelled water crafts (i.e. kayaks, paddleboards, etc)."

Seasonal activities: Holiday weekends often include special events. "Kids trick or treated and all campers were very friendly," notes a Countryside Campground visitor who camped in fall. Another mentions, "Staff had crafts and pumpkin decorating for kids also and were helpful and friendly."

    Tips from RVers

Navigation challenges: Access roads to some rv parks near Salem require careful driving. At Austin Lake, "The road dead-ends into the campground and it is all downhill getting there. Take your time and all will be just fine."

Site leveling: Prepare for varying site conditions. "They keep up on the gravel and leveling which is always appreciated," notes a visitor to Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground, while another RV Resort Village camper warns that some spots are "very un-level."

Hookup considerations: Electricity options vary between campgrounds. Chestnut Ridge sometimes lacks 50-amp availability but may provide adapters for 30-amp service. Countryside Campground features "pull thru sites" that are "nice and long," though one camper notes that "sites were a tad small but nice and long. Even with the sites close together it was quiet and peaceful."
