Best RV Parks & Resorts near Golden Valley, MN

RV parks around the Minneapolis-St. Paul area accommodate various motorhome sizes, with Dakota Meadows RV Park in Prior Lake featuring level concrete pads with full hookups. Town & Country Campground in Savage offers year-round operation with electric, sewer and water hookups for travelers needing winter accommodations. Lebanon Hills Regional Park provides full hookup RV sites that are typically less wooded than their tent camping areas but offer convenient access to Twin Cities attractions. Baker Park Reserve in Medina maintains gravel RV pads with electric and water connections, operating seasonally from April through October. "Sites are a little close with little to no privacy in most. Reservation system is weird and the sites are much bigger than they say. All RV sites are the listed length plus 16' for your tow vehicle."

Reservations are essential when planning visits to RV parks in the region, particularly for summer weekends and fall color season. Most developed campgrounds provide 50-amp electrical service and big rig access, though older parks may have tighter turning radiuses and narrower roads. Cell service varies by location but generally remains reliable throughout the metro area campgrounds. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, weekend availability at Lebanon Hills can be extremely limited, requiring bookings months in advance. Shower facilities at many parks require access cards, with Dakota Meadows implementing a $5 card deposit system with $3 returned at checkout. Pet-friendly policies are standard across most RV parks, but proximity to casinos, highways, and power lines affects noise levels at several locations.

    Fish Lake Acres Campground

    Quiet, Lake Views

This campground is great especially when compared with state park camping. Full hookups available, quite a few pull through lots and close to the twin cities! No wifi, so make sure you've got decent cell service and hotspot if you need internet/wifi. Verizon gets ok coverage here, T-Mobile does too. Showers/bathhouses are clean and the hot water runs forever and not coin operated or push button like some others I've been to! Bonus! Good toilet paper in the bathrooms not the cheap stuff. The lake is literally out your door and they do have a small swimming beach and boat launch. MN Horse and Hunt club is about a mile or so up a trail access that is Almosy directly across from the camp entrance. There is an ATM there along with a bar and restaurant. Be prepared to hear gunshots regularly but it's not really bothersome unless you aren't prepared for it. The trail to the club is safe to walk though. The campground ONLY accepts cash so be sure to hit the ATM before you get here. They also charge $2 extra per dog if you have them. Nightly rate for the full hookup site I had was $32 with the dog. They charge .50 c per log for firewood. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. The staff are really nice and laid back. It's a really nice little campground!

    Ham Lake Resort

Well Rounded RV Park and Campground

My partner and I scheduled a 3 day / 2 night stay in a new Vintage Cruiser RV for $39.99, in exchange for attending a presentation on private membership.

We checked in Wednesday evening, and the nicest staff I've ever met helped us acclimate to RV living. We are new to this game. They patiently described how to utilize the grey and black water tanks, as well as encouraged us to check-out the canoes, row boats, bikes, horseshoes, ladder golf and many other entertainment items - for FREE!

The map provided was accurate which made locating the cruiser a breeze. There were further instructions inside as well. The RV was immaculate. Provided for our use were all linens (a public very clean bath and shower was just across the road), dish soap, dish towels, paper towels, flat wear, plates, bowls, mugs and pans.

The campground has a couple of ponds, as well as access to Ham Lake where the watercraft is launched. There is a petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama who gave my partner the stink eye, but fell in love with me rubbing the fence and giving me all googly eyes!

The clubhouse sells bundled wood, ice, snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and provides 24-hour fresh coffee. There is also a small resupply area, and gift shop.

There are pull-through sites, back ups, 50 and 30 amp hook ups, and tent sites, covered pavilions, picnic tables and fire pits.

The campground itself seems remote, secluded and peaceful, however, you are conveniently located to two well-stocked convenience stores, as well as Wal-Mart about 15 minutes away. It's also only about 45 minutes from the Minnesota Twin Cities.

One note: We visited in August and needed gallons of bug spray.

We very much enjoyed our get away!

    Ann Lake

    Rustic & Family Friendly

This is a great little rustic campground within an hour's drive of the Twin Cities! It has several potable water sources throughout the campground, but no running water for toilets or showers. There are several vault toilets. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. You can buy firewood & ice at the Sand Dunes Stop gas station, just a 10 minutes drive away.

