Reservations are typically required at established campgrounds throughout the area, especially during peak summer months when facilities reach capacity. "Very nice state park. The bath house was clean. Not a lot to do at the park. The lake is beautiful and the trail around the lake is nice," noted one visitor about Codorus State Park. Seasonal operation varies by location, with many campgrounds like Codorus operating from April through October or early November. The region experiences four distinct seasons with humid summers and cold winters, making spring and fall particularly popular for camping. Most campgrounds in the area maintain well-maintained access roads suitable for standard vehicles, though larger RVs may want to verify site accessibility before booking at some locations.

One camper highlighted that "The sites were the biggest we've seen in our 20 plus years of camping. We had so much room for our kids and dogs to play." While swimming is prohibited in some lakes, many campgrounds offer swimming pools as alternatives during summer months. Bathroom facilities generally receive positive reviews for cleanliness and maintenance. Wooded sites provide ample shade at many locations, though some campgrounds feature a mix of wooded and open sites. Family-friendly amenities like playgrounds, nature centers, and hiking trails complement the camping experience at most developed facilities in the region.

      Otter Creek Campground

Lovely tranquil campsites next to river

We stayed only one night in primitive tent site which was massive with a turnaround. It was great. There are fire pits and picnic tables and level ground. Very serene. We walked down to the river, breathtaking. Not sure of other amenities as we didn’t use them.

      Gettysburg

      Cranky

Frome the moment you drive up the women at the gate is about as welcoming ( as my Pops would say ) "A fart in church.," Great way to start your vacation. Didn't get much better in the office. The one guy that worked there did at least smile at us....

      Riverfront Campground

      Disgusting

      Where do I start?

We came to this campground to connect with family who was hiking the AT. We left after one miserable night. Here are some reasons:

A giant confederate flag near the entrance

Highway noise and not one but two train tracks

      One Filthy “bathroom”

No shade at our campsite- despite other available sites with some shade

A trail of poison ivy on the narrow path to the river

      Cigarette butts everywhere

And a creepy man on a bike who declared he was a local and wouldn’t leave our site while I was alone and insisted on talking to me about the strip club down the street, where to buy condoms and how my tent’s mesh shelf is perfect for drying out my wet panties.

      Riverfront Campground

      Trashy

We called ahead of time to reserve two sites for two nights for a bunch of people from out of state and some hikers from the AT. They said it was $35 per site per night. When we arrived we were told that we had to pay for three nights because it was a holiday weekend AND that the price was per tent. The porta potties were gross and hadn’t been serviced in a while. It was difficult to use them. During a heat wave we were given a site with little shade when several sites further along with plenty of trees were empty. The plumbed bathroom was dirty and had no soap. The shop did not in fact sell love bait, which cramped our fishing style. There is a loud rail road with constant trains on one side and a very busy highway with loud trucks on the other. The river front was lovely, but with detritus from previous campers on the rocks. We left after one night.

      Washington DC / Capitol KOA

      Good location

Nice campground, maintained very well and clean. Laundry room and Propane fill on site so that was nice. RV Site was fairly level and easy to get into. Some sites are a bit close together and not long enough to keep your tow vehicle hooked up. A bit inconvenient if you’re only there for 1 night.

      Elk Neck State Park Campground

      Good experience

Great campsite, plenty of space. It rained a lot and our campsite was a little muddy (not bad) but nearby campsites had large puddles

      Gettysburg Campground

      Great Location in Gettysburg

We spent 4 nights at Gettysburg Campground to attend the AIM Club Rally(Lincoln’s Legacy- Gettysburg 250), and it served as base camp for the event.

      WHAT I LIKED:

      • Location, Location, Location: This park is an absolute winner for convenience—just 5 minutes from the Gettysburg battlefields, museums, and the heart of town.

      • The Atmosphere: The staff gave us a warm reception at check-in, and the site itself was clean, well-maintained, and spacious enough to back up to a running creek. Lots of mature trees offer lots of shade and character.

      • Big-Rig Friendly: Navigating a 45-foot motorhome with a toad can sometimes be stressful, but this park was easy to maneuver.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

      • Late-Night Power Struggles: On our final night, the campground experienced grid strain. Our Hughes Watchdog Power Center saved the day—but it had to shut off our power 7 different times due to low voltage. Aside from losing a few hours of sleep to the chorus of appliances cycling off and on, no harm was done. I recommend using a surge protector/voltage regulator if you stay here.

      WOULD WE COME BACK?

      • Absolutely! Minor power hiccups aside, this is a beautiful, clean park situated right in the middle of everything you'd want to see and do in the area.

