What campers like
Level sites with views: Treasure Beach RV Park provides waterfront camping options with well-developed amenities. "Our site was large and fairly easy to get into. They have updated some of the bath houses and are currently updating some of their sites," writes Nate J.
Adult-oriented areas: Some parks offer designated adult sections away from family areas. "They have two nice pools, one for adults," explains Tammy K., indicating that Treasure Beach separates different user groups.
On-site rental options: King Nummy Trail Campground provides both RV sites and cabin rentals for those without their own equipment. "Our parents stayed in a cabin which was very nice with a bedroom, living/kitchen, and bathroom," explains Laure D., describing accommodations at a nearby park.
What you should know
Campground culture varies: Some parks have a higher percentage of seasonal residents with established patterns. "This is more like a long term stay place that has a couple of short term sites... we were surrounded on all sides by permanent RVs," reports Sonyia W. about Mays Landing Resort.
Site selection matters: Many parks have significant variability between sites. "Our site was right next to the pond. It was a Saturday and they were rocking. I dont know if the person playing the music was a professional DJ, he was incredible," writes Herbert about his experience at Mays Landing.
Rule enforcement: Coastal campgrounds often have strict regulations. "The rules are a little over the top for us, but the place was nice," writes Nicole S., noting how staff at Thousand Trails Lake & Shore enforced quiet hours precisely at 11 pm and had strict hot tub age requirements.
Tips for camping with families
Children's activities: Echo Farms RV Campground provides centralized access to multiple beaches. "It was not what I expected the site was very small no grass no privacy but the good thing about it was with centrally located around 4 beaches," notes mike.
Playground proximity: Select sites near recreational facilities for convenience. "Highly recommend our site to anyone with littles as you can literally relax at your site while your child plays at the playground!" advises Debbie W. about site #271 at Sun Outdoors Ocean City.
Bug preparation: Shore areas can have significant insect activity. "There were so many great things about this campground. It was beautiful and had so many different amenities including a little man made beach in the center of the campground. Our only issues were it was pretty pricey for tent camping and the mosquitos were INSANE!" warns April L. about a coastal campground.
Tips from RVers
Levelness challenges: Thousand Trails Lake & Shore and other parks require careful site selection for larger rigs. "This is a fairly large place. The sites are clean but small. Far and away this resort is used by seasonal and cabin campers. They only have a few (maybe 25 or so) transient sites," explains Carl S.
Off-season considerations: Many facilities reduce services in shoulder seasons. "We went in Mid-October as a weekend shakedown trip for our new camper. As NJ locals were looking to test out this campground near the shore," writes Matthew E., who found the campground had limited amenities after summer.
Reservation timing: The most popular waterfront parks fill quickly for peak season. "We would like to go in season but you have to reserve a year in advance," notes Paul B. about Thousand Trails Lake & Shore, highlighting the demand for prime spots.
