Cape Henlopen, just 43 miles southeast of Dover, has the distinction of being one of the United States’ first public lands. Recognized for its beauty and natural features, Pennsylvania founder William Penn decreed that the area should be preserved for the enjoyment of the local citizenry. That was nearly 3.5 centuries ago. Over the course of that time, Cape Henlopen has served several purposes but has always remained accessible to the public. In 1964, it was designated a Delaware State Park. Today, the park serves as an idyllic destination where campers, hikers, anglers and nature lovers can explore and appreciate the sand dunes, pine woods and tidal marshes in the same way the Founders did so long ago. The campground in Henlopen State Park is the perfect base to explore the area and enjoy many of the park’s attractions and activities. The campground offers a variety of tent and RV sites (many with 2-point hookups), walk-in tent sites, ADA accessible sites, and camping cabins that can accommodate up to six people. Amenities include bathhouses with showers, dump and recycling stations, a playground and an amphitheater. Camping is available from Mar. 1 through Nov. 30; seasonal campsite rates range from $20–$59/night; camping cabins range from $70–$130/night. When it’s time to play, the sky’s the limit. Four hiking trails are available for exploring the area’s pine forests and coastal dunes, visiting bunkers and watchtowers in the Fort Miles Historic Area, or taking in views of Delaware Bay and the Henlopen Lighthouse. Stop by the Nature Center and learn about some of the local bird and sea life (bird watching guides available), or take advantage of the park’s Borrow-a-Bike program and take a pleasant ride around Cape Henlopen’s bike path. For fun on the water, take a dip in the Atlantic at one of the swimming areas, try crabbing or surf fishing, or rent kayaks and go for an ocean paddle. There’s also disc golf and sports courts available for getting your game on. With so much to see and do at Cape Henlopen, you might just need to plan a longer visit!

Fun for the whole family. Lots to do and the beautiful beaches of Cape May, New Jersey are a short 10 minute drive. The different types of camping/glamping experiences exceeded my expectations. We enjoyed the Deer Crossing Teepee which had far more luxuries than any other glamping I have done. Highly recommend this campground resort.
A beautiful wooded campground close to the beaches of Cape May, New Jersey. Very family oriented and really a great place for adults too. We stayed in a teepee and it is one of the coolest places I have camped. These days I like glamping and this was the best experience yet!
We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting family In Philadelphia. It is a 20 minute ride into Philly and Uber was was quick and responsive.
*note- this does close for winter and reopens in April but call park for exact closure dates because they do change.
This is a nice KOA with full hook ups, tent sites, cabins, and even glamping cabins. There is a pool that is open Memorial Day- Labor Day. They also have a catch and release pond and we found a pickleball court at a nearby city park.
We did Chinatown and walked part of the Schuylkill River trail which we accessed by parking near Fairmount Park. This is a great area to explore with gorgeous views and easy access to the River trail. (There are rentals for everything here- kayaks/bikes etc)
IF we had a car with us- we would have considered taking the ferry from Camden’s Ferry Terminal next to Wiggins Park to Philly. (This is also near the Adventure Aquarium and the battleship New Jersey) Here is a link to information about the ferry-

This is a great location for exploring Philadelphia.
Happy Camping! Pamela and Keith
My husband and I stayed for a week in one of the glamping tents. The staff was very friendly and the tents were more glamorous than we had tried before, but definitely had a good combination of woodsy and comfort. The only thing we didn't really like was that there are A LOT of RV sites, and it's kind of a bummer to just stare at a bunch of RVs lol also next time we will look for somewhere with opportunities for hiking and various activities. This campground has a playground, so good for kids, but not so much an all adults stay.
Arrived at 1pm on Wednesday. Check in was smooth. They allowed me to drive around first and pick out a campsite before checking in. They charge $5 extra for a dog. So far it is very quiet and that's what I was looking for. It's just a short drive to the ocean is:Cape May, Ocean City New Jersey.
This place was recommended to us by a friend when we first started camping. We've been back many times since then. It's very close to everything, but you don't even need to leave the campground! There are a ton of activities! Certain areas in the campground are very "buggy" and it can get a little pricey, but it's the best place we've been to in New Jersey so far.
We stayed in a yurt. it was a great experience that we would definitely do again. There is a small lake that was great to kayak on.
We spent an extended weekend at Sun Outdoors at Rehoboth Bay(formerly called The Resort at Massey’s Landing). And we had a blast!
