Campgrounds near Grandview, Missouri offer access to fishing, hiking, and amusement park activities within a 30-minute drive radius. The area's varied terrain ranges from flat parking areas with concrete pads to sloped sites that require levelers. Most campgrounds in the region experience seasonal closures from November through March, with Peculiar Park Place being one of the few year-round options.
What to do
Explore historical landmarks: Visit Fort Osage National Historic Landmark near Blue Springs Lake Campground. "Beautiful Lake, with fishing, and boating. Rainy weather for the most part but did take time to go to the Fort Osage National Historic Landmark and Missouri Town which is part of the Jackson County Parks & Rec. Nice way to spend a rainy kind of day," writes Shirley M.
Visit amusement parks: Stay at Worlds of Fun Village for direct access to both Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. "The theme park offered discounted tickets when staying at the campground and parking for the parks was included. Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun are internally connected, making it easy to walk between the two," notes John L.
Hiking trails: Jackson County Fleming Park offers 27 hiking trails for various skill levels. "27 hiking trails, you can kayak, rent a pontoon, lots of sailboats on the lake, fishing. 30 minutes from downtown Kansas City," says Amy S.
What campers like
Private bathroom facilities: Many campers appreciate individual bathrooms at campgrounds. "The bathrooms are the nicest campground bathrooms I've ever used - large, clean, and not communal, so you get a sink, toilet, and shower all to yourself," writes Fawn W. about Lake Jacomo - Fleming Park.
Concrete pads: Level concrete sites make setup easier at certain campgrounds. "Both RV Life Trip Wizard navigation and GPS took us to Campground Rd where there were signs to the camping area. The site slopes to the passenger side and down hill to the road, so we used a few levelers. The premium cement pads seemed to be more level than gravel sites," reports MickandKarla W.
Pool access: "Super cute big facility. Built on a hillside adjacent to the amusement and water park. The camp ground pool is huge and fun for the kids on non park days. The campground is all paved and perfect for scooters and bikes for the kids," Jennifer H. says about Worlds of Fun Village.
What you should know
Site drainage issues: Some tent sites experience water problems during rain. "Not a great spot for tent camping. Ton of road noise and most grassy areas are sloped," notes Nicholas G. about Lake Jacomo - Fleming Park.
Security considerations: Some campgrounds offer better security than others. "You can't see the lake from the campground, and there was some road noise from morning commuters but overall it's a nice stop for a night or two. We felt very safe here since they require an access code to get into the gate," says Jessica C.
Road noise: Proximity to highways affects some campgrounds. "[Stadium RV Park] appeared that most of the occupants were full time. I would only stay here for a night as there appeared to be little nearby except the Stadium and the park was not very attractive," shares Charles F.
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: Choose sites near play areas when camping with children. "This was our first visit to this campground. The sites were well kept up, with many prime locations near the playground for our kids," says Chris W. about Blue Springs Campground.
Camp hosts: Staff can make a difference for family stays. "The whole experience was awesome. The entire place was spotless, the sites were far apart enough that you didn't feel like your neighbors were on top of you. Bathrooms were incredibly clean and the camp hosts or some of the nicest ones I've ever encountered! I think their names were Robin and Jim. 5 stars for sure!" writes NomadBrad D.
Site spacing: Look for campgrounds with adequate space between campsites. "The sites were well situated such that you felt you had plenty of privacy," according to Shirley M. who camped at Blue Springs Campground.
Tips from RVers
Dump station access: Large rigs should plan exit routes carefully. "As you exit the park, if you have a big rig, you'll want to stay to the left side of the dump station for a wider right turn out of the park," advises MickandKarla W. about Blue Springs Campground.
Site selection at pet-friendly camping near Grandview: "We enjoyed it here, but it snowed so we didn't explore the trails while we were there. Our internet worked great through Verizon and ATT, we never tried the park WiFi. Clean laundry facilities, pull through site was a little tight, but worked well," says Adam about Peculiar Park Place.
Check-in timing: Some campgrounds have overlapping check-in/check-out times. "It was a very lovely county park. We stayed for nights. The sites were well situated such that you felt you had plenty of privacy. The staff was nice but since entrance time and exit time are both 2:00 we had to wait for our spot to open which was difficult as we both needed to check in with our jobs," reports Shirley M.
