Several RV parks within 30 miles of Andover provide full hookup options for recreational vehicles. Country Camping RV Park in Isanti operates from May 1 to October 1 with 50-amp electrical service, sewer connections, and water hookups for larger vehicles. "Large sites. Great tubing and canoeing," noted one camper about the nearby Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River, which features similar amenities plus big-rig accessibility. Ham Lake Resort, located just east of Andover, remains open from May through November with 122 sites equipped with full hookups and accommodations for larger motorhomes. St. Cloud Campground & RV Park, situated about 40 minutes northwest, offers electric, sewer, and water connections with boat access.

RV travelers should note varying reservation requirements throughout the region. Most parks fill quickly during summer weekends and fall color season, making advance bookings essential. According to one visitor, the concrete patios at RiversEdge RV Park provide stable setups for larger rigs. Dump stations are available at most facilities, including Baker Campground which operates from late April through October. Pet policies vary between properties, with most allowing leashed animals in designated areas. Several parks provide seasonal amenities such as swimming pools, game rooms, and camp stores, though these typically close by mid-October. Driving conditions remain favorable for larger vehicles on main access roads, though some campground interior roads may require careful navigation.

      Fish Lake Acres Campground

      Quiet, Lake Views

This campground is great especially when compared with state park camping. Full hookups available, quite a few pull through lots and close to the twin cities! No wifi, so make sure you've got decent cell service and hotspot if you need internet/wifi. Verizon gets ok coverage here, T-Mobile does too. Showers/bathhouses are clean and the hot water runs forever and not coin operated or push button like some others I've been to! Bonus! Good toilet paper in the bathrooms not the cheap stuff. The lake is literally out your door and they do have a small swimming beach and boat launch. MN Horse and Hunt club is about a mile or so up a trail access that is Almosy directly across from the camp entrance. There is an ATM there along with a bar and restaurant. Be prepared to hear gunshots regularly but it's not really bothersome unless you aren't prepared for it. The trail to the club is safe to walk though. The campground ONLY accepts cash so be sure to hit the ATM before you get here. They also charge $2 extra per dog if you have them. Nightly rate for the full hookup site I had was $32 with the dog. They charge .50 c per log for firewood. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. The staff are really nice and laid back. It's a really nice little campground!

      Ham Lake Resort

Well Rounded RV Park and Campground

My partner and I scheduled a 3 day / 2 night stay in a new Vintage Cruiser RV for $39.99, in exchange for attending a presentation on private membership.

We checked in Wednesday evening, and the nicest staff I've ever met helped us acclimate to RV living. We are new to this game. They patiently described how to utilize the grey and black water tanks, as well as encouraged us to check-out the canoes, row boats, bikes, horseshoes, ladder golf and many other entertainment items - for FREE!

The map provided was accurate which made locating the cruiser a breeze. There were further instructions inside as well. The RV was immaculate. Provided for our use were all linens (a public very clean bath and shower was just across the road), dish soap, dish towels, paper towels, flat wear, plates, bowls, mugs and pans.

The campground has a couple of ponds, as well as access to Ham Lake where the watercraft is launched. There is a petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama who gave my partner the stink eye, but fell in love with me rubbing the fence and giving me all googly eyes!

The clubhouse sells bundled wood, ice, snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and provides 24-hour fresh coffee. There is also a small resupply area, and gift shop.

There are pull-through sites, back ups, 50 and 30 amp hook ups, and tent sites, covered pavilions, picnic tables and fire pits.

The campground itself seems remote, secluded and peaceful, however, you are conveniently located to two well-stocked convenience stores, as well as Wal-Mart about 15 minutes away. It's also only about 45 minutes from the Minnesota Twin Cities.

One note: We visited in August and needed gallons of bug spray.

We very much enjoyed our get away!