    Guide to Lineboro

Camping sites near Lineboro, Maryland lie within the Piedmont region at elevations ranging from 500-800 feet, where wooded landscapes and rolling hills create natural boundaries between campsites. The region's four distinct seasons influence camping options, with spring generally bringing muddy conditions after snowmelt and fall offering colorful foliage against cooler temperatures. Most campgrounds in this area sit within a 25-mile radius of Gettysburg's historic battlefields.

    What to do

Hiking trails around lakes: The 8.5-mile Lakeside Trail at Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground offers views from multiple angles around the water. "I took an early morning hike on the 8.5 mile Lakeside Trail that goes around the lake and it was really awesome to see the lake from all different angles," one visitor noted.

Visit working farms: Farm animal interactions provide unique camping experiences within a short drive from Lineboro. "We came amidst COVID-19, so the many activities and events this location usually holds are down, BUT there is still fun to be had here! We've enjoyed mini-golf, feeding the animals, 'hiking' through the cornfield, fishing, and campfires," shared a camper who visited Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm.

Historical tours: Many Lineboro-area campgrounds serve as gateways to Civil War history. "Behind the campsite we stayed at, we learned connected to Stangler Farm, which served as a hospital for the wounded. Literally right outside the entrance of the campgrounds is where the battlefield starts," reported one visitor to Artillery Ridge Campground.

    What campers like

Lakefront camping: Waterfront sites remain popular options for tent campers seeking proximity to fishing spots. "We had site 108 which is an electric site along the shore and close to the beach, and it was perfect for our needs. It has a small beach area within the campground loop that we camped in," mentioned a camper at Gifford Pinchot State Park.

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds in the area maintain well-rated bathroom facilities. "The bathhouses were in good shape. Sites were of ample size and well spaced," noted a visitor to Gettysburg, while another camper mentioned, "Bathrooms were in good shape. The sites were the biggest we've seen in our 20 plus years of camping."

Family activities: Scheduled events provide additional entertainment options beyond natural features. "During the summer they have different themed weekends and fun activities for the whole family. In the fall they have Halloween weekends. Their pool is fantastic and so is the playground for the kids," described a long-term member at Gettysburg.

    What you should know

Site selection matters: Not all sites offer equal privacy or convenience. "We were in the primitive tent loop which is right on the lake. It can get a little busy on the weekends since there is a boat launch at the end of the primitive lane, but some of the sites are secluded/set back enough to be private," explained a camper at Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground.

Seasonal variations: Most campgrounds near Lineboro operate on limited schedules. "We stayed in October so there was plenty of activities for kids from crafts, games, dancing, to trick or treating. The resort ensured safety for the kids during trick or treating and closed all vehicle traffic for 2 hours," shared a visitor describing fall camping at Gettysburg.

Swimming restrictions: Rules about swimming vary by location. "There is no swimming allowed in the lake but there is a pool located at the park, there is no extra cost to use the pool if you are at the campground," pointed out a reviewer at Gifford Pinchot. Many campgrounds substitute swimming pools for lake swimming.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground proximity: Select sites near play areas for convenience with young children. "We had site 114. It has water access and is right next to a small man-made beach and playground," noted a family that stayed at Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground.

First-time camping spots: Several locations cater specifically to novice campers with supportive amenities. "We took our 3-year-old camping for the first time here. He had so much fun. It was clean campground located in a State Park. Easy walk to the lake with a small beach," shared a parent about their experience at Drummer Boy Camping Resort.

Animal experiences: Farm settings provide educational opportunities for children. "What's better than hanging out camping on a working farm? Perfect campground for the family. Got a kick out of the children playing with the kids (baby goats), pigs, goats, chickens, horses and even llamas. Plenty to see and learn," mentioned a visitor to Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm.

    Tips from RVers

Leveling considerations: Some sites require additional equipment for proper setup. "Make sure to bring your leveling blocks, some sites do have a slope to them of 3-4 inches," advised a member at Gettysburg Battlefield KOA.

Site sizing: RV length restrictions vary by campground. "We had a full hook-up with our 15ft travel trailer. Pretty tight even with my Tacoma," reported one RVer about Gettysburg Battlefield KOA, while another visitor to a different campground noted, "The sites were the biggest we've seen in our 20 plus years of camping."

Utility placement: Some campgrounds have unusual hookup configurations. "The biggest complaint about our site was that the sewer hookup was inconveniently placed about six inches above the ground which meant that it would not drain properly (even with a slinky placed under it)," mentioned an RVer at Drummer Boy Camping Resort.
