Lane Spring Recreation Area provides a nice setting along Little Piney Creek and a scenic patio overlooking beautiful Lane Spring. A large, accessible picnic area with two pavilions can be reserved, as well as individual campsites. All kinds of outdoor recreation opportunities are in the area. Natural Features: The recreation area is situated along Little Piney Creek, with some waterfront campsites available. A beautiful hardwood forest covers the area, which lies in the northwestern portion of the Mark Twain National Forest. An accessible shaded stone patio overlooks tranquil Lane Spring, a bubbling spring with watercress and native plant species. It is bordered by a variety of trees, including sycamore, cypress, oak and many others. Recreation: Trout fishing is popular along the portion of the creek nearest Lane Spring, as it is managed by a wild trout fishery. The fish population is self-sustained instead of being stocked. Only artificial lures and flies may be used, and a daily limit is applied of one trout measuring 18 inches or longer. Bass and sunfish are also plentiful. The 1.25-mile Blossom Rock Trail and the 1.5-mile Cedar Bluff Trail traverse through lush bottomland vegetation with abundant wildflowers, before climbing to views of the river and rock outcroppings. Birding and wildlife viewing is popular along the trails. Facilities: The recreation area offers a picnic area with two group picnic pavilions, each equipped with tables, grills and electric outlets. Each can accommodate up to 100 people. If unreserved, the pavilions are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional individual picnic sites are available. Several family campsites are available as well. Each site is equipped with a table, lantern post and campfire ring with grill. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided.

        Spacious sites and friendly staff

Spacious and mostly level sites, which is outstanding as this park is on face of a hill. We stayed in march so leaves are off the trees and could hear road noise. Very nice stay.

        Lane Spring Recreation Area

        Beautiful & Peaceful Forest Campground

I stayed the night here in late April, and it was absolutely gorgeous. The campground is in the middle of a forest with a large creek running around it. It was springtime and everything was so green, there were wildflowers popping up all over the place. The sound of the creek running right behind my camp site felt so soothing. I wish I could have stayed a few more nights; this place was a little bit of magic.

The campground: The road that loops through the campground is paved, and for most (if not all) campsites you park right at your site. My campsite included a large firepit with a grate that you could grill on, a picnic table, and a paved parking space to pull-in. Even though the place was over half full, it felt very quiet. I stayed towards the back of the loop, and the creek ran just below my site. There were clean vault toilets and a trash receptacle across the road from my site. The only downside: there are places where the creek runs over the road a little, so that might cause issues if there's heavy rain in the forecast.

The area: About a thirty minute drive from Rolla, where there are plenty of places to get food or supplies. I didn't have a lot of time to explore Lane Springs Recreation Area, but it looked nice.

Booking: I drove up to the sign at the front of the campground and put my payment in an envelope. I'm not sure if there are other options to book ahead of time.

        Cell Service: Verizon worked fine.

        Nice KOA, smaller spots

All the typical amenities of a KOA, but very small and the spots are pretty tight. Felt like we were sharing our campfire with the neighbors. Close to Bennett Springs!

        Clean facilities , great hosts.

We picked a standard non electric site as it was level and not crowded. $8 for seniors so not bad. Lots of fishing activities here on the lake. Would stay longer if we had the time.

        Bennett Springs State Park Cabins

Had a great time in a spacious cabin with full kitchen and bath. Comfortably held 5 of us in one cabin. A little busier than I like, but fun to watch all the fly fisherfolk. Niangua River was gorgeous and so fun to swim in (clear all the way to the bottom). Caught tadpoles with our hands and watched tiny fish. Lots of chiggers was the only downfall. Hiking trails were great with natural bridges and caves. Super fun time!

        Linn Creek Koa

        Southern Discomfort

Lynn Creek KOA is a mediocre resort. The pool and the bathroom facilities are pros, and the sites have trees for added shade.

But the cons outweigh those pros, as the sites are all gravel with very little grass, deferred maintenance is an issue for electric & water outlets, the noise from the freeway running in front of the resort is unbearable at all hours, and the flies are biting nonstop.

        Great Family Park!

We visited Bennet Spring State Park on 4/2/22 for one night to camp with some friends.

