Plenty to see, no bugs, no mosquitoes..some biting flies if you go into the lily pad areas."

What you should know
Reservation timing matters: For cabins in popular areas like Cape Henlopen State Park Campground, advance planning is essential. "We visited off season (early April) and absolutely loved it. The location was great and the beaches are quiet. I hear it gets packed and I see that it's hard to book if you don't book early."
Insect preparation: The wetland areas around many cabins can harbor mosquitoes during warm months. "Ranger said the flies can be really bad in the summer but early and late season are great."
Weather conditions: Coastal cabins can experience significant wind. "The winds were nuts and over 50mph. We switched sites to spare our slide side, so caution to look at windy before going."
Limited cell service: Some rural cabin locations have spotty connectivity. "Verizon cell coverage was poor."
Cabin amenities vary significantly: Check what's included before booking. "Cabins have eclectic, heat, beds, and some have AC (though not #32 & 33)."
Tips for camping with families
Consider timing for pool access: Many cabin locations with pools operate seasonally. "This has been one of my favorite camp grounds this summer. Loved the hiking trail (Bob Trail). It can also be used for biking. Our dogs loved the hike."
Look for free activities: Some locations like Sun Outdoors Frontier Town include complimentary recreation options. "You can enjoy free mini golf, free pool and waterside, free canoeing, and free billiards. It is about 20 min to ocean city but they have a free bus to take you to ocean."
Choose cabins with playgrounds nearby: Many families appreciate sites with immediate access to play areas. "Highly recommend our site to anyone with littles as you can literally relax at your site while your child plays at the playground!"
Pack for mixed weather: The coastal climate can change quickly. "We tent camp but there are RV sites and cabins as well. There is an arcade, camp store, heated pool, playground, dog park, and mini golfing!"
Tips from RVers
Pad leveling at sites: Some cabins and RV sites at Shad Landing Campground have challenging terrain. "It had rained just before getting there. A few sites were flooded but most were okay. We stayed on Acorn loop. The bath house was nice and staff were awesome."
Space limitations: Larger rigs face challenges at some cabin campgrounds. "The roads around campground are narrow with large trees lining the road. A big rig would have difficulty parking if not on a specific site. Most sites are gravel pad with electric. Would strongly suggest only tents, pop ups and travel trailers under 30'."
Seasonal rate differences: Prices for cabin and RV sites fluctuate significantly. "After the in-season fee and lock site fee...our nightly overall cost was $145...I will stay again next year if we attend the music festival."
Check site utilities: Not all sites offer full hookups. "30 amp service available on Acorn Trail and Deer Run. Now water or sewer hookups but there is a dump station at park entrance with a water fillup spot."
