    Fish Lake Acres Campground

    Quiet, Lake Views

This campground is great especially when compared with state park camping. Full hookups available, quite a few pull through lots and close to the twin cities! No wifi, so make sure you've got decent cell service and hotspot if you need internet/wifi. Verizon gets ok coverage here, T-Mobile does too. Showers/bathhouses are clean and the hot water runs forever and not coin operated or push button like some others I've been to! Bonus! Good toilet paper in the bathrooms not the cheap stuff. The lake is literally out your door and they do have a small swimming beach and boat launch. MN Horse and Hunt club is about a mile or so up a trail access that is Almosy directly across from the camp entrance. There is an ATM there along with a bar and restaurant. Be prepared to hear gunshots regularly but it's not really bothersome unless you aren't prepared for it. The trail to the club is safe to walk though. The campground ONLY accepts cash so be sure to hit the ATM before you get here. They also charge $2 extra per dog if you have them. Nightly rate for the full hookup site I had was $32 with the dog. They charge .50 c per log for firewood. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. The staff are really nice and laid back. It's a really nice little campground!

    Ham Lake Resort

Well Rounded RV Park and Campground

My partner and I scheduled a 3 day / 2 night stay in a new Vintage Cruiser RV for $39.99, in exchange for attending a presentation on private membership.

We checked in Wednesday evening, and the nicest staff I've ever met helped us acclimate to RV living. We are new to this game. They patiently described how to utilize the grey and black water tanks, as well as encouraged us to check-out the canoes, row boats, bikes, horseshoes, ladder golf and many other entertainment items - for FREE!

The map provided was accurate which made locating the cruiser a breeze. There were further instructions inside as well. The RV was immaculate. Provided for our use were all linens (a public very clean bath and shower was just across the road), dish soap, dish towels, paper towels, flat wear, plates, bowls, mugs and pans.

The campground has a couple of ponds, as well as access to Ham Lake where the watercraft is launched. There is a petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama who gave my partner the stink eye, but fell in love with me rubbing the fence and giving me all googly eyes!

The clubhouse sells bundled wood, ice, snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and provides 24-hour fresh coffee. There is also a small resupply area, and gift shop.

There are pull-through sites, back ups, 50 and 30 amp hook ups, and tent sites, covered pavilions, picnic tables and fire pits.

The campground itself seems remote, secluded and peaceful, however, you are conveniently located to two well-stocked convenience stores, as well as Wal-Mart about 15 minutes away. It's also only about 45 minutes from the Minnesota Twin Cities.

One note: We visited in August and needed gallons of bug spray.

We very much enjoyed our get away!

    Ann Lake

    Rustic & Family Friendly

This is a great little rustic campground within an hour's drive of the Twin Cities! It has several potable water sources throughout the campground, but no running water for toilets or showers. There are several vault toilets. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. You can buy firewood & ice at the Sand Dunes Stop gas station, just a 10 minutes drive away.

This is a first-come, first-served campground, so no reservations required. This does mean that there is a chance you won't be able to get a site, but I've only had that happen one time when I got there at 6pm on a Saturday. There are usually sites available.

I love going to this campground - it's family friendly, and there is a swimming beach a quick 3 minute drive away! The hiking trails aren't half bad, either! I love coming here to relax for a weekend, spend some time at the beach, and just enjoy nature. If you go in the early to mid summer, you'll also hear local whip-poor-wills serenade you to sleep.

Overall, 4 stars. The only downsides are no running water and no ice & firewood at the campground itself.

    Spirit of Ripley

    Small and family owned

Nice large grass pads, easily accessible for big rigs! Close to the lake(mom and I went for some bike rides around the lake) and public boat access. Each site had a picnic table and a fire ring provided. All sites have power, water, and sewer hook ups.

    Lebanon Hills Regional Park

    Friendly staff & quiet

Great location for easy access to mountain bike trails. Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Nice trail within the campground. Some sites are more shaded than others in the east loop so look at photos if you want shade. Sites that back up to the green space are very sunny. 87 is a great site! Plenty of space for a trailer or tent with a private “nook” for the fire pit.

    Lake Elmo County Park Reserve

    Great for the kiddos

For a County Park, Lake Elmo has an impressive list of amenities. Before we even get to the campsite let's mention the filtered swimming pond. This man made pond is a sandy bottom and surrounded by a nice sand beach. Large built in umbrellas are available for sun coverage and there is a concession stand and bathrooms with showers. And yes, as I mentioned the water is filtered! No gross goose poop or green algae to deal with! Next to the swim pond is a giant playground with fun for the big and little kids. Other amenities include archery, horse trails, paved and grass trails, camper spots, rustic spots and hike in camping spots. In winter the xc ski trails are lit for evening skiing. Or let's be honest early afternoon. It is Minnesota and the suns down by 4 In the Winter! They also have a newer Nordic center that's open all year round and includes a locker room with showers. The hike in camp spot we chose was on a small lake so it had a nice breeze and made it easy to bring a kayak or paddleboard and hop right in. There is also a boat launch for your larger toys! The trails in the park are quite impressive for its size. We enjoyed a 5 mile loop off the Nordic center and right past the camp spot. A picnic table and fire pit as well as nice flat tent pad were provided. If you're coming in from out of town then you're just a 5 minute drive from Woodbury and all the amenities you'd ever need but the park feels miles away from it all.

