Twin Eagle Lake Estates & Hideout

      Beautiful place-

This was our first trip together in our new camper. It was a little rough assessing the place thru the website but the reviews swayed us. There are walking paths all around and a beautiful lake /clubhouse area. Super people running the place and of course other campers were so helpful. We took our 2 dogs and would have loved a little more grass for their paws as the entire camping area is rough gravel. We’re hoping for a dog park in the future....? The lake has many easy entrances for swimmers near the club house - broad steps or large boulder for the more adventurous. Can be a bit slippery tho so bring your water shoes. Kids seemed to have little problem. Saturday night there was live music. Just a single guy with a guitar but great choice of music and great singing voice. Had a great 2 days. We plan to come back.

St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA

Good location for exploring St. Louis

This campground is fairly close to downtown and very close to lots of shopping. A great place to stay to stock up on supplies before heading west. We stayed 2 nights to have a day to visit the Gateway Arch. The pool and playground seemed nice even though we didn’t use them. Nice dog park for smaller dogs. Several cabins are available along with RV sites. The tent sites are next to a river under large trees. Plenty of spaces for big rigs. Our site was no very level but nothing our auto-leveling couldn’t handle.

      KOA in Eureka, MO

Nice, clean campground, level pull-through sites - ours had a paver-patio and grill, a lot of shade throughout, dog park, and a creek to explore. This was our 2nd time here. Close to Saint Louis, Six Flags, and hiking.

      St. Francois State Park Campground

      St. Francois

We had a beautiful campsite with soft grassy ground. We did have a mole or something burrowing around so you had to watch for loose dirt clods but that was NBD. The site had a picnic table and fire ring. There were pit toilets, no showers. Spigots throughout the area. Within walking distance of the river and trail access. Beautiful hiking on the bluffs above the river. The hosts were really friendly. There was also a very cute and very friendly kitty running around the area hunting grasshoppers. He hung out for some pets and cuddles then wandered off for some more adventure. I kind of want to be that cat. ^_^

      St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

      Convenient to St. Charles

Easy off I-370, campground is new and large. It is on a lake with bike trails, kayak rental, and kids splash pad. Staff were helpful. I received about 5 pieces of paper when checking in. You need a code to get into the dog park. Shopping nearby. Used this as a base to visit historic St Charles.

      Lazy Day Campground

      Best campground and hosts

Cleanest campground with all the amenities. The hosts are the owners and they are so nice and helpful. You follow them to your site and they deliver firewood if you paid for it. Sites are clean. There is a gated dog park. Everything above is at the campground. Our dog really liked the owner too.

Bike rentals along the Katy Trail: For travelers without bikes, rental options exist within walking distance of several campgrounds. "Forgot your bike? Walk 3 minutes away and rent one. Want to float the Missouri? They have a canoe outfitter on site," shares Annie C. about Beyond the Trail RV Park.

Missouri River floating: Several outfitters operate near Augusta offering kayak and canoe rentals for exploring the Missouri River. "Beautiful park with multiple terrains... trails are beautiful and perfect for families wanting to just come to a park for a day and hikers," reports Jake K. about St. Charles County Klondike Park.

Mountain biking for all skill levels: Technical mountain biking trails exist throughout the area. "One other really cool thing about Klondike is there are several technical mountain bike sections that are located in the park. Bring your mountain bike and have a go!" recommends Megan K.

    What campers like

Privacy levels vary by campsite: Some sites offer more seclusion than others. "Our site, 35, like its neighbor sites was small and pretty close to others. Other sites like #19 and 20 were more secluded, offered more trees and privacy," explains Shawn M. about St. Charles County Klondike Park.

Walking distance to local establishments: Several campgrounds offer easy access to nearby restaurants and attractions. "It is located in a sleepy little winery town. It is just a few minutes from the main part of town with multiple beautiful wineries within a few miles," shares Jamie C. about Beyond the Trail RV Park.

Evening views across fields: Campers appreciate sunset vistas from some locations. "Beautiful views across a large farm field (soy beans when we were here) to the hills beyond with incredible sunsets," notes Sam C. about Beyond the Trail RV Park.

Quiet weekday camping: Mid-week stays typically offer more solitude and space. "If you go during the week you can have the place pretty much to yourself. And the racoons. Just saying," warns Annie C. about Robertsville State Park.

    What you should know

Site selection matters for comfort: Terrain varies significantly between campsites. "You need to look carefully for a level tent site as some are fairly slopped. However, most of the tent sites have nice trees for hammocking," advises Annie C. about Robertsville State Park.

Weather concerns affect accessibility: Seasonal flooding can impact camping areas. "A few of the campsites will flood, not bad enough to get to your camper, but just enough to be annoying," notes Adam F. about Beyond the Trail RV Park.

Wildlife activity requires preparation: Secure food storage prevents unwanted visitors. "Make sure to store your food securely overnight - the racoons are pretty thick and hungry at night," warns Mike L. about St. Charles County Klondike Park.

Varying shower house conditions: Quality and cleanliness of facilities changes seasonally. "The shower house wash disappointingly dirty for as new as it was, but it was a busy holiday weekend," reports Annie C. about Klondike Park.

    Tips for camping with families

Tent site access varies by location: Some sites require carrying gear from parking areas. "Campsites are walk in, but a short walk. Some are more private and shaded than others," explains Shawn M. about St. Charles County Klondike Park.

    Tips from RVers

Site dimensions affect larger setups: Some locations accommodate larger vehicles better than others. "Alll the campsites are decently sized and looks like all of them will house 25' or bigger campers," reports Adam F. about Beyond the Trail RV Park.

Extension cords sometimes needed: Utility hookup positions can require additional equipment. "The site services, electric, water and sewer, are located to the front of the site and extensions were needed for both the electric and sewer," explains Craig H. about Beyond the Trail RV Park.

Internet connectivity varies: Wireless service strength fluctuates between campgrounds. "WIFI wasn't great when we stayed here twice last year. Office isn't always manned and they don't have much selection of the usual camping accessories," advises David E. about Beyond the Trail RV Park.

Dog-friendly campgrounds near Defiance maintain various restrictions: While most welcome pets, site regulations differ. "My wife's favorite.
