    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Established campgrounds surround Epsom, New Hampshire, with diverse sites for tents, RVs, and cabin camping throughout the Suncook Valley area. Epsom Valley Campground and Lazy River Family Campground provide family-oriented facilities within town limits, while several state parks including Bear Brook and Pawtuckaway offer more natural settings within a short drive. Most campgrounds feature water and electric hookups for RVs with varying levels of amenities and accessibility. The camping landscape includes both privately-managed campgrounds with developed facilities and larger public recreation areas with more rustic options.

Camping in the Epsom region generally runs from early May through mid-October, with most facilities closing after Columbus Day weekend. Water access features prominently at many campgrounds, with riverside sites especially popular. A camper noted, "The river was rather shallow but there is a swimming area downstream that would be deep enough for a swim," highlighting the water recreation possibilities. Winter camping options are limited, with only Circle 9 Ranch Campground offering year-round availability. Travelers should confirm reservation requirements, as most private campgrounds require advance bookings while having varying policies regarding cancellations and deposits. Road access to campgrounds is generally good with minimal high-clearance requirements, making most sites accessible for both small and large RVs.

The mixed-use campgrounds in the area receive varied reviews, with cleanliness and management styles frequently mentioned. Riverside locations are particularly valued despite occasional highway noise. Several visitors praised Epsom Valley Campground for its well-maintained facilities and riverside setting, with one mentioning "nice quiet place to relax" and another noting the "quaint and beautiful" atmosphere with exceptionally clean bathrooms. Bear Brook State Park, located within a 10,000-acre forest preserve about 15 minutes from Epsom, offers more secluded, primitive camping experiences with "mostly level sites under towering pines." Fire restrictions vary by location and season, with most established camping areas providing fire rings and selling firewood on-site. Cell service is generally available but can be limited in more remote areas, particularly at Bear Brook where coverage ranges from 1-2 bars.

      Gunstock Campground

Apparently Your Reserved Site Is More of a Suggestion

⭐**Gunstock Campground: Apparently Your Reserved Site Is More of a Suggestion**

I don't believe I have**ever** left a negative Google review. I generally think that when something goes wrong, you contact the business, give them an opportunity to make it right, and most businesses are genuinely interested in doing exactly that.

Gunstock Campground has cured me of that quaint notion.

I reserved a full-hookup campsite for two nights. I was unable to make it there the first night, but arrived shortly after 7:00 a.m. the next morning. The camp store, where registration takes place, wasn't open yet, so I headed out for my planned hike— about six miles through the Belknaps, including summiting Rowe twice and Gunstock.

By the time I returned, I was utterly exhausted, starving, and actually feeling weak. My ambitions for the afternoon were modest:**eat something, take a shower, and collapse at the campsite I had paid for.**

The staff at the camp store greeted me warmly, checked me in, and sent me on my way.

I drove to my site. There was already a camper in it. Not merely*parked* there, mind you. They had apparently moved right in. They were hooked up to**my site's water and electric**, with water spraying from their ill-fitting hose connection and forming a rather impressive puddle underneath the camper.

I returned to the camp store to report that someone had apparently activated Gunstock's new**"Choose Any Site You Like"** camping plan. A staff member went down to speak with them and came back to tell me they were "packing up." Excellent! My mistake was assuming" packing up" meant**leaving**. It did not.

Apparently these campers had actually reserved a site**two rows away** that had**no water or electric**. Yet somehow, sometime after arriving the previous night, they had accidentally found themselves two rows over, in my clearly different site, connected to utilities their reservation didn't include.

We've all made mistakes. I've occasionally parked one space away from where I intended. I've never accidentally parked**two rows away, hooked myself up to someone else's electricity and water, and spent the night.**

      But perhaps I lack imagination.

After they had now consumed about an hour of my afternoon— which, incidentally, is an hour I normally bill at attorney rates— I went back toward my site expecting to find it finally vacated.

And it was! Because Gunstock had moved these folks to another site**two spaces away from me**, apparently allowing them to pay for the upgrade they had already been test-driving. So the people who knowingly or unknowingly occupied my reserved full-hookup site, used the utilities, and delayed me from getting into the site I paid for were rewarded with...a nearby full-hookup site.

