Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Golden, MO

Roaring River State Park Campground permits pets across all accommodation types, including tent sites, RV spots, and their cabin options. Each campground near Golden maintains its own pet policies while providing standard amenities like fire rings, picnic tables, and drinking water. The bathhouse facilities at most campgrounds are cleaned twice daily, though campers should bring their own hand soap as dispensers are not typically available. Most properties enforce standard leash requirements, and waste disposal is expected throughout the grounds. The established campgrounds in this region offer varying levels of privacy, with sites at Big M featuring large grassy areas and good spacing between neighbors.

Campgrounds along Table Rock Lake provide excellent water access points for dogs needing exercise and swimming opportunities. Most waterfront properties like Eagle Rock and Beaver RV Park feature dedicated swim areas, though these are often shared with other campers and day visitors. Wildlife encounters are common in this region of the Ozarks, so keeping dogs leashed helps prevent unwanted interactions with local fauna. The area experiences significant seasonal variations, with summer months bringing higher temperatures and increased black fly activity, particularly after periods of flooding. Nearby Eureka Springs provides veterinary services and pet supply options about 10-20 minutes from most campgrounds. Holiday Island Campground's shaded sites offer an excellent retreat from summer heat when camping with pets.

Branson Treehouse Cabin & RV Park

    Quiet, Centrally Located, Large Sites

We really enjoyed our stay here! It was the week after Labor Day and was mostly vacant, making for a quiet stay. Love the amenities for kids! The only reason I give 4 stars is the dog policy— it’s very strict, and there isn’t a dog park type area to let pets off leash to play & get energy out.

Sugar Camp Lookout Tower Dispersed Area

    Peaceful Retreat

My husband and I rented our first camper van to see if short trips meant to create memories are do-able in a camper van, for us. 1000% yes.

This was our first experience and got exactly what was described. The road was bumpy but we had zero problems with our 4x4 rig.

Sunsets and sunrises were stunning!!! Great fall retreat. We even met a stray cat we wish we could have taken home with us. Poor thing is starving. She will come if calls and purrs when petted. We named her “Sugar” after the location.

There seems to be a private off-road recreation area that provided moderate traffic. We were kind of tucked back a bit from the road and it didn’t bother us.

    Branson Lakeside RV Park

Great RV park right on the river

Great atmosphere and sooo close to the Branson landing for dinner/shopping but also right on the river for a great day on the boat. Just a bit down river from Lily’s Landing (bait shop and a fun stop in for the kids to grab a snack). Walking distance to a park with play ground and two separate dog park areas (one fenced one open). Definitely an “RV PARK” nothing secluded about it if that’s what you’re looking for... very close to neighboring site and even in off season it was packed full the weekend we went. The sites along the river side had great big fire pits too.

    Springfield - Route 66 KOA

    Great Service But Smaller Sites

Of all the KOAs I have visited I was very eager to check out this one.  Close to Springfield and not to far from the turn off to Wilson Creek Battlefield this one just kinda made sense for a visit.

When I ventured to check it out I quickly noticed that the site spacing was not the best when it came to the RVs, it looked claustrophobic.   When it came to the tent sites I felt a bit more like I could breathe and stretch out.   Kind of strange that this was the case as usually the RV section at a KOA is more accommodating, in my own personal experiences.

The staff was very friendly and helpful and the overall amenities were pretty inclusive.   Some of course obvious upgrades coming at additional charges while others were standard.

In true KOA fashion there is WIFI, which I personally always welcome because I work remotely and sometimes do not have the best of signal.    Additionally they had standard features such as a dog park area, playground for the kiddos and a pool, although the pool is not open year round like some.

A few things that were a bit less common however, they had a pet play room which was pretty cool and though I don't travel with my pets found it to be a very friendly touch.    I also noticed that in addition to snacks you could pick up in the store they also had pizza during certain times if you were not wanting to use your own kitchen or the common space camp kitchens.

I was pretty impressed overall but with all the good there were those claustrophobic rv sites I just couldn't get past and the pricing of a KOA always hurts the pockets a bit more even with them being nice and the common kitchen area I was attempting to use and had a few issues, this could have been just when I was visiting so I don't want to completely hold that against them but it was having issued.

    TIPS:

    * Visit Wilson's Creek Battlefield to explore, learn and hike.  When you come to this KOA it obviously does not have any hiking, but the battlefield offers a lengthy system of trails .* Bass Pro's home is Springfield, MO so you will not only find the largest Bass Pro there but also a unique museum of all animals which is quite spectacular.