Located on Rehoboth Bay, this resort was a great place to spend a long holiday weekend. Our paved site was just a few steps to a private beach which was really nice and clean. The campground included a heated pool with swim-up bar, kids activity pool, camp store, ice cream shop, and restaurant with bar. There’s no reason to ever leave the property!
We found the amenities and facilities were clean and maintained. Our site(# 214) was level and the full hookups all worked fine. This is a dog-friendly resort in all areas except the swimming pools. Daily trash pickup from the site is a great convenience. Even though the place was full for the holiday weekend, the staff handled everything well and always had a friendly greeting (including dog treats for our 4-legged traveller).
We had the opportunity to take the Cape May Lewes Ferry from and back to New Jersey. Driving a motor home onto a boat is an experience by itself. And we were fortunate to have great weather for our entire trip.
This is a great place and we can’t wait to come back!
THINGS I LIKED:
Private beach
Clean and well maintained property
THINGS I’D CHANGE:
We stayed at Sea Pirate Campground in West Creek, New Jersey, for a week in mid-August We’re so glad we did!
Our site (#201) was a level pull-thru with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. It was easy to pull in and can accommodate larger rigs. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine. We had plenty of room to fit our car too. The site included a picnic table and fire ring.
The gated campground was clean and well-maintained. The heated swimming pool was large and the water crystal clear. The store was stocked with typical essentials like supplies, fire wood, and snacks. Daily trash collection was a nice convenience. Wifi service was strong and our Verizon cell service worked fine.
The front office staff were all friendly and we love that, especially when checking in at a new campground.
Drive time to Long Beach Island ranged between 3-40 minutes each trip we took depending on traffic. There are plenty of stores within a 5-mile drive if you should need anything including Walmart, super markets, convenience stores, and several restaurants.
Our only minor negatives were that the firewood sold in the store was so wet it wouldn’t light and they charge an additional$5 if you want it delivered to your site. And our site was really sandy and dirty which created a bit of a mess, especially after some rain, but it is the Jersey shore.
This is a great campground with a nice pool and good proximity to LBI. We’ll can’t wait to go back!
Atsion Family Campground
Off US 206 and about 1/2 a mile up Atsion Road in New Jersey’s Wharton State Forest, you’ll find the Atsion Family Campground. The facility is run by the Dept of Environmental Protection and offers Tent, Trailer and Group Sites. There are also Cabins for rent as well, but only available during the summer months, After Memorial Day until October. AFC is one of several campgrounds in WSF and is the largest with 50 camping sites. Amenities include a handicapped accessible restroom/shower building, several drinking water spigots, and a waste dump for trailers. There are no electric hook ups and cell service is low, but manageable. Plenty of sun (shady too) so bring your solar powered generators and cell signal boosters if you need to stay connected. AFC is also pet friendly, so bring your 4 legged furry family members, after registering them with the camp site.
The individual sites are spacious with a pic-nick table and fire ring grill. Some sites have lake-side water access, so bring your canoes and kayaks and reserve these sites (4, 8, 10, 12, 20 and 22) early as they are popular. The ground is sandy and relatively level for easy camp set up. Some sites are close to a roadway, so you do get some car noise, and like all unmonitored camp sites, loud, unruly campers can be lurking among the pines. Be sure to get your fire wood from the guy that lives across the street from the campground entrance. 5 bucks, on the honor system, a good amount of wood, open 24/7.
Nearby is the Atsion Recreation Area, which offers fishing, walking, biking and horseback trails, a life guard monitored beach by the lake with restrooms and snacks (Summer Months). Only 15 minutes away, a quick drive, is Batso Village, an old iron and glass community from the late 1700s to early 1900s. NJ State Park Rangers are working hard keeping the area clean, rehabilitated, and educational center allowing you to walk through the old buildings and time as you image what life was like back then. Wharton SF is huge, over 122,000 acres of sandy terrain, towering pine trees, lakes/rivers and off roading trails!! Y’all should come and play in the Pine Barrens
We went to Ocean View Resort in New Jersey to kick off the 2022 season in our new Fleetwood Discovery LXE. And we’re glad we did!
This campground is located less than two miles from Exit 17 off the Garden State Parkway. It’s located a short drive from popular shore towns including Avalon, Sea Isle City, Cape May, and Ocean City. We found the park easy to access and navigate.
The check-in process was easy and the front office staff was friendly. I appreciate being expected when stepping up to the front desk.
