Best RV Parks & Resorts near Wilmore, KY

RV parks near Wilmore accommodate a range of motorhome types with varying amenities and hookup options. Cummins Ferry RV Park offers full hookups with both 30/50-amp service on sites overlooking the Kentucky River, while Camp Nelson RV Park provides similar electrical connections with riverfront positioning. "We used our normal 2x green blocks for the Jack, but needed all 10 of our leveling blocks, plus 8 paving stones to get the appropriate height," noted one camper about Cummins Ferry's uneven terrain. Whispering Hills RV Park in Georgetown features big rig-friendly sites with 50-amp connections, and Taylorsville Lake State Park Campground maintains seasonal availability from April through mid-December with pull-through sites suitable for larger motorhomes.

Most parks in this region maintain gated entry systems and operate year-round, though seasonal flooding can affect riverfront sites at Kentucky River campgrounds. Cell service varies significantly between locations, with Cummins Ferry experiencing particularly poor reception on major carriers. Dump stations are available at most parks, though not all sites offer sewer hookups at the pad. Pet policies generally allow dogs throughout the campgrounds, but designated dog exercise areas are limited. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, weekends often feature organized activities at several parks, with Cummins Ferry hosting "live music and food trucks every Saturday." Navigation to some riverfront properties involves narrow access roads that may challenge drivers of larger motorhomes during inclement weather.

    Still Waters Campground

    Wonderfully beautiful, peaceful, and friendly

This campground is located at the mouth of the Elkhorn Creek and Kentucky River. It is extremely popular among locals who want to sit in an tube float and float down the creek to the Kentucky River, a trip that takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. Note you have to bring your own tube. Nearly all of the campsites are spacious and have grass. You can park next to your campsite. The campground is very clean, full of trees and shade, and the lawn is well manicured. On weekends you can find campers playing corn hole and karaoke. Food trucks occasionally set up on weekends. Due to the location, only Verizon and Visible cell phone users have service. There is no local Internet. There are two dump stations for RVs. There is also a hiking trail to the top of a nearby mountain. The view of the Kentucky river is magical. The office is open Wednesday thru Sunday. Use of ground mats are frowned upon as they kill the grass at the campsite but are tolerated for long term campers. They have assorted types of camping sites, including: primitive, water and electric, and full hookup. They also offer daily, weekly, weekend, seasonal, and monthly rates. The public restrooms have no heat and are closed when the weather gets cold.

Cummins Ferry RV Park, Campground on the Kentucky River

Great park next to the river

This is a small well maintained campground right on the Kentucky river. It is down in a hollow which makes it secluded and quiet. There is a dock and a boat ramp. The customer service is exceptional. Under new management since November, they are making some very nice upgrades. 30/50 amp full hook ups with a number of pull throughs. The sites next to the river are level and easy to back into. There is a pavilion and a pool. It is about 30 minutes from Lexington and about 8 miles to the closest town. The one lane road coming in might give you the willies but it is worth it. They have 5 WiFi connections making this some of the best campground WiFi I have ever had. This is a lovely spot with nice amenities.

    Cummings ferry campground

Small park restrooms and showers. Very clean. Nice pool. Camp store offers basics. Fairly close to shopping groceries etc. staff was friendly 30/50 amp service didn’t count the number of river view sites. But quite a few. Some sites have 20 X 12 elevated decks. Full hook ups. Pet friendly. Was very quiet the week we stayed. Didn’t feel like bringing the camper home so payed for another week and drive back the following week. Cell service. Isn’t the best WiFi was available if I remember. Correctly rates were reasonable