Shady Oaks Campground & RV Park

    RARE FIND - Beautiful Park

RARE FIND Such a BEAUTIFUL place! I love all the oak trees and the sounds of nature are so relaxing. They offer a spacious dog park, which the dogs are currently playing at while I relax and take in nature. If you are looking for a small piece of nature where you can get way from it all but still be close to town, this place is it. Everyone here is friendly and the shared spaces are always very clean.

They offer great rates and a Military Discount too!!

    Enjoy your stay!

Guide to Golden

Camping options near Golden, Missouri include both lakefront and riverside sites within the Ozark region. The area around Table Rock Lake has multiple Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds at elevations between 700-900 feet. Summer temperatures typically reach 90-95°F, with spring and fall camping seasons offering milder conditions in the 70-80°F range.

What to do

Trout fishing access: Roaring River State Park Campground features a working trout fish hatchery where you can "walk the holding tanks and feed the trout from baby to ready to be released into the river," as noted by Wendy M. The park also has "a cave you can walk in where you'll find a pool of water that goes for miles underground."

Swimming in natural areas: Mill Creek Campground has "a great swimming spot with volleyball net," according to Angie W. Most sites at Mill Creek are waterfront, with campers noting it's "right on the water" and "beautiful" with "fantastic scenery with large spaces."

Mountain biking trails: The Farm Campground offers "amazing mountain bike trails" with "close to 29 miles of amazing trails to ride" according to Allen S. The property also features an 18-hole disc golf course and several art installations throughout its 160 acres.

What campers like

Lakeside campsites: At Dam Site Lake Campground, campers appreciate that "they really capitalize on as much lakeside camping as possible" with sites "literally 7 ft from the lake" that include "my own little pebbly beach," according to Jenna L. The island camping area is particularly popular when water levels permit.

Spacious, shaded sites: Lake Leatherwood City Park offers camping in what's known as "Shady Grove, which is down on the edge of the lake." Graham B. notes, "The campsite was built in the 1940s and still has that old feel to it. It's basic but efficient and clean."

Trout river accessibility: Dam Site River Campground receives high marks for its "great access to White River" with Stephen R. noting "the wife and I keep coming back year after year. There is trout fishing right along the grounds in the White River and the sites are well kept and beautiful."

What you should know

Campground selection tips: Baxter Campground offers "nice clean restrooms and showers" and is "close to Dogwood Canyon, a great blueberry farm and the famous Branson strip," according to Mike B. Consider that "some sites are a challenge to get set up in" as Fred V. notes.

Weather and noise considerations: Eagle Rock Campground, while scenic, has "traffic noise" that is "noticeable as is the boat launch traffic," according to Graham B. Sites 12-15 have "easy access to the water" but require "a fairly good trek up the hill to the toilets/showers."

Campground maintenance varies: Bathroom facilities at most campgrounds are cleaned regularly, but amenities differ significantly. At Eagle Rock, David P. notes "there's not even soap dispensers available" and some visitors report "grass had not been mowed in quite a while."

Tips for camping with families

Family-friendly activities: Wanderlust RV Park offers "a pool, shower house, laundry and meeting room" according to Allen S., who adds "the location is great as well, you can take the back road in to Eureka and by pass all the traffic to get downtown."

Kid-friendly swimming areas: Campbell Point has "a nice playground and beach, swim area that the kids loved to visit" as Hayley G. notes, adding the "whole place was very well maintained and clean" and has a "very relaxed and pretty quiet overall" vibe making it ideal for "older folks and families."

Educational opportunities: Roaring River State Park offers educational experiences with Jennifer O. noting there are "lots to do and see at the hatchery and play in the river." The park is "amazingly beautiful and great for kids" with opportunities for learning about fish conservation.

Tips from RVers

Site selection advice: Baxter Campground has several premium sites, but Michael V. advises tent campers that "the tent pad was really appreciated, just a little too close to the fire ring." When booking, check site specifications carefully as some are "fairly short, so be sure and check the length."

RV hookup details: Mill Creek offers electric and water hookups, with John R. noting he "would give it 5 stars if it had full hookups." Most Corps of Engineers campgrounds in the area provide electric and water but limited sewer connections.

Accessibility information: Campbell Point has sites that are "slightly hilly so most sites have retaining walls and multiple levels," according to Julia. Some campgrounds note that the dump station doesn't have "hook up spigot for black tank flush."
