Best RV Parks & Resorts near Silver Gate, MT

Yellowstone Edge RV Park located 30 miles north of Silver Gate provides full hookup motorhome sites with electric, water and sewer connections. Sites are equipped with picnic tables and concrete pads, accommodating large rigs up to 75 feet. Fishing Bridge RV Park inside Yellowstone National Park offers concrete pull-through sites with complete hookups, primarily designed for hard-sided RVs due to bear activity in the area. Perry's RV Park in Red Lodge features electric and water hookups but lacks sewer connections at individual sites. Between these options, site spacing varies considerably, with Yellowstone RV Park in Gardiner offering big-rig friendly spaces with 50-amp service. "The sites were each well spaced and offered a soft grassy pad when staying, unlike the darkened dry grassy lands around."

Driving large motorhomes requires careful planning when approaching campgrounds in the region. Several mountain parks have steep access roads that may challenge larger rigs, particularly during spring thaw or after heavy rainfall. A visitor noted, "We entered Yellowstone through the Northeast from Silver Gate Montana to avoid traffic and locate a smaller campground." Cell service varies dramatically throughout the area - strong at Mammoth Hot Springs but minimal in other locations. Most RV parks operate seasonally from May through October, with Fishing Bridge typically closing by late September. Dump stations are limited, with the closest reliable options in Cody, Wyoming or at Buffalo Bill State Park. Propane fill service is available at Yellowstone Valley Inn & RV, though most parks require guests to secure propane in nearby towns.

Fishing Bridge RV Park--Yellowstone National Park

    Windy but ok

Fishing Bridge is the only hard sided RV only, full hook-up campground that can accommodate big rigs inside Yellowstone National Park.  We were in loop E, which had concrete pads and picnic tables.  Every site in loop E is a pull through, which is nice.  However, there is zero shade and it gets windy.  It didn't seem to bother some of the other campers since people were still eating at their picnic tables, but I found it tedious to combat the wind whilst trying to have dinner the one night we did attempt to eat outside.  Campfires and propane fire pits are not allowed so you will find zero campfire rings in this campground.  You can have either propane grills or charcoal grills, but they have to be kept within the RV/trailer or tow vehicle at night.  Nothing should be left outside at night due to the possibility of curious bears that come looking for food.  We played it safe and  locked up everything during the day when we weren't there and at night.  Just outside the rv park is a general store with souvenirs, small grocery, camping gear, and deli.  There's also a gas station and rv/auto parts store.  Across from that is the Fishing Bridge Visitor's Center.  Fishing Bridge is located centrally in the park on the east entrance road.  The website says cell service is spotty, but I had no issues with Verizon and had decent service in the rv park and surrounding Fishing Bridge area as well as the other main attraction areas in the park (Old Faithful, Canyon Village, etc.)  Basically, if there were amenities--hotels/lodges, gas stations, campgrounds--there was cell service in and around that area.  There was little or no service between those areas.  We stayed 4 nights, Monday-Friday, and even though there were signs that said the park was full, I always saw empty spaces, at least in loop E.

    Colter Campground

Low branches big potholes- big rig be cautious

I really wanted to camp here but after scouting we would not have fit our fifth wheel. The trees were about 7.5-8’ wide and height clearance was probably close to 12’. If you go to the end and turn around there’s some sites you could possibly tuck a big rig into but the turn around is very tight and you may get hung up on rocks. Though the sites were nice we did not find it big rig accessible in its current state.

    Sheep Mountain BLM

    Great location! Free boondocking!

We were able to haul our 45-ft fifth wheel and find level ground. There are some additional locations to park higher on the hill but the road to get there is a little more rough. I've seen smaller camper vans but we couldn't haul our big rig up there. We boondocked here all week. Not far from Yellowstone and the town of Cody with amenities. The sheep mountain hiking trailhead is right here and lots of off-roading trails for single and double track. Great views. It was rainy and windy half the time we were here (late May). The roads were dirt but still solid and well maintained. Some of the hiking and OHV trails got muddy up on the mountain.

Pebble Creek Campground — Yellowstone National Park - CLOSED IN 2024

    Great Small Campground

We entered Yellowstone through the Northeast from Silver Gate Montana to avoid traffic and locate a smaller campground. Pebble Creek was great for tent camping. There are about 30 sites at this location which is best suited for tent campers or those traveling with a small camper or van. The have the toilets and fire pits. They don’t take reservations at this site. You need to be here early to get a site. The wildlife is the area is amazing. We saw plenty of bears and bison everywhere. Yellowstone did not disappoint. The summer crowds were overwhelming in some of the more popular area. I would like to come in the off-season and do some more hikes.

Indian Creek Campground — Yellowstone National Park

    Far from the madding crowd

Camped here many times over the years, it was our favorite place in the park. It's a bit more like a National Forest CG because it's somewhat off the beaten path and quiet. It is certainly more crowded these days than it used to be, back then it rarely filled.

The site are good, some more private than others. It is NOT a place for Big Rigs, I think the length limit was 35' last time I was there (vehicle + trailer or whatever you're pulling) and they strictly enforced that. The volunteers at the entrance cabin actually brought out a tape measure and measured my 4Runner and 17' Casita at 31' so we got in. Many rigs behind us in line were too big and were turned away.

The creeks (Indian & Obsidian) contain small Brook Trout. For supplies, Mammoth is the closest place.

Have been the in June, July August & September.

The campground is totally on the reservation system unlike a few years ago. No 1st come, 1st serve anymore.