    Masonic West River Park

    Riverfront!!

Amazing campsite! Sites are large and grassy! We had a lakeview site right off the paved walking/biking trail with room for a large tent and the pop-up camper. Fire ring and picnic table provided. A man drives through the campsite close to dusk to sell firewood as there is no traditional office. Bathrooms and showers are located near the dump station and dumpster. Be on the lookout for the code for the doors during your reservation process. We had missed it and had to ask a neighbor if they knew the codes so we could shower.

Guide to St. Michael

Camping options near St. Michael, Minnesota provide seasonal alternatives throughout the year, with most parks closing between October and May. The area features a mix of sandy soil at riverside campgrounds and clay soil at inland locations, affecting drainage during wet weather. Most campgrounds in the region maintain moderate tree cover, providing partial shade without complete sun protection.

What to do

River recreation: Country Camping Tent & RV Park offers tubing on the Rum River with shuttle service. "Nice campground with amenities, pool and water play area for kids. Nice on-site store for any needs. Ability to go tubing down the river," notes Barbara B. The river has a clean, sandy bottom according to David G., who adds, "The river is very clean and sandy bottom."

Mini golf and games: St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park features a 9-hole mini golf course, shuffleboard, and indoor games. "This a nice family campground. It has a 9 hole mini golf, shuffleboard, salt water pool, and a lobby/gift shop. They also offer a nice seating area for those hot or raining days with free arcade," reports S L.

Swimming options: Multiple campgrounds offer swimming amenities when weather permits. "Pool was small but nice. Splash pad was even nice for adults," shares David G. about Country Camping. At Baker Campground, "There are 2 swimming beaches: 1 for the campground and one for all of the day visitors. You can rent canoes, paddle boats and SUP boards," according to Jennifer H.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many rv campgrounds near St. Michael, Minnesota offer larger-than-average campsites. "HUGE sites! You can either relax in the pool or even take a ride down the rum river in a rented canoe, tube, or kayak," explains Spencer C. from Country Camping. At Baker Campground, Jennifer H. notes, "The sites are fairly large, but very open."

Clean facilities: St. Cloud Campground & RV Park maintains well-kept shower facilities. "This campground is well maintained. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The shower house was clean," shares Jody M. Similarly at Baker Campground, "The bathroom/showers are great," according to Bryan S.

It has a heated pool, splash pad area, BIG playground area, indoor game room," according to Spencer C.

What you should know

WiFi limitations: Several campgrounds struggle with reliable internet access. At St. Cloud Campground & RV Park, Dave P. reports, "Host stated that the wifi was weak but since there were not a lot of campers we should be alright. We were unable to even get a signal!" Similarly, Tina notes, "It was the worst wifi of about 15 campgrounds we've been to on our trip this year."

Noise considerations: Campground quiet hours vary across the region. "Twice I ran into the same group of people that thought it was ok to open up their vehicle doors and blast music well into the night. Owner warned them the first time but quiet time isn't until 11 pm," shares Barbara B. at Country Camping RV Park.

Seasonal rates: Pricing at St. Michael area RV campgrounds increases during peak season. At Codgers Cover RV Resort, Jake J. notes, "$80 daily for non-seasonal," while another visitor comments, "Expensive and Crowded, $70 minimum." Some campgrounds add pet fees, with prices typically between $2-5 per night for dogs.

Tips for camping with families

"I stayed here 3 weeks ago with my wife and 2 young children and it was fantastic great playground and heated pool the spaces were well kept and spaced apart," reports Beasty B., adding there was "a ton for the kids to do!"

Rental equipment: Several campgrounds provide equipment rentals for family activities. At Baker Park, Jennifer H. mentions, "You can rent canoes, paddle boats and SUP boards, and many people bring their own boats." Country Camping offers "Golf cart rentals! Our grandkids love it too!" according to Carol H.

Multi-generational options: St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park accommodates different camping styles in one location. "We have a pop up so we parked on a grassy spot next to the cabins that backed up to a field. It was nice to be there instead of in the thick of the big camper section," shares Teresa O. "Pool was nice and store too."

Tips from RVers

Overnight options: Love's RV Hookup in Rockville offers convenient overnight parking with electrical hookups. "Good pit stop. Still open in the winter! Convenient location right off I94 and HWY 23. At Country Camping, Spencer C. notes the campground "has 30amp and 50amp hook ups and has pull through spots and sewer sites," adding that "Max trailer length that I've seen here is 70'. Anyone can fit in here!"

Electric reliability: During peak summer heat, power capacity can be strained at some rv parks around St. Michael. One visitor at St. Cloud Campground mentioned, "We could not log in to WiFi or access TV and for us that wasn't a big issue. But the office did say when the park is full that can sometimes be an issue for WiFi."