Ann Lake Campground — Sand Dunes State Forest

      Rustic & Family Friendly

This is a great little rustic campground within an hour's drive of the Twin Cities! It has several potable water sources throughout the campground, but no running water for toilets or showers. There are several vault toilets. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. You can buy firewood & ice at the Sand Dunes Stop gas station, just a 10 minutes drive away.

This is a first-come, first-served campground, so no reservations required. This does mean that there is a chance you won't be able to get a site, but I've only had that happen one time when I got there at 6pm on a Saturday. There are usually sites available.

I love going to this campground - it's family friendly, and there is a swimming beach a quick 3 minute drive away! The hiking trails aren't half bad, either! I love coming here to relax for a weekend, spend some time at the beach, and just enjoy nature. If you go in the early to mid summer, you'll also hear local whip-poor-wills serenade you to sleep.

Overall, 4 stars. The only downsides are no running water and no ice & firewood at the campground itself.

      Lebanon Hills Regional Park

      Friendly staff & quiet

Great location for easy access to mountain bike trails. Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Nice trail within the campground. Some sites are more shaded than others in the east loop so look at photos if you want shade. Sites that back up to the green space are very sunny. 87 is a great site! Plenty of space for a trailer or tent with a private “nook” for the fire pit.

      Lake Elmo County Park Reserve

      Great for the kiddos

For a County Park, Lake Elmo has an impressive list of amenities. Before we even get to the campsite let's mention the filtered swimming pond. This man made pond is a sandy bottom and surrounded by a nice sand beach. Large built in umbrellas are available for sun coverage and there is a concession stand and bathrooms with showers. And yes, as I mentioned the water is filtered! No gross goose poop or green algae to deal with! Next to the swim pond is a giant playground with fun for the big and little kids. Other amenities include archery, horse trails, paved and grass trails, camper spots, rustic spots and hike in camping spots. In winter the xc ski trails are lit for evening skiing. Or let's be honest early afternoon. It is Minnesota and the suns down by 4 In the Winter! They also have a newer Nordic center that's open all year round and includes a locker room with showers. The hike in camp spot we chose was on a small lake so it had a nice breeze and made it easy to bring a kayak or paddleboard and hop right in. There is also a boat launch for your larger toys! The trails in the park are quite impressive for its size. We enjoyed a 5 mile loop off the Nordic center and right past the camp spot. A picnic table and fire pit as well as nice flat tent pad were provided. If you're coming in from out of town then you're just a 5 minute drive from Woodbury and all the amenities you'd ever need but the park feels miles away from it all.

      Wildwood RV Park & Campground

      Nice smaller park

Visiting family in the area and got a spot here. Spaces are snug, not big rig friendly, but overall a nice park. Power and water hookups, and dump station. Little pricey at $80/night but it’s in a great area.

      Dakotah Meadows RV Park

      Nice modern campground

Many pull through sites available - most of which you pull through to face another site - great if you are camping with friends and want to share the area. Full hook up sites at a reasonable rate. Secure shower/bathhouses and a large play park for kids. There is an RV wash station and fuel pumps on-site. Shuttle bus comes through the camp if you want to go to the casino and play- it’s also within walking distance.

    Guide to Andover

Campgrounds near Andover, Minnesota center around the Rum River watershed, with sites at elevations between 850-920 feet above sea level in the mixed hardwood forest region. Summer temperatures average 78-83°F with moderate humidity, while spring and fall camping seasons experience significant temperature swings from 40-70°F. Most campgrounds in this area maintain seasonal operations from late April through mid-October due to Minnesota's northern climate conditions.

    What to do

Tubing and water recreation: The Rum River provides popular recreational activities at Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River. "The tubing is a plus... Key thing is the river is very clean and sandy bottom," notes camper David G. The park offers equipment rentals for river activities, with organized shuttle service during summer months.

Mini golf and games: Family-friendly activities abound at St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park, located about 40 minutes northwest of Andover. "It has a 9 hole mini golf, shuffleboard, salt water pool, and a lobby/gift shop. They also offer a nice seating area for those hot or raining days with free arcade," according to reviewer S L. The campground maintains these amenities from May through mid-October.