They never walked over to apologize. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable staying. It's difficult to relax at a campground when you've just discovered that site assignments appear to operate somewhat on the honor system— and that when someone helps themselves to your reserved site and utilities, management's solution is apparently to make sure *they* remain comfortably accommodated nearby. So I left. On my way home, I called Gunstock and asked for a refund. Surely, I thought, this would be the easy part. After all, I had paid for two nights, hadn't used the first, couldn't get into my site when I arrived for the second, waited while unauthorized occupants vacated it, and ultimately left because the entire experience had become so unpleasant.

Nope. Instead, the staff member **defended the other campers**. I was told they arrived late and "mistakenly" took my site. I was even told they supposedly **hadn't used the utilities**. This was particularly fascinating information for me to receive because **I PERSONALLY SAW THEM HOOKED UP TO THE WATER AND ELECTRIC.** I also took photographs. Including the enormous puddle underneath their camper from the leaking water connection. But apparently my eyewitness account and photographs were no match for the alternative version of events.

For my inconvenience, however, Gunstock did give me a coupon for a **free Bavarian pretzel**. So there is that.

I paid for a full-hookup campsite. Someone else occupied it and used the hookups. I lost roughly an hour waiting to access what I had reserved. The other campers were accommodated with an upgraded site nearby. I left because I no longer felt comfortable staying. And when I asked Gunstock to make the situation right, they refused to refund me and instead argued with me about things **I had personally witnessed and photographed**. The most disappointing part isn't that another camper took my site. Campers can behave badly. Businesses can't control everything their customers do. **What a business CAN control is how it responds when that happens. ** Gunstock had every opportunity to turn this into a mildly annoying story about a camping mix-up. Instead, they turned it into my first negative Google review.

But hey... **I do have that free pretzel coupon.**

      Crow's Nest Campground

      Kids Stayed Entertained

We brought the kids here for a few days and they had a blast. Between swimming, exploring around the campground, and just riding around and making friends, they always had something to do. For us, it was nice being able to actually relax while the kids stayed entertained. We cooked at the campsite most nights and spent the evenings around the fire. Great family trip.

      Berry's Grove Campground

Getting Settled Was Quick And Easy

Berry’s Grove was exactly what we were looking for. It is small, peaceful, and right on the water. We brought our RV and had everything we needed at the site, so getting settled was quick and easy. We especially liked being able to spend the afternoon by the lake without having to drive anywhere. It feels tucked away but you are still close enough to town if you need groceries or want to grab something to eat. Really nice campground for a relaxing weekend.

      Crow's Nest Campground

      Our Favorite Part Of Staying

The Sugar River was probably our favorite part of staying here. There is something really relaxing about waking up, making coffee, and being able to walk down by the river first thing in the morning. We spent our days fishing, hanging around the campground, and exploring the area. Crow’s Nest has a classic New Hampshire campground feel and we would definitely come back.

      Berry's Grove Campground

      Really Enjoyed Our Stay

We really enjoyed our stay at Berry’s Grove. It is a smaller campground, which gave it a much quieter and more relaxed feel than some of the bigger RV parks we have stayed at. Being right on the lake was definitely the highlight for us. We spent a lot of time sitting by the water and fishing off the dock. Our site was clean and the full hookups made everything easy. It was a nice place to slow down for a few days and we would definitely stay again.

    Guide to Epsom

Tent and RV camping sites near Epsom, New Hampshire range from riverfront locations to densely wooded sites under towering pines. The region sits at the edge of the Suncook Valley with elevations around 400-500 feet, creating moderate terrain suitable for most camping setups. Summer temperatures typically reach 80°F during the day with nights cooling to the 50s, while spring and fall camping requires preparation for overnight temperatures that can drop below 40°F.

    What to do

Swimming and water access: Pawtuckaway State Park offers multiple water activities on its lake. A camper noted, "This a a fantastic little camp for if you want to go canoeing or kayaking or boating of any kind! It's set up of three islands and a large majority of the campsites are right on the water."

Mountain biking trails: Bear Brook State Park Campground features extensive biking networks throughout its 10,000-acre preserve. "The mountain biking trails were a blast. We'll definitely be back again," shared one visitor who specifically came to experience the trail system.

