Pontiac Lake Recreation Area
Private camping
Very private sites. I was surprised at how well each site was hidden from the others. Restrooms can be a bit far from some sites. Nice little dog park by the beach too.

"Right off Lake Michigan. Great trails for easy bike riding. Helpful, friendly staff"
"Lakeport is one of the hidden gems in Michigan. We all have heard that you can find Petoskey Stones in Northern Michigan, well.... look no further!!!!!"
"They do have a little amusement park right next door so that can help entertain the young ones for a while and we did appreciate the dog park."
"This is probably the best campground in Michigan. Lots of activities to do. Swimming pools, bicycles for rent, playgrounds, pizza, children's train, etc."
"The drive is short and there are plenty of amenities to keep the kiddos busy all day."
"We will definitely come back when it is warm enough to swim in the lake!"
"We stayed a couple nights. but were gone all day at some family functions close by. It was a good set up for us. Staff was friendly and helpful."
"I've stayed all over michigan, and this is one of the best. Your right close to the water, so you can watch the ships. I was very comfortable here, and I had my dog."
"Great campground with access to the beautiful St. Clair River as it runs between Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair."

"We showed up fresh off the road from AZ starting a new life here in the great state of Michigan. Two gentlemen met us right at the entrance they seemed to be doing work around the area."
"You drive up the entrance of the park, and on your right there'll be a trailer with a sign that says parking. You will park your car there over night/during the day."
"The beach is nice, a little small, but clean and fun (would be nice if your pets were allowed to swim also). The only real negative I have is that for each group site there is a single fire pit."
"The park has a beautiful 2.5 mile trail around the lake that makes this campground great. We brought our own kayaks but they do rent boats. We saw deer and rabbit."