This is a first-come, first-served campground, so no reservations required. This does mean that there is a chance you won't be able to get a site, but I've only had that happen one time when I got there at 6pm on a Saturday. There are usually sites available.

I love going to this campground - it's family friendly, and there is a swimming beach a quick 3 minute drive away! The hiking trails aren't half bad, either! I love coming here to relax for a weekend, spend some time at the beach, and just enjoy nature. If you go in the early to mid summer, you'll also hear local whip-poor-wills serenade you to sleep.

Overall, 4 stars. The only downsides are no running water and no ice & firewood at the campground itself.

    Lebanon Hills Regional Park

    Friendly staff & quiet

Great location for easy access to mountain bike trails. Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Nice trail within the campground. Some sites are more shaded than others in the east loop so look at photos if you want shade. Sites that back up to the green space are very sunny. 87 is a great site! Plenty of space for a trailer or tent with a private “nook” for the fire pit.

    Lake Elmo County Park Reserve

    Great for the kiddos

For a County Park, Lake Elmo has an impressive list of amenities. Before we even get to the campsite let's mention the filtered swimming pond. This man made pond is a sandy bottom and surrounded by a nice sand beach. Large built in umbrellas are available for sun coverage and there is a concession stand and bathrooms with showers. And yes, as I mentioned the water is filtered! No gross goose poop or green algae to deal with! Next to the swim pond is a giant playground with fun for the big and little kids. Other amenities include archery, horse trails, paved and grass trails, camper spots, rustic spots and hike in camping spots. In winter the xc ski trails are lit for evening skiing. Or let's be honest early afternoon. It is Minnesota and the suns down by 4 In the Winter! They also have a newer Nordic center that's open all year round and includes a locker room with showers. The hike in camp spot we chose was on a small lake so it had a nice breeze and made it easy to bring a kayak or paddleboard and hop right in. There is also a boat launch for your larger toys! The trails in the park are quite impressive for its size. We enjoyed a 5 mile loop off the Nordic center and right past the camp spot. A picnic table and fire pit as well as nice flat tent pad were provided. If you're coming in from out of town then you're just a 5 minute drive from Woodbury and all the amenities you'd ever need but the park feels miles away from it all.

    Tresure Island RV Park

    It’s a parking lot…

We are here for a show at the casino and thought it would be fun to bring the camper down and glamp for the weekend. It is just a parking lot but the sites are all pull through and there is plenty of room between sites and ours was perfectly level.

We have dogs so the fact that it’s all asphalt and rock is a bit of a bummer but we are close to the exercise area and they do love little walks. It also seems to be controlling some of the normal bad pet parent behavior we see at even parks. Like letting the dogs run with out leashes or tethering them all day to bark at everything.

The sites do not have fire rings but there are some community ones and it appears the other campers brought their own smokeless fire pits to use.

There is a shuttle to the casino and at 7pm folks seemed to clear out to head over. It was honestly one of the quietest campgrounds we’ve been to on a Friday night.

The bath house is newer and super clean- not a single creepy spider web in any corners.

On Verizon I have full bars so we haven’t tried the park WiFi but we’ve been able to use our chrome cast and two iPads off my cell phone with zero issues. Because it’s in a river valley the air tv single is terrible so we are glad to have the chrome cast with us- since the forecast called for a raining day.

    Minneapolis Northwest KOA

    Good Campground but Close Sites

Sites are close to each other, but easy access, clean grounds and facilities, friendly staff, and a K9 fenced area for a pet friendly campground.

    Tresure Island RV Park

    No frills, well-maintained, and clean

This is a typical casino parking lot RV "park" with full hookups. It is basically a parking lot with mostly pull through sites. The last row consists of "deluxe" back-in sites with a few trees. That being said, it is well maintained, the sites are level, the park was clean, and the utilities were in good working order. It was quite and easy to get in and out of. The shower house was adequate as well. We would stay here again. We camped at Treasure Island RV Park in a Motorhome.

Guide to Golden Valley

Campgrounds near Golden Valley, Minnesota offer RV sites with varying seasonal availability throughout the Twin Cities metro area. Situated in Hennepin County at approximately 935 feet elevation, Golden Valley experiences humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters. The camping season typically runs April through October with some locations remaining open year-round.

What to do

River tubing and canoeing: Country Camping RV Park on the Rum River provides tube, canoe and kayak rentals with shuttle service. "Great tubing and canoeing," notes Rory T., while David G. adds, "Key thing is the river is very clean and sandy bottom."