Hiking opportunities: Trails vary from easy walks to challenging climbs within a 30-minute drive. At Gunstock Mountain Resort, a camper mentioned, "Got to walk to hike Gunstock. Wished there was a restaurant within walking distance. But not a show stopper. We will be back!"

Fishing access: Multiple ponds and rivers provide fishing opportunities within walking distance of campsites. One visitor at Sun River Campground shared their experience: "There are trails you can hike and explore. Spots are clean & roomy. Bathrooms are alway clean & showers hot."

    What campers like

Waterfront sites: Many campers prioritize sites with direct water access. At Pawtuckaway State Park Campground, a visitor observed, "The sites on the water book up quickly but they're perfect for fishing and boating. Also, the view!" These premium sites require booking 3-6 months in advance during peak season.

Privacy between sites: Site layout and spacing vary significantly between campgrounds. At Lazy River Family Campground, a camper noted, "The campground is nice and the sites are spaced out and private. We did happen to see a flock of geese flying down the river."

Clean facilities: Bathroom cleanliness receives frequent mentions in reviews. A visitor at Granite State Campground reported, "New bath houses, New hook-ups on many sites. Close drive to Lake Winnisquam and Winnipesaukee, Close drive to Gunstock Mountain, not far from Laconia, wooded sites."

Proximity to attractions: Many campgrounds serve as convenient bases for regional exploration. Gunstock Campground's location receives praise: "Large campsites, clean amenities, nice dog park, great store with everything you need and located near like Winni."

    What you should know

Reservation timing: Most campgrounds require advance booking during peak season (June-August). At Epsom Valley Campground, which operates May 15 to Columbus Day, a camper mentioned, "Me and my boyfriend camped here after trying to find a spot up in the white mountains without any success. The owner was amazing, friendly and super accommodating!"

Campground terrain: Many sites feature uneven ground with roots or slopes. A Gunstock visitor observed, "So many roots all over the sites, the platform did not fit our tent for 12 on it. More of the sites have very little separation from the neighboring campers near you."

Cell service variation: Coverage varies significantly between providers. At Bear Brook State Park, "Cell phone coverage varies from 1-2 bars, not always 4G, on Verizon," while another campground reported, "For cell service: ATT seems to have pretty decent coverage but not Verizon."

Highway noise: Some riverside campgrounds experience road noise. A Lazy River visitor noted, "Our site was right along the river. Be aware that the sites along the river, while waterfront and nice, do suffer from road noise coming from NH28."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature dedicated play areas. A visitor at Calef Lake Camping Area noted, "Small campground but we had fun here. Small lake to swim in and a small playground. They had a beach dance which was really fun." Activities often include weekend events during summer.

Swimming options: Water quality and access vary between locations. Sun River Campground provides river access, though one camper observed, "The beach water is connected to the river and a bit on the stagnant/murky side (I'm a little bit of a water snob & really only swim in fairly clear water)."

Site selection for groups: Some campgrounds have clustered sites ideal for multiple families. At Bear Brook State Park, a camper recommended, "I also liked the sites across from ours near the ball field and thought they would make a nice place for a large group of friends to pitch their tents (Sites 31, 32, 33, 34)."

Scheduled activities: Weekend events provide structured entertainment. A Calef Lake visitor shared, "This campground is perfect for a quick escape from southern NH without going too far north! Located in Alton, this quiet family owned campground is a favorite among our group!"

    Tips from RVers

Site dimensions: Many campgrounds have limited space for larger rigs. At Great Meadow Campground (formerly Hillcrest), a camper described the hookups: "Electric (30 and 50amp), water, satellite and cable hookups as well as tank dump hookups at each site."

Road conditions: Internal campground roads vary in quality and width. Lazy River Family Campground has "one lane gravel road, 50 amp and 30 amp power available, large number of full time campers," according to one RVer's assessment.

Hookup availability: Water and electric connections are standard, but sewer varies. Gunstock Campground offers full hookups at select sites, with one visitor noting, "The staff upon arrival was so nice. It was so quiet at night! Got to walk to hike Gunstock."

Leveling requirements: Many sites require blocks or leveling systems. A visitor at Granite State Campground observed, "The tent site has water, electric, and a fire pit. They brought us a picnic table to use for the night. The tent was on a nice smooth spot, which was comfortable."