Great opportunities for winter sports. Pools, lakes, mini golf. Designed for young families. Pet friendly but has restrictions on the type of dog.
This is a quiet, friendly and family campground. The staff is very willing to help any way they can. The sites are level and spacious.
A great place for the kids! With a beach, playground and paved roads is nice but the frosting in this cake is the petting zoo. Animals from bunnies, peacocks & cats to horses, goats and of course Milton the burro, get it? Milton Burro, LOL
The store has stuff for the kids at very reasonable prices and the ice cream shop across the street is a nice walk after dinner. There's a light there for safe crossing, too.
Try this place, you'll add this to your good memories.
No credit or debit cards. Cash and checks only.
If you like this type of camping then this theme park camping is for you. It's right in town with sparse trees and very small sites. Make sure to mark the max allowed occupancy to be camping because, if you don't, you will be charged extra cash for your child to spend the day with you while spending money on their amenities. They do have a little amusement park right next door so that can help entertain the young ones for a while and we did appreciate the dog park. It's not a horrible place as we did enjoy ourselves the first visit there. The campsite we had was in the back, between 2 cabins, and that one was actually a decent size. The 2nd trip was a bummer as we were reprimanded for having my girlfriends daughter show up and have breakfast with us. Which, by the way, we bought from the and she shopped in their souvenir store and purchased items. We had to pay another $5 so we could spend that extra money at their campground. Other than that, enjoy.
A fun little campground with a nice bunch of petting zoo type animals! The beach is clean and the lake is warm! Very nice layout with walking trail around the lake. The only complaint was not nearly enough trash cans around (like, none easy to find) and the bathrooms were nasty for our 2 day visit. Price per night for full hook up was $40 :-)
Level sites with full hookup. Catch and release fishing pond. Nice little swimming area. Nice playground. Cute little petting zoo. Stayed for a week at $320.
Holly Rec is huge and there is so much you can do. Camping is pretty secluded. Lots and lots of hiking available , pets allowed which is awesome, disc golfing , lakes for great kayaking and there is a wonderful beach! Something for everyone! you can get away here , and take a much needed break from real life.
We came here two years ago. My husband suggested the place because his family used to come here when he was a kid. There were many activities for everyone to do, especially for the kids. I don’t believe the cabins are pet friendly though. It’s probably the only reason we haven’t been back. We’ll definitely go back when we have a camper.
We go here every year with friends and the staff is so nice. The spots are big and well maintained. The biggest drawback is the enormous amounts of mosquitos and ticks in the sites. Every night we had to triple check each other and our pets for ticks. We found at least 1a night on us. Last trip I came home with over 30 mosquito bites.
Camping areas near Goodells sit within St. Clair County's gently rolling terrain that averages 600-650 feet above sea level. The region features a humid continental climate with warm summers and cold winters, creating distinct camping seasons from May through October when most facilities operate. Campgrounds typically experience temperature fluctuations between 45-85°F during peak camping season, with higher humidity levels due to proximity to Lake Huron and the Black River watershed.
Rock hunting along Lake Huron: The shoreline at Lakeport State Park Campground offers excellent rock collecting opportunities. "I have found the most beautiful Petoskey Stones at Lakeport. I have also found a large pudding stone. My husband brings his chair down to the water and I walk the short shore hours and hours looking for rocks," writes Stephanie C.
Wildlife viewing in forested settings: Set up at quieter campgrounds with natural surroundings to maximize wildlife encounters. "We have only ever stayed in the south section, but we always ride our bikes to the north second. The south section has more of a woodsy outdoor feel while the north section has more of an open space," notes Stephanie C. about Lakeport State Park.
Water recreation on small inland lakes: Emmett KOA provides access to a fishing lake where dogs can enjoy swimming in designated areas. "Beach is big and clean. Fishing is great!" shares Chelsea, who visits regularly with her family.
Family-focused activities: Port Huron KOA organizes regular scheduled events for children. "There is a movie theater, old one room schoolhouse, camp store, pools, number boats and putt putt. Lots of car traffic and roads are stone not paved," explains Melissa B.
Riverside camping: Ruby Campground in Avoca offers a tranquil setting along a river. "Ruby is a fitting name for this gem. This is the most wholesome cute campground I've ever been to. It has a family owned summer camp vibe and the owners are very kind and helpful," notes Sean H., who appreciated the grounds being "right on a river."
Spacious sites with privacy: Many campers prefer locations with adequate spacing between sites. "Site #18 I felt was spacious and not too close to the people next to us and trees behind us. We had privacy and it was quiet," writes Karen C. about her stay at Addison Oaks County Park.
Campground sections have different atmospheres: At Lakeport State Park, the camping areas have distinct personalities. "The northern section seems to be the louder section and the southern section seems to be the more laid back quiet section. The north section has more of an open space, smaller lots, crowded feel," explains one camper who prefers the quieter south section.
Beach conditions vary significantly: Rocky shorelines are common in the area. "The beach is mostly rocks and I have to say that I have found the most Petoskey stones and pudding stones," notes a Lakeport visitor. Another camper recommends: "The beach was rocky so don't forget to pack some water shoes."
Off-season limitations: Algonac State Park Campground reduces services outside peak season. "Since this is well beyond normal camping season here in Michigan we understand staffing levels are going to be low but they still charge the same price regardless of that. The newer, cleaner, and nicer facilities were closed up for the season," reports Rodger M.
Halloween weekends: Many area campgrounds offer special Halloween activities. "We come for Halloween camping every year! We love this campground. There is a ton to do for all ages. The kids keep busy all day long!" writes Wendy K. about Port Huron KOA.
Swimming options for children: Consider locations with clean swimming areas. At Emmett KOA, one reviewer noted, "Beach is big and clean. Fishing is great! This is our favorite campground! On the smaller side but perfect for our small family."
Rock painting activities: Some parks have community rock painting traditions. "Check out the pile of painted rocks people place there, as it's always getting new ones," recommends Noel S. about Lakeport State Park, adding that the "beach is awesome" despite some rocks near the water's edge.
Road conditions within campgrounds: P.L. Graham Park & Campground has minimal RV accommodations but offers tent camping with riverside access. "You drive up the entrance of the park, and on your right there'll be a trailer with a sign that says parking. You will park your car there overnight/during the day. But you can drive up close to the campsite for you to unload your car," explains a visitor who rated it highly.
RV pad surfaces: Port Huron Township RV Park offers pet-friendly camping with water and electric hookups in a quieter setting. Sites in some campgrounds like Addison Oaks feature concrete pads, with one camper noting, "Cement pads, water, and electric. Loop C is spacious with some trees."
Dump station access: Be aware of campground dump station layouts. "The dump station is at the north campground and to get to it, you have to enter the north campground and drive all the way through it, come back out, and then go to the dump station! It is the weirdest set up ever," warns a Lakeport State Park visitor.