    Eagle Creek Campground

Yellowstone Northern Access At A Lower Price Point

When it comes to Yellowstone camping can be difficult unless you plan far in advance and prices can soar in the summer months.   For those wanting a little better price points and convenient access to the northern most entrance visiting the Gallatin National Forest is a great option for finding that perfect location and still maintaining access.

I visited this area and was very impressed with the campground and the spacing it provided.   But more importantly I was happy to see that unlike the Yellowstone campgrounds which lack cell signal, at this location I was able to utilize my services through AT&T.    Sure that might not be something everyone considers when traveling, but when you work remotely being able to access the internet through my cell phone is very important.  I had been in the park for several days so stopping here was a good catch up opportunity.

The sites were each well spaced and offered a soft grassy pad for my tent when staying, unlike the darkened dry grassy lands around.   It was almost as though this location was an oasis, despite having no services.

Each sight provides a bear box, picnic table and fire ring, overall very standard for this area.    Additionally there were basic vault toilets which were very well maintained.  One person at the campground actually joked about that being a great hiding place should a bear enter camp...lol

Camping at this location has a 16 night limit and sites are only $7 per night, which is $20 less expensive than the closest Yellowstone campground.  Similar rules apply to this campground as others in the area.   There are no trash services so you have to pack in and out all of your trash.   Generators can be use throughout the camp during certain hours and there are fire restrictions during certain conditions and times (posted on the entry kiosk).   This is an honor system campground with a pay box at the entry, however I did notice it was patrolled at least once nightly by area Forest Service, unlike the pull off sites just beyond camp.

    TIPS:

    • If you need anything you can stop off just before turning onto the road at any number of stores, shops or restaurants in the low laying community.
    • If you need high speed WIFI Subway in the local community has the best access for free.
    • West Entrance allows you to split to to east which is where you will spot more wildlife versus the Western side of the park where you will find more of the geothermal features.

Fishing Bridge RV Park--Yellowstone National Park

Great location, full hookup, small spaces.

Full hookup campground in the heart of Yellowstone. This is a large, busy campground with oddly shaped spots where you park beside your trailer. Big rigs may find it a tight fit but our small trailer was fine. Nearby store is well stocked and gas was available as well. Lake Lodge and Lake Hotel are nearby and offer lots of food choices. Showers were adequate but busy and expect to wait during peak season. No wifi or cell service. If you are looking for scenery you won't find it here, but it's a great base for your Yellowstone explorations due to the central location.

NOTE: Only hard-sided units are allowed here due to bears frequenting the campground.

Inside Yellowstone, full hook up site

Great location inside Yellowstone. Perfect for upper or lower loop attractions. This RV campground has concrete pads and pull through sites, picnic table on site. Restroom building close by, but showers are located in different building by main office. Huge laundry area as well by main offfice.

Guide to Silver Gate

Campers near Silver Gate, Montana access several RV parks within a 30-mile radius, each offering distinct terrain advantages. The region sits at elevations between 5,000-7,000 feet, creating cool summer evenings even during July and August when daytime temperatures typically range from 65-80°F. Winter conditions often persist through May at higher elevations, limiting access to some remote camping areas until late spring.

What to do

Fishing access: 15 feet from your door at Yellowstone Edge RV Park, where the Yellowstone River provides immediate recreation. "We parked on one of the river sites, and the river was about 15 feet from our back door, absolutely beautiful," notes Dawn R., highlighting the proximity to premier fishing spots.

Hiking nearby trails: The Beartooth Highway area offers multiple trail options for day hikes. At Lily Lake, "Nice hikes to and around the lake" are available according to Eric A., who adds "Definitely Grizzly country so be prepared." Most trails in this area are best accessed from June through September.

Hot springs visits: Several campgrounds provide convenient access to natural hot springs. "We got in around 5 pm, hooked up, put our suits on and headed to the hot springs," reports Bree G. about staying at Yellowstone RV Park in Gardiner. Chico Hot Springs is approximately 20 minutes from Livingston campgrounds.

What campers like

Riverside camping: The sound of flowing water enhances many camping experiences in the area. "We were right on the Yellowstone River, about 90 minutes north of Yellowstone NP... The view of the river and the mountains is fantastic," says Joel R. about his stay at Yellowstone Edge RV Park.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Many campers report wildlife sightings directly from their campsites. "Elk roam the campground and that supper cool!" writes Donna H. at Sun Outdoors Yellowstone North. Pronghorn, deer, and various bird species are commonly spotted throughout the region.

Mountain vistas: The surrounding mountain ranges provide scenic backdrops at most campgrounds. At Lily Lake, Anna K. describes "beautiful views on Abasoka range on one side and Beartooth on the other." These views are particularly notable during sunrise and sunset.

What you should know

Cell service reliability: Coverage varies dramatically between campgrounds, even those in close proximity. "I had a few bars of Cricket cell service right before entering the campground at the top of the road, but no service at our site," reports Emily about Lily Lake, while other reviewers note spotty service throughout the region.

Road conditions to remote sites: Many dispersed camping areas require navigating rough roads. Shannon T. warns about Lily Lake: "Terribly rough rutted out road to get to the campground. Would not recommend for low clearance cars." Plan vehicle access accordingly.

Bear safety requirements: Most campgrounds in the region enforce strict food storage regulations. At Snowbank Campground, TMB notes "this is grizzly country so proper food storage and best practices are required by law." Bear-proof storage containers are provided at many established sites.
