Medina-Wildwood Lake KOA accommodates pets throughout its spacious campground with tent sites, RV hookups, and pet-friendly cabins near the shores of Wildwood Lake. The campground permits leashed dogs in most areas with designated pet exercise zones along the lake's edge. Dogs must remain on leash at all times except in fenced relief areas, with waste stations positioned strategically throughout the property. The camp store stocks basic pet supplies, including treats and waste bags. Regular visitors note the clean, well-maintained grounds are ideal for morning dog walks. Golden Hill State Park Campground and Niagara County Camping Resort also welcome pets with similar policies requiring leashes no longer than six feet.
Lakefront trails at Golden Hill State Park provide excellent dog walking opportunities with scenic Lake Ontario views and accessible pet waste stations. The campground's proximity to the water offers swimming opportunities for water-loving dogs at designated areas. Multiple review observations confirm staff members are accommodating to campers with dogs, though seasonal campers tend to be more strict about pet noise. During summer months, the concrete camping pads at Medina KOA can become quite hot for dog paws, so morning and evening walks are recommended. Nearby veterinary services are available in Medina's downtown area, approximately 7 miles from most campgrounds. Wildlife encounters are common, so keeping dogs leashed protects both local animals and pets.

Really nice staff! Free putt putt. Clean! So much to do. There is a dog park as well!
Letchworth State Park is known as the Grand Canyon of the East and is located in Mt. Morris New York. My husband and I visited regularly when we lived near Rochester, NY. The park is stunning and is fit for camping whether you’re in a tent, RV or choosing to rent a gorgeous cabin. There are many walking and hiking trails for adventurers of all types. Make sure you bring your camera as the views are all photo worthy. The camping price is right due to the fact that the park is run by the state. A great place to stay especially in the Summer!!
We have camped at Letchworth State Park for nearly 30 years. Recent updates to playground equipment and restroom/shower facilities have brought the amenities into the 21st century. The price is reasonable, and the park is a gem. A couple cons to consider: pets only allowed in three loops. Quite often, pet loop reservations are maxed quickly. There is a two dog limit, which excludes many campers. If you are used to private campgrounds, realize that services are limited here. Mediocre camp store and laundry; both get the job done, but leave a lot to be desired.
Jake from the Dyrt here! Quiet Valley is a glamping campground with canvas tents in a slowed down country setting in New York. Check them out and leave a review about your stay on the Dyrt!
Not technically in the Finger Lakes but still one of the most beautiful parts of Western New York State. Splurge and eat at the Glen Iris Inn! Great for cycling and hiking but no swimming. I love taking visitors here in all seasons but in autumn it is exceptional. I’ve stayed in a few tent sites and all are wooded and pretty private with your standard basic amenities. This is a popular park so make reservations.
I went to college right near Letchworth State Park so I spent many wonderful weekends there! There is a reason why they call it the Grand Canyon of the East. Not only can you check out the beautiful waterfalls, but there are also many awesome trails, rivers, and caves to check out. When I would camp, we would rent a camp site with our tent but, you could camp with your RV or even rent a cabin. Ive gone every month of the year, but these pictures were from my birthday in January. Letchworth is one of the best parks in New York state and a definite must see!
My son and I have a new favorite campground. We absolutely fell in love with this park. I find it odd that even though I grew up only an hour away, we never camped there. Big mistake! There are many trails to hike on and beautiful views of the gorge and river. You have to drive to many of the places but it's worth it. There are many souvenir and snack stands as well as a pool (again, you have to drive to them). The camp store is small but well stocked with a laundry attached. Some loops allow pets and others don't. If you want to bring your pet, please check to make sure you reserve a pet-friendly loop. Unfortunately for us, it rained the entire time we were there so we never got to walk the trails or use the pool. Keep an eye out for other activities. There are balloon rides, craft shows, etc. that happen throughout the summer. With so much to do in the park, you don't really need to leave but nearby is the Arcade and Attica Railroad. It's a nice little ride through the countryside. There is also a small dam that you can visit (we missed out this last time). I highly recommend visiting.
In most states, those without falls like Niagara, this state park would be the pride of the land. With three serious drops in as many miles, the Genesse River winds it’s way through what locals call the “Grand Canyon of the East.” Many states try to make such claims, but this might be the closest any come to actually living up to such. It is stunning!
Along the river this park gives the motorist the distinct feel that she is on a parkway, not unlike Shenendoah, or Blue Ridge. Every few miles the winding pavement breaks out onto a few of the ridges and valley below, before ducking back into the forest of Western New York.
The campground, which is about 15 miles from the major falls area, offers what many come to expect from state parks. There are a wide variety of campsites, all reservable online, which can accommodate lots of different types of camping, large RV’s, small tents, and everything in between. Most, if not all, campsites offer electrical and water is available close by.
The bathrooms are practically luxurious by most camping standards, with single-use restroom/ showers available at all hours. The camp store offered a few grocery items, along with cold drinks, firewood and ice in addition to laundry facilities. Within a short walk were many hiking trails, an old-school fitness path, and a stellar playground where anyone under 9 years of age should get a great workout.