    Still Waters Campground

Great for long term or seasonal

Lots of run down RV’s and shanty town in the back of the park. More long term renters than weekend warriors. One dump station, no sewage on the sites. One bathroom, for the whole Park. lots of tents sites (that were busy) makes for poor bathrooms. Not to mention its outhouse style with no climate control. 1/3 men’s bathrooms were out of order and 1/3 urinals were too. 2/3 showers where out of order and the two useable toilets, the door locks were broken. No wifi. Fires are allowed. Fire pits are run down so be mindful. 2/5 bars for ATT services. Sites aren’t labeled or labeled extremely bad. Electrical seems very out dated. Make sure you have protection. Over priced at $60 + tax for the night. Scattered shade. Pull through sites mainly. Picnic tables have seen better days (years more like it). Good space between sites and access to the river for water sports. Little lake for fishing. No pet area and strict leash laws. I wanna give this a 2/5 because they were pleasant. They encouraged me to review on multiple sites but I think that would be bad for them so I’ll stick to my main review site. 1/5, if the price was better like 30-40/night maybe 2/5 but for the price of a motel 6 and only electrical and that is sketchy. Save your money book elsewhere or avoid.

    Pioneer Playhouse Campground

This is all about the theater...not the camping

This place has some fascinating history and a unique outdoor summer stock theater experience. The oldest outdoor theater in Kentucky with 5 productions running through the summer months. Definitely a good time and casual dining evening with stories of many famous faces that have graced the stage: John Travolta, Lee Majors, Jim Varney...to name a few. The campground has 35 sites with little elbow room; all have electric(30 amp) and water, gravel/grass pads, shower facilities and bathrooms, and they do have a"rustic" dump station. Many of the sites seem to have long term tenants...so this is best for a one night stop and a show. The town of Danville has what you need for supplies and dining, loads of historical sites in the area and of course there is a Bourbon Distillery that must make the list of activities. pioneerplayhouse.com/visit-us/campground/

    LockRidge Park

    A Diamond in the Rough

This is a true gem and one not to be missed. Unfortunately, our stay was limited to one night, however, we will definitely be returning to take advantage of the many amenities included. Full hookups, laundry, bath house, general store, tastefully designed accommodations, activities, and even an outdoor theatre; everything you need for an enjoyable long-term stay. The Site was quite large and accommodated our 24 ft rig and truck, and FH, which were very clean and well placed. Our site also provided partial shade, which in the warmer months would be very beneficial. Not to mention, the beautiful views with a lovely trail and lookout over Dix River that runs behind the property. Management/Owners were incredibly hospitable and friendly. We loved our overnight stay at Lockridge, it was quiet, peaceful, and absolutely beautiful. We camped at LockRidge Park in a Travel Trailer.

*TIP ~ Dix River runs behind the property, nearby there is a marina, waterfalls, trout fishing, and many other recreational activities. This venue also hosts events and has Harvest Host accommodations.

    Lake Shelby Campground

    Small and quiet

Came here in our 40’ class A. Very weird at first as the sites are 20 feet long, but they allow front ends to stick out. Very nice park on a lake. All new electrical and water, all sites have 50 amp despite the website stating only 30 amps as recent update. Nice showers, regular campground showers. Good wifi, cable and cell service. Good for a night or two.

Cummins Ferry RV Park, Campground on the Kentucky River

    Heaven!

We had the most amazing time and actually ended up extending our stay here because of how lovely this spot is. Secluded and tucked away along the river. Very clean sites, both back-in and pull-through. Full hookups. They have live music and a food truck on Saturdays. Entry is by card-swipe only, so very safe. Peaceful spot without much noise. Little trail along the river to walk.

    Three Springs Campground

    Nice quiet clean place

Quiet lil place clean showers and bathrooms extremely friendly staff who will go out of their way to help you set up. (Was offered hoses and power cords if needed). I stayed in 4A and leveled with ease . It’s a back In Only but they are there with you to guide. Dog friendly which is a big bonus. Has some on site cats too. We are 36 class A but had many different sites available and some great looking primitive sites as well. We will be back to relax and get back to nature.

