Best Campgrounds near Ocean Springs, MS

Camping spots near Ocean Springs include several options for people who want to sleep near the Gulf Coast. Dauphin Island Campground works well for families who want to be close to the beach, with many sites offering good shade. For those who prefer national park camping, Davis Bayou Campground in Gulf Islands National Seashore has well-kept sites and hiking paths nearby. You'll likely see wildlife in this area, so keep food secured properly to avoid unwanted visitors. Many of the camping areas have basic facilities, so bring what you need rather than counting on buying supplies there. Most campers avoid the summer heat and humidity by visiting in spring or fall when the weather feels much better. These shoulder seasons make outdoor activities more comfortable with milder temperatures. Some campsites sit closer together while others give you more space from neighbors. Trees cover many of the sites, which helps when the sun gets strong. Kids usually enjoy the nature trails and beach time available near most campgrounds. If you have specific dates in mind, book ahead—especially on weekends and during busy seasons when sites fill quickly. The Ocean Springs area has camping that suits both quiet beach days and more active outdoor trips.

    Santa Maria RV Park

Great RV Park - Very Easy Going

My family and I had a great experience at Santa Maria RV Park in Gautier, MS during our travel adventure around the Gulf. Pam at the main office is very easy to communicate with, and their RV hookups are in great condition. Pads can be rented with no maximum time limit. The pool is just the right size for parents and kids, and the security fence around the pool area made it really easy to keep an eye on everyone without any fuss. Highly recommend Santa Maria RV Park to anyone traveling around the Gulf shore and/or southern Mississippi.

    Buccaneer State Park Campground

It’s a great place for families

Beautiful park in a nice area. Lots of activities for the kids (in season) and plenty to do and see nearby. Waveland and Bay St Louis have lots of waterfront bars & eateries and there’s a casino nearby. Certainly more expensive than any state park we have stayed in - especially when the season has ended and the pool & water park are shut down.

    Creekside Farm Co.

    Great place!

I was the only camper there but sites are pretty spread out regardless. We had direct access to the creek. The bathroom, sink, grill, and shower were just a quick walk up the hill. Shower was cold water only but honestly so nice after a hot day. They have tons of vegetation to look at, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, and peacocks. There’s a small fishing pond too. You can follow the trail around the back of the pond and see the bunker and balcony. Will definitely be back! Only complaint is the ants were terrible! Idk where they kept coming from but definitely put up anything with food (even in tubs) up while not in use. Dogs are allowed but need to be on a lead. They have two dogs too, Mocha will come around to the campsites and creeks to say hi and want sticks to be thrown. Randy up there was super helpful too and good company. Everyone honestly was just so nice.

    Lake LaCroix RV Resort

    Unexpected paradise in the Bay

My daughter and I stayed for a little girls weekend getaway before she starts college. Never heard of this place but decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised with the park. The lake water is crystal clear with plenty of fish. Very peaceful here! We spent time at the natural playground, swimming in the beautiful pool, fishing and bicycling. The pool area is very nice with outdoor furniture, fire pits and loungers. Close location to the boat launch for easy access to the Jourdan River. Verizon cell service was very strong. The parks WiFi works great as well.

    Presley's Outing

    For the Locals

I stayed the entire month of June at Presley’s Outing with my parents (though I also grew up coming here). There’s a beach for day-use visitors and a separate one for long-term campers, which helps keep things a little more relaxed if you’re staying for a while. Entry is around $6/day for adults, and the monthly camping rate was about $750.

Campsites are very close together—at least where my parents were parked near the bathhouse—which made it feel a little cramped for us. There are definitely nicer, more spacious spots, but the campground was fully booked during the summer. I’m not sure if those spots cost more.

The bathhouse was decent (though warm in the June heat), and there’s a laundry facility onsite. Alcohol isn’t allowed, but there is a boat ramp where we launched our jet skis and boat with no issues. You can fish or head upriver, which adds some fun variety to the water access.

There are also a few bonus features—kayak and canoe rentals, golf cart-friendly paths, basketball and tennis courts, a volleyball net, grills and picnic tables throughout the day-use area, and even a little air pump station. They sell ice onsite, and there’s a small restaurant, though I’ve never eaten there and couldn’t say what’s on the menu.

Overall, it’s a decent spot for families or those with a nostalgic connection to the place. For us, the tight layout made it feel a bit too packed, and I’m not sure I’d rush back—but it’s got charm, convenience, and a solid list of amenities if that’s what you’re looking for.