Biking trails: Baker Campground at Baker Park Reserve offers paved trails around multiple lakes. "There is a nice 6+mile biking trail that connects to others, so bring the bikes," advises Jennifer H. The park includes extensive trail networks for cyclists of all skill levels.

Fishing opportunities: Cleary Lake Regional Park provides shoreline fishing access with catch-and-release options. "Only caught a few catfish and bass there but still a great view fishing," reports Teresa O. The park maintains a fishing pier with regular fish stocking.

Mini-golf and games: St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park features a 9-hole mini-golf course and indoor recreation area. "It has a 9 hole mini golf, shuffleboard, salt water pool, and a lobby/gift shop. They also offer a nice seating area for those hot or raining days with free arcade," according to S L.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River offers larger-than-standard campsites. "HUGE sites! You can either relax in the pool or even take a ride down the rum river in a rented canoe, tube, or kayak," says Spencer C., while Beasty B. confirms sites are "well kept and spaced apart."

Clean facilities: Campgrounds maintain above-average bathroom and shower facilities. "Amazing bathroom/Showers. Quiet, lots of flies, good spot overall," reports Truly W. about Cleary Lake Regional Park.

Family amenities: Pools, splash pads and playgrounds are common at RV parks around Golden Valley. "Heated pool, splash pad area, BIG playground area, indoor game room," lists Spencer C., while Aaron L. notes, "The birds are singing and so are the kids because this place has so much to do for them."

Privacy options: Cleary Lake Regional Park provides secluded camping spots. "I really like the hike in sites. Short walk from the car and right by the water yet spaced nicely for privacy," writes Jeff C. The park's walk-in sites offer a wilderness feel despite proximity to vehicles.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Weekend availability can be extremely limited during peak season. "We lucked out and were able to stay 2 nights without reservations...only had to move because they were fully booked for the 4th," explains Beth B. about Dakotah Meadows RV Park.

Noise considerations: Traffic and facility noise varies by campground location. "We heard a lot of traffic coming and going well into the wee hours of the night," notes Michelle A. Highway proximity impacts sound levels at several parks.

Facility access cards: Many parks utilize card systems for amenity access. "Shower rooms and Laundry room require hotel card entry. Cards are $5 with $3 returned at check-out," explains James and Susan K.

Gate closure enforcement: Parks strictly enforce closing times. "Word to the wise, gates ACTUALLY close at 10pm, there's no way to contact anyone and I had to walk about a mile in parked outside the gate," warns Lance L.

Tips for camping with families

Water activities: Choose campgrounds with dedicated swimming areas. "The kids enjoyed the compact playground and pool," mentions Jennifer H. about Town & Country Campground, while others note the value of splash pads for younger children.

Playground access: Most family-oriented RV parks near Golden Valley maintain play structures. "Great playground and heated pool the spaces were well kept and spaced apart 10-10 would most definitely go again! A ton for the kids to do!" enthuses Beasty B.

Group camping options: Cleary Point group camp at Cleary Lake accommodates larger family gatherings. "We always stay at the Cleary point group camp and we love it... The camp is great though, 4 or 5 hookups and a private dock and the whole site is private and on a little point so the lake is surrounding you," shares Teresa O.

Game rooms: Indoor recreation spaces provide rainy-day alternatives. "This a nice family campground. It has a 9 hole mini golf, shuffleboard, salt water pool, and a lobby/gift shop. They also offer a nice seating area for those hot or raining days with free arcade," notes S L.

Tips from RVers

Concrete pads: Look for parks with level, stable parking surfaces. "This is a really nice campground with cement parking pads with full hookups. The grass around the lots is very green, lush and well maintained," reports Jim M.

Power limitations: Peak season usage can strain electrical systems. "Had one issue with power dropping so we had to pull the surge protector off then it was fine. Also very hot and humid so everyone was running AC to the max," notes David G.

RV wash stations: Some parks provide cleaning facilities. "There is fuel on site as well as RV wash station," mentions Beth B., which saves time locating external services.

Site length accuracy: Verify actual measurements when booking. "This place does have 30amp and 50amp hook ups and has pull through spots and sewer sites... Max trailer length that I've seen here is 70'. Anyone can fit in here!" advises Spencer C.