What to do

**Fishing access: At Elkhorn Creek RV Park, guests can fish directly from the campground. "Waterfront sites available, many concrete sites & some gravel sites. From what I hear, they have made many improvements and continue to do so," notes Amanda W. The park sits on Elkhorn Creek with boating access nearby.

**Hiking trails: Three Springs Campground provides natural trails through wooded areas for day hikes. "It has 3 beautiful hiking trails. It has a small fishing pond with a beautiful fountain that provides a neat camping experience," according to park management. The trails are suitable for beginner hikers and families.

**Swimming options: Whispering Hills RV Park features a pool with small water slide for summer recreation. "Swimming pool with small water slide, fishing pond, jumping pillow, events at picnic shelter. Campground is very busy. Lots of people coming and going," reports Mathew H. The pool typically closes at 8 p.m., earlier than some campers prefer.

What campers like

**Weekend entertainment: Three Springs Campground and RV Park offers a peaceful setting with weekend activities. "Very quiet campground in a beautiful place surrounded by trees very friendly personal. Not far from the Ark endounter," writes Susanne W. The property sits on wooded acres with multiple streams.

**Family amenities: Whispering Hills RV Park receives praise for its family-friendly features. "The grass is mowed regularly and everything looks neat and tidy," notes Jill B. Families appreciate the jumping pillow, playground equipment, and organized weekend activities.

**Peaceful locations: Camp on the Kentucky (formerly Non-Such Campground) offers tranquil riverfront camping. "Very nice little family ran campground. Small with limited amount of sites. However, beautiful view of the river and the owners have that down to earth southern hospitality," reports Gem S. The campground features a lodge area with pool tables and a fireplace.

What you should know

**Cell service: Connectivity varies significantly between locations, especially in river valleys. "They have 5 WiFi connections making this some of the best campground WiFi I have ever had," says Stacey about Cummins Ferry RV Park, contrasting with poor cell reception at some facilities.

**Site levelness: Many campgrounds in the area require leveling equipment. "The sites here are not level," notes one reviewer about riverfront properties. Three Springs Campground campers report: "Sites are not particularly level. Gravelled roads and pads surrounded by forest with three small streams cutting through."

**Seasonal operations: Availability varies by season, with some parks limiting operations during winter months. Chimney Rock Campground operates from April 1 to October 31. "It's clean! It's on the water. It's pretty. But not very many sites to campers. A lot of permanent sites," notes Raeanna L.

Tips for camping with families

**Dog-friendly areas: Camp Nelson RV Park accommodates pets with open spaces. "We have 4 dogs and they were very welcomed by everyone," writes Tonya W. The park features riverfront locations that allow children and pets to explore safely.

**Playground access: Oh! Kentucky RV Park provides family recreation areas. "The real nice thing was the open field where I could let my dog run unleashed," notes Carl S. Families appreciate the maintained play areas and open spaces for children.

**Tent camping options: Camp on the Kentucky offers long-term tent options unusual in the region. "For most of those who travel you know they often offer long term services for those in RVs which provides a discount for staying more than a night or two, but at this campground you as a tent camper can find a location that suits your Kentucky home needs on the road for a day, a week or even a month," explains Crystal C.

Tips from RVers

**Site selection: When staying at Walnut Meadow RV Park, consider weather impacts. "They had a bad storm the night before our stay so alot of flooded sites. Megan called me before our arrival to warn me and check if there would be anything else we would need," shares Matthew A. Sites near creeks may flood after heavy rain.

**Leveling requirements: RVers should bring adequate leveling equipment. "We used our normal 2x green blocks for the Jack, but needed all 10 of our leveling blocks, plus 8 paving stones to get the appropriate height," explains one camper about riverfront sites. Sites with river views often require more extensive leveling.

**Water pressure management: At Whispering Hills RV Park, bring pressure regulators. "The water pressure was quite high (70 psi) according to the worker at the campground so make sure to have a water pressure regulator," advises Martin M. Most sites provide full hookups with 50-amp service available at many locations.