The most amazing part of our experience was our‘Deluxe 50 Amp Pull Thru’ site# E19. It was HUUUUUUGGGGGGE! See my photos. Our site had full hookups including 50-amp electricity, good water pressure, easily-accessed sewer connection, cable TV with limited channels(some were not clear), and Wi-Fi which was hopelessly slow. Tall trees provided some shade and privacy. The site was covered in gravel and stone, which is great because it didn’t get muddy after the rainstorm we experienced one night. I highly recommend sites E15-E27(E14 slopes too much for my preference). Most sites are seasonal trailers or-park models, but they appeared generally clean and maintained.
The campground, our site, and facilities we visited were clean and well-maintained. Not all facilities were open as the full season begins in a few weeks. The campground store carries a variety of food and drinks, camping and RV supplies, clothing, pool toys, and souvenirs. This came in handy when I needed to replace a damaged sewer hose.
It’s a good sign when it’s difficult to think of negative comments. If I’m being nit-picky, I’d share that the trash and recycling dumpsters were overflowing and unsightly. This could be because it was opening weekend. The firewood they sold was nice and dry, but they don’t deliver it to the sites. This meant I could only purchase what I could carry for my walk back to my site.(I believe offering delivery would be a major convenience for campers and result in increased sales for the campground.)
This was their opening weekend for the 2022 season. While we expected inconveniences or less-than-ideal conditions, we found the place was prepared for the new season and we had no issues. The lake, swimming pool, and cafe hadn’t opened yet, but we’ll be sure to visit those amenities during our next visit later this summer.
THINGS I LIKED: Site was huge and clean with well-maintained full hookups, gravel, and shade trees. Campground is clean and maintained. Store was well-stocked
THINGS I’D CHANGE: No delivery for firewood Slow Wi-Fi Limited working cable TV channels
Stayed there on our shake down trip with our new RV. Nice, Clean and Friendly. perfect for home base really close to lots of jersey shore happenings. and the staff is so amazingly helpful!!
Definitely would camp here again. Staff was great. Plenty of things for the kids to do.
This is a nice campground/resort that has alot to offer. The lake is beautiful, the mini golf is nice, and the store is one of the most comprehensive I've ever seen. Very close to Sea Isle and convenience stores. Nice place.
We spent a long weekend at Ocean View Resort- our second stay this season. And it was even better the second time.
Located about a mile or so from the Garden State Parkway, the campground is easy to find. And with advance check-in completed online, we cruised right on to our site at arrival.
I said this in my last review, but it’s worth repeating. The site we stayed in(# E26) was enormous. Lots of mature trees provide shade and privacy. Even though we had dumpsters at the end of our site, the length made it ok. Full hookups all worked just fine. Our site was level, included a picnic table and fire ring, and was well maintained.
We like the tram that circles the park each evening and the paddle boats on the lake. The cafe and camp store are great conveniences.
We enjoyed our site and our stay for Father’s Day weekend and look forward to coming back again.
GOOD:
Huge site with shade and privacy.
Nice campground with fun& clean amenities.
NOT-SO-GOOD:
Kind of expensive(we paid$117/night), but worth the price.
I really wish they’d offer delivery for firewood(it’s a long walk!).
Wifi and cable services are poor.
NOTE: I try to review the places we stay based on what they’re trying to be. Resorts with manicured grounds, water parks, and lots of amenities should be reviewed differently than basic campgrounds in my opinion. Every place starts with 5-stars and loses stars for things I believe could and should be better.
This campground is enormous! There are lots of seasonals here. The weather wasn’t the best during our stay so we weren’t able to enjoy the lake or the pool. Bathrooms were clean and staff were helpful and friendly.
Worst hospitality at a campground I have ever experienced! The staff was beyond rude (story below). But about the campground first....It's very large and it has a pool and decent size lake you can swim in. It seems to mostly be catered to seasonals (perhaps that is why they treat campers so poorly...) The seasonal fees seemed pretty expensive in my opinion but I usually just camp anyway, only looked out of curiosity. You have to pay to use a shower so bring quarters! For a campground that refers to itself as a resort, I was shocked by this. There is also a unique payment structure for guests (day pass, night pass after 4pm, or day + overnight are all different prices.) and guests cannot come into the campground after 11, so bear that in mind. It's close to the beach but that's about the only plus of staying here, their staff was so unbelievably rude, we will never be back.