We stayed at site 440 with our Sierra 2500 & Keystone Springdale 2820BH.

The site was easy to back into, and had plenty of room for our truck & rig. This site is electric only, no water or sewer.

The hatchery was really neat to see, and the spring was stunning! We enjoyed watching the fisherman & seeing all the beautiful trout. We can’t wait to visit again!

**The water is not turned on in Loop 1 until April 15th.

Military Park Fort Leonard Wood Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area

limited to active or retired military or vets with service related disability

Beautiful campground, though Full hookup sites are on an unappealing parking lot. Sites with electric and water only are in nice oak woods overlooking Lake of the Ozarks. (Our site # J has a concrete stairway with 150 steps down to the water.) Tent sites are right on the water, with spectacular views. You can launch your own kayak or rent a motor boat to explore this gigantic lake. Free laundry facilities. Lean restrooms with nice shower. Very relaxed reservation procedure. We called and were told to just show up. They would hold a spot for us. It worked out fine.

        A nice place

Everyone was nice that worked there. Didn't have any problems with the people around us but we were in the family area. Now camping is free if you float with them and it does get crowded on the weekends. We did drive down to the water where the party camping is and was super packed. The Grub Bucket was really good but is only at the party area.

        Great place

Although this is adjacent to the Interstate exit (and therefore more noisy for a Sportsmobile tent camper), it was excellent and we’d stay there again. The cement pads, clean picnic table and immaculate bathrooms, with separate private showers, were welcome after a long travel day.

        You can’t go wrong.

        Unexpectedly great

Located right off the highway, I thought to pass it by. My mistake. Friendly staff held my registration from the road. Check in was quick and all my questions on local activites were answered cheerfully. The bathrooms, showers and laundry were immaculate. A true gem.

        Linn Creek Koa

        Great for just popping through.

Great place for a place to stay near the lake of the ozarks attractions. Super close to big surf and not a bad drive from all the lake has to offer. But not a favorite for a trip focused more on hanging out at the camp site. Very hilly (though grade on the site wasn’t bad at all), pull through sites make getting in easy with larger rigs but all roads through are gravel and rutted so not the easiest. Sites close together without much in between. Nice large trees would offer some summer shade but still not much separation between sites. Water and electric at site. Small “dog park” (fenced in area) great for smaller dogs to run off leash and pretty large kid okay ground too. Overall we will stay here again but think of it more as bringing our own hotel to the lake rather than coming to enjoy the campground.

        Excellent Time!

My son and I purchased two new travel trailers and campsite number two was perfect for getting our campers ready, including sanitizing our water tanks.

Although we did not fish, we thoroughly enjoyed our family hike up around the spring and watching all of the trout being caught.

It was a great family time and I am so blessed to have had this time together with my son, his lovely wife and our 3 year old granddaughter.

        Thank you Bennett Springs!

        Linn Creek Koa

        Not my favorite

The campsite had fine amenities that I would expect from a KOA: decent bathrooms, playground, basic pool. What I didn’t like was the gravel roads around the campsite were very washed out from rain, unlevel, and I was nervous we’d bust up the camper pulling it. Our specific site didn’t have a picnic table, it was very small, and had no shade. We were in spot #26.

It was overall ok. Quiet. I think I’ll try another campsite in the area next time.

      What to do:

      • Plan for Meals: Bring easy-to-cook meals or check if the campground has food options. A visitor at Hidden Valley Outfitters said, "The camp store is amazing. They have a full menu including pizza." Having food options can make meal times easier.

      Tips from RVers:

      • Check Hookups: Make sure the campground has the right hookups for your RV. A reviewer at Montauk State Park Campground noted, "The water right next to the site was taped up, probably turned off for winter." Always confirm availability before arriving.
      • Be Prepared for Limited Connectivity: Some campgrounds may have spotty cell service. A camper at Raccoon Ridge - Harry S Truman State Park mentioned, "T-Mobile service with 2-3 bars, no WIFI." Download maps and information before your trip.
      • Bring Extra Supplies: Stock up on essentials before heading to more remote campgrounds. A visitor at Bennett Spring State Park Campground said, "Firewood for sale $5 at entrance gate house." Having extra supplies can save you a trip to the store.