Nature trails and wildlife: Baker Campground offers extensive outdoor recreation with six miles of paved biking trails connecting to regional networks. "Spent a lot of my childhood playing and exploring this park! I love birding here as well," shares Alison O. The campground's location next to Lake Independence provides opportunities for spotting local wildlife including waterfowl, deer, and small mammals.

    What campers like

Spacious, well-maintained sites: Campers consistently praise the roominess of sites at Country Camping RV Park. "Love this place. Close to the Twin Cities, right on the Rum River. Great tent sites right on the river," reports Tom D. The park's layout provides adequate separation between camping areas with mature trees throughout.

Family-oriented amenities: Cokato Lake RV Resort receives positive feedback for its comprehensive facilities. According to Rachel H., the resort features an "Inground, heated swimming pool; mini golf; pickleball; tennis; arcade room attached to the office. Ice cream shop has 8 flavors of hand-dipped yum!" These amenities make it suitable for extended family stays during the summer season.

Clean facilities: Campground cleanliness ranks high in visitor satisfaction. At Baker Campground, Bryan S. notes, "The sites are good sized, and the bathroom/showers are great. With great fishing, playground, swimming, and biking trails very nearby, the kids were kept as busy as they wanted to be." Most campgrounds in the area maintain similar cleanliness standards for bathrooms, showers, and common areas.

    What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds in the Andover area operate on limited schedules. Baker Campground runs from April 30 to October 20, which aligns with the typical camping season in this region. Sites fill quickly during peak times, especially weekends from June through August.

Varying reservation policies: RV parks operate with different booking requirements. Mississippi Riverwood RV Park has specific rental conditions that require careful attention. One reviewer cautions, "If you do NOT stay the entire amount of time you have paid for, you may lose the right to return to your site, even if your lease says the lot is still yours." Always review the complete reservation terms before booking.

Privacy considerations: Many sites offer limited seclusion. As Bryan S. mentions about Baker Campground, "The sites are about as private as the typical state park, so not very, but that is offset by all the other positives this campground has to offer." Campers seeking isolation should research specific site numbers or request recommendations when booking.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Ham Lake Resort offers excellent family amenities. According to Kristin C., "The campground itself seems remote, secluded and peaceful" and includes activities like a "petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama." Families with young children benefit from these structured activities.

Swimming options: Several campgrounds feature swimming facilities. At Cokato Lake RV Resort, Alan V. notes it's a "Great resort with outstanding amenities (Heated pool, lake with beach, boat launch area just block away, tennis/pickle ball, mini golf, resort store with ice cream, goat park, paved roads and much more)!" Swimming areas typically operate from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Bug preparation: Minnesota's summer months bring mosquitoes, particularly near water features. Kristin C. advises about Ham Lake Resort, "We visited in August and needed gallons of bug spray." Families should pack insect repellent, lightweight long-sleeved clothing, and consider screened tents for outdoor dining areas.

    Tips from RVers

Electric reliability: Some rv sites near Andover, Minnesota report occasional power issues during peak usage. At Country Camping Tent & RV Park, David G. mentions, "Had one issue with power dropping so we had to pull the surge protector off then it was fine. Also very hot and humid so everyone was running AC to the max." RVers should bring surge protectors when camping during hot periods.

Site surfaces: RV campgrounds around Andover feature various parking surfaces. At RiversEdge RV Park, Tori K. appreciates the "Concrete Patios on every lot" and "Crushed granite streets and drives." These stable surfaces provide easier leveling for larger recreational vehicles.

Quick stopover options: For travelers passing through the Andover region, Love's RV Hookup offers convenient overnight parking. "I love that Love's has RV spots that are big rig friendly! These are a great option for a stop halfway through a trip," says Tori K. The location provides basic services including electric hookups, bathrooms, and nearby dining options.