    Leaf Wilderness Area

    Spots are along main road

You just drive and see very clear campsites along the main road. Due to it being public land, we did here shooting nearby, not fun.

If it weren't for the shooting, this would be a 5 star.

    Homestead RV Community

    Quiet and clean!

We enjoyed our stay here. The dog park is so big and our pups were able to really run around and get their energy out. The park itself is immaculately clean, the pool is beautiful, and the large oaks on the property give so much shade and add to the aesthetics of the environment. You can’t put anything in the grass so if you have a fence for your dog, it has to be set up on the concrete. The concrete pads are really large and make for easy leveling and give ample space to park 2 vehicles easily.

Guide to Ocean Springs

Camping near Ocean Springs, Mississippi offers options within 15-20 miles of town in Mississippi's coastal region. Most campgrounds sit at elevations below 30 feet, creating flat terrain with minimal hiking challenges. The Mississippi Sound moderates temperatures, keeping winter nights milder than inland areas but maintaining high humidity throughout the year.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Davis Bayou Campground at Gulf Islands National Seashore provides several fishing spots. "You can check out the gator alley area where you'll typically see at least one gator," notes Kaylin R. The campground connects to various water access points for anglers.

Disc golf courses: Shepard State Park Campground features a complete disc golf course among its recreation options. One camper mentioned, "When considering this place, you have to remember the location. It isn't the most convenient location to begin with.. my wife and I played disc golf there. It was also a decent course."

Beach proximity: Cajun RV Park puts you walking distance to Biloxi beaches. "You can walk a block to the beach, bring a wagon to haul your beach gear or drive as there is parking at the beach," explains Rick V. The location lets you enjoy Gulf waters without moving your vehicle.

What campers like

Well-maintained facilities: Campers appreciate the clean amenities at Gulf Beach RV Resort. One reviewer noted, "The facilities are clean and the location is close to the local attractions." Another mentioned, "My girlfriend was especially impressed with the showers, comparing them to luxury hotels."

Natural surroundings: The wooded areas provide welcome shade and wildlife viewing. "Lots of nature trails and outdoor exploring inside the campground," writes Anna B. about Davis Bayou. Another camper added, "There are plenty of walking trails, and you can check out the gator alley area where you'll typically see at least one gator."

Privacy between sites: Several campgrounds offer good site separation. At Shepard State Park, "Campsites are not on top of each other," according to Doug M. Another camper noted, "Camp sites are well spaced and private with some water fronting on the Pascagoula River."

What you should know

Train noise: Railroad tracks near some campgrounds create occasional disruptions. "There is a railroad nearby and it is quite loud in the evening," reports Joseph S. at Davis Bayou Campground. Plan accordingly if you're sensitive to noise.

Limited amenities: Many parks have basic facilities only. "No wifi, no laundry but clean bathrooms and shower. Electric and water at the campsites and a dump station is available," notes Doug D. about Davis Bayou.

Reservation requirements: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially during peak seasons. "Reserve early," advises Doug D. Most campgrounds use recreation.gov or their own reservation systems.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Look for campgrounds with playground facilities and easy water access. "Safe area for kids, adults, and pets. You're guaranteed to see some pretty cool wildlife and sunsets!" writes Kaylin R. about Davis Bayou.

Splash pads nearby: Keesler AFB FamCamp offers family conveniences. "This campground is located outside the gates and next door to a beautiful park that has fishing, disc golf, and a splash pad playground for the kids," notes Mi W. This setup works well for families with children needing to burn energy.

Go-kart options: Some campgrounds have entertainment options nearby. "It's a great spot if you want to walk to the beach or cruise down the strip. Everyone in town was friendly to us," reports J M. about Gulf Beach RV Resort. Cajun RV Park has "go-kart park next door until 10:00 pm" according to Donnita Dawn D.

Tips from RVers

Site spacing considerations: Deer Island Dispersed Camping offers unique solitude options. "When the pandemic hit, I hit the road. Drove south to Biloxi, parked, hopped in my kayak, and paddled to Deer Island. It's less than a half-mile off the coast, but far enough away to be left alone," shares Sami H.

Hookup variations: Check specific site amenities before booking. "Water and electric are included," notes Joseph S. about Davis Bayou. Another RVer shared, "Great location. Staffs are friendly and helpful. The RV sites are well mark."

Big rig access: Some parks accommodate larger vehicles better than others. "Spots are close together with really no place to park tow vehicle without sticking out in the road," warns Rick V. about one park. For alternatives, Majestic Oaks RV Resort has "plenty of space" according to Sam G.
