My husband and I love coming back to this campground, because how of well we and our kids sleep! The sound of the creek at night melts all of your worries away and takes you off to peaceful slumber.
This campground is always in rotation for a visit.
TravelerFrom the moment we arrived at the campground the manager "Larry" ( a workamper) signed us in, show us our site on Wagging Tail Dr. We arrived on their opening weekend the Owners provided BBQ meal and live music "Jose Wales" band. It was a wonderful time. As for the "Dog Retreat part - 18 acres of wonder open areas fenced in to keep you furry friends from running away, there is agility park, puppy park, the main dog park, a private park (single or you can invite), a Lure run, a Ball Park, and a Pond for those watery dogs.
Price for Fire wood - a little expensive and 10 lbs of Ice was reasonable. There are fully fenced sites, a couple of sites with a fenced area. The larges rig I saw in there was a Solitude at 38 ft.
Over all, if you want the peace and quiet in the North Carolina foot hills with your furry friend and have a good time. This is the place to be.
One other note: It is the only park in NC that is a dedicated dog campground.
GuideGreat campground with shady sites that are not too close together. The onsite swimming hole and tubing was a major plus with our 6 yr old son. Great location in the Pisgah Forest and also close to Dupont Forest. We will definitely return.
ScoutThe Pisgah forest is ridiculously beautiful. It’s especially colorful in the fall. Highly recommended to people who like to hike and waterfalls. There’s also a wildlife management station nearby that’s great for kids.
LegendThe Asheville KOA is very pet and RV friendly. There are a number of walking trails of easy to moderate difficulty that run throughout the property. The dog park is a great place to let the pups off of the leashes for a bit. Staff pickup trash daily between 10-11AM at your site, but dumpsters are easily accessible.
We camped here in our 22' travel trailer. The back in sites are mostly level with a mix of dirt and gravel. If you're looking for a sunny spot, request one of the even-numbered back-ins. If you would prefer to be mostly in the shade, go for an odd-numbered spot. 20/30/50 amp electric, cable, water and sewer were easily accessible at each site. Camp sites are not very large, so be mindful of volume and lights with respect to your neighbors.
ScoutThis campground is the perfect base camp for all of your favorite mountain sports activities with plenty of tent camping and RV sites. Located in the heart of Pisgah Forest within the town limits of Brevard NC adjacent to the Davidson River. Mountain bike Mecca, excellent trout fishing, tubing down the Davidson along the campground, more hiking than you can do during your vacation from easy to extreme, less than 10 minutes from downtown Brevard with excellent food choices and several craft Breweries. If you can't find something to do you are not trying. During the summer months it fills up early on the weekend so get there early.
ScoutLovely large campsite on a stream in Pisgah Forest. The campsite makes a clean, safe, relaxing and convenient base camp for all your adventures in Pisgah National Forest, DuPont State Forest, and Brevard. Site 1 has a 30 amp hookup and can accommodate RVs up to 25 ft. There’s a very clean privy, an ample supply of dry firewood sold for a flat rate of $10/stay. No water hookups, but there is a walk-up only hydrant with potable water available about 200 yds from campsites.
ScoutFYI - this is not showing as closed on NFS site - right after the North Mills River Campground Yellow Gap road is gated and closed due to damage from Helene in Sep 2024. A call to Pisgah Forest Service office confirmed it may be quite a bit before it is opened up as there are other priority areas they are currently working on.
TravelerThe minute you roll onto Davids property, you know you are in a special place. David greets you upon arrival and provides you with a map of the property which includes meditation gardens that have been kept with love. Pisgah Forest is on one side of the road and campsites on the other which makes it very quiet with the exception of bird song. We stayed at site 4 which we were allowed to drive our truck with Roofnest up to. We were the only ones camping but the place is built for community while still maintaining privacy of camp sites. Water is available, camp rings with grates at each site and a port-a-jon. It does state that showers are available on the website but we didn’t request the need for this. The resident dog Sunny and our golden retriever had the best time together and our daughter enjoyed watching them play. Very family friendly, warm and inviting. The energy there is amazing!