Story: My sister was staying here for a week so I came to visit the last day, to sleep in her camper. She registers me as a "guest" (no one mentioned the various guest levels when she registered me, but it didn't matter because the plan was to meet up, drop off my bag + get changed, and head to the beach anyway. I was not planning on staying at the campground for the day). Morning of, she learns I won't be able to"check in" as her guest until 4pm. So she just gives me her car pass so I can drop my bag off, change for the beach, and head back out. They stoped me at the gate, began interrogating me, and would not let my car in. I had none of the above information at the time so was extremely confused... They called the office to give a rundown of what I looked like, which was super uncomfortable. Nothing was explained and this is where I noticed the treatment towards me shifted. So then I pulled over to the office parking lot so the line of cars behind me weren't held up getting past the gate and to figure out what to do and that's when I started getting harassed by the employees. One woman started SCREAMING my license plate number over and over again across the lot. The attendant and office workers were not helpful at all, acting like I was some murderer on the loose. I tried to diffuse the situation by saying I'd just leave my car in the office lot& walk to their camper to change into my bathing suit quickly and they said I couldn't do that either! I wasn't allowed to STEP FOOT into the campground AT ALL. Bear in mind, all I was trying to do at this point was change into my bathing suit and LEAVE but they were so busy screaming at me the entire time that I'm not sure they even know what was happening (I sure didn't). So I did ignore that crazy rule and told the attendant I'd quickly use the closest bathroom to the office to change and be on my way out. He LEFT his parking booth (with a line of cars waiting to get into the campground...) to start to follow me around. Threatening to call the owners, etc. I wish he had called the owners, I would have loved to speak with them! I changed as fast as I could and honestly felt like a criminal the entire time, and go back to wait for my sister by my car in the office lot. During this time I heard the same lady screaming at others in the parking lot (the parking lot is HUGE mind you, it's not like space for 3 cars...) Just aggressively YELLING at people left and right! Everyone was confused and uncomfortable by her screaming, I have never seen guests treated this way.
The license plate screaming lady came back out again to start screaming at me in front of everyone that I couldn't stay here/ park here/ be here until 4. (The office lot is parked outside of the campground entrance, mind you). I said numerous times I wasn't staying, I was waiting to meet with my sister and head to the beach. She did not listen and continued to SCREAM at me that I couldn't park there. Finally I made a snide comment about their AWFUL customer service(perhaps an inappropriate word thrown in because at this point I was upset, uncomfortable, embarrassed and frustrated) in which she said "if you didn't try and cheat us we wouldn't act this way!" My sister was staying there and PAID for me as a guest, I just came too early to CHANGE my outfit - so where was I trying to "cheat them?" How dare they talk to and treat their guests like this. They treated me like I was a criminal the second I pulled up.
I am still shaking thinking about it. Camping (especially at a 'resort campground') is supposed to be relaxing and fun, a respite from the real world - not an anxiety inducing experience. Terrible.
Family-friendly campground in cape May!! Activities, swimming pool and of course the beach nearby! Definitely a good spot if you have a family
Great family fun. Very clean. Close driving distances to local beaches and boardwalks. The pool and pirate splash pad are great for kids!
Sites are very wooded, close to eachother. Fun for kids. The lake is huge, the pools are crowded but fun. There is a splash pad for little ones. Our 3 yr old loved it.
Ocean View Resort was an excellent resort for our family with two toddlers. kids loved the Splash Park, Arcarde, Tram Car, playgrounds and Lake. So much to do at this resort. We also left the resort and went crabbing and went to the Cape May zoo. great family vacation.
My wife’s family has been camping here for 30+ years. So it’s a must for us every year. It’s a nice campground that has been investing in upgrades over the last few years. A few years ago they added a pirate themed splash pad by the pool and last year they unveiled a brand new mini golf course. Bathhouses are very clean and updated. They have a Great swimming Lake with a huge sandy beach.
Lots to do for kids
First time camping at the Jersey shore. This campground had it all from a huge pool and unbelievable splash pad to a great swimming pond with a beach! They just completed a new camp store building that has everything you could think of from camping gear to beach chairs and floats! They also have a cafe that also sells ice cream. The food was very reasonably priced and good. We will absolutely be going back to stay at OVR!!
I personally camped in the back yard in my hammock as my family slept in the camper it was humid in the back near the woods but still nice. Campsites are all right next to each other so you get neighbors no matter where you stay.
I have been here several times. The place is immaculate and the staff is extremely nice and accommodating! I will definitely be returning. Fun fact... Mr. Softee comes around evenings with the best soft serve ice cream!!!!
Very nice campground tucked away in southern NJ. Clean facilities. Plenty of space for our tent. lake for swimming and you can rent boats. nice hiking trails and playground. About 20 minutes away from the Cape May zoo.