But let’s be honest, we’re not coming here for the campground, it’s the rest of the park that makes the drive worth it. So, check it out and get to know this stunning place first hand and be sure to bring a picnic basket.
Nice secluded place. Quiet surroundings with lots of stuff for kids to do. Swimming, fishing, putt putt, petting zoo. Camp sites are clean and large. Ownership is extremely friendly. Will visit again.
Camping options near Medina, New York center around Lake Ontario's southern shore, where the terrain features a mix of agricultural lands and waterfront access points. The area sits at approximately 500 feet above sea level with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F during peak camping season. Sites in this region typically offer partial to full shade with mature trees at most established campgrounds, while winter camping isn't available at most locations due to seasonal closures from late October through April.
Fishing in on-site ponds: Golden Hill State Park Campground offers multiple fishing opportunities including trout, bass, and other freshwater species in the on-site pond. "There is a well designed boat launch. Not only is there great fishing off the piers into Lake Ontario but there is a pond easily accessed for most to fish," notes Brian O.
Historic lighthouse exploration: Visit the historic Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse at Golden Hill State Park Campground. "Be sure to visit the light house on your visit. With standard sites and a beautiful water for fishing this camp ground is great for a weekend or even for a day hike or a nice game of frisbee golf. Lots of history at this place!" recommends Meag F.
Frisbee golf courses: Multiple campgrounds in the area feature disc golf courses for all skill levels. "The campground was quiet at night. The Niagara Wine trail is close to this campground, and Niagara Falls is about a 50 minute drive away. We hiked Devil's Hole and Whirlpool State Parks on this camping trip," shares Leah L. from Golden Hill.
Private wooded sites: Campers appreciate the secluded nature of sites at Hamlin Beach State Park Campground. "The sites in the loop we stayed in had about 75' between driveways, all with varying levels of trees/brush between them, very secluded. The beach is a decent little hike, but very easy flat bike ride or about a minute in a car," explains Benjamin C.
Clean shower facilities: Many campers highlight the well-maintained bath facilities. "The showers in the bathrooms were phenomenal - very clean with hot water and a private dressing area next to the shower. Showers were ADA compliant and had shower seats," writes Leah L. about Golden Hill State Park.
Lake Ontario views: The campgrounds along Lake Ontario offer unparalleled sunset viewing opportunities. "It was glorious to sleep to the sound of waves hitting the shore and wake to the panoramic Lake Ontario view. The old lighthouse is a beautiful building, and the grounds in general are super well kept," shares Amanda P. about the waterfront at Golden Hill.
Limited swimming options: Despite proximity to Lake Ontario, swimming access is restricted at several parks. At Lakeside State Park Campground, "It's a very nice park if you want to sit by the water but don't want to touch it. There's really not much of a beach if any at all. There's a decent cliff to get to the water," explains Thomas B.
Varied site conditions: Site quality and spacing differs significantly between campgrounds and loops. "It's pretty clear the planner of this park has never camped outside a KOA in their life. The location had so much potential but the sites are too close together," notes Brad M. about Lakeside State Park.
Reservation requirements: Many state parks now require advance reservations, especially during peak season. "Due to COVID, advance reservations are required to book a spot at any NY state campground," reports Leah L., though this policy has remained in place at most locations post-pandemic.
Multiple playground options: Four Mile Creek State Park Campground offers numerous play areas for children throughout the camping loops. "There are plenty of playgrounds for the kids and the roads are flat--perfect for bike riding. The only downside is that there is no beach but your pass gets you into Hamlin Beach State Park which DOES have a beach," explains Paula T.
Beach access planning: For pet-friendly camping near Medina with beach access, plan accordingly. "Hamlin Beach State Park provides excellent dog walking opportunities with scenic Lake Ontario views. If you want secluded beaches, skip the public beach and head a little West of Area 4, take the sandy path to the water for an amazing hidden grotto," suggests Benjamin C.
Seasonal activities calendar: Southwoods RV Resort maintains a full schedule of family events. "Southwoods is a beautiful campground and accommodates campers of all ages. 2 well kept pools, playgrounds, laundry facilities, mini golf, soccer, basketball. The employees are so helpful and nice!" reports Hope C.
Pull-through site availability: Darien Lakes State Park Campground offers spacious sites with easy access for larger rigs. "This park is a nicely kept, clean and quiet gem. There are miles of hiking trails, nice 'lakes' to fish and swim in. There is a fairly new Frisbee golf course as well," notes Jeremy H., who suggests this park as "a good alternative to paying the high prices to stay at the theme park down the road."
Low voltage concerns: At some campgrounds, electrical service can be problematic for sensitive equipment. "Our problem was that the low voltage power would trip our EMS. Power went to as low as 109 volts that I saw," reports Gary P. about Niagara County Camping Resort, recommending morning and evening power usage to avoid peak demand issues.
Paved site selection: Concrete pads at some campgrounds provide level parking but create heat issues during summer. "All campsite pads are gravel except for three long pull-thrus that are paved(M24-M26)," notes Nancy W. about Southwoods RV Resort, adding "there was nice grass between sites. There was free WiFi which worked well except during peak hours."
