You can spend a weekend in our Treehouse Yurt, experience comfort and seclusion in our Yome Away From Home, park your RV, pitch your tent, or hang your hammock.

We are also available for your wedding, retreat, reunion, fundraiser, or festival.

We are a farm in the mountains so be prepared to encounter INSECTS (mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers), WILDLIFE (deer, turkey, snakes, toads, and dare we mention the bear track we spotted one spring?), WEATHER (hot, cold, rain, snow), TOXIC PLANTS (poison ivy, stinging nettle, wild mushrooms), just to name a few.

We DO NOT have internet or cell service, though we do have a phone for emergency use (trust us, your "people" aren't out here). Instead, we do encourage other forms of entertainment: instruments, hiking shoes, fishing poles, bubbles, hula hoops, etc.

We also DO NOT have trash service. We will have recycling bins set up for plastic, cans, paper, and compost for your food waste, but plan to take your trash with you when you leave. We will have extra bags for those that forget. We also encourage you to bring your own dishes & cutlery to minimize excess trash as well.

You're always welcome to try our home line before 9pm at 859.Yum.Dirt (986.3478), but the best way to catch us (usually) is via email at Jessa@HomeGrownHideAways.org.

**About the Campsite **(whole property details below):

The tent platform is a 10' x 16' structure nestled in a hardwood forest with a single-pitched roof overtop. The platform is embanked by mature sourwood, oak, cedar, hemlock, beech, pine, poplar, and maple trees. Mornings waking up in the tree canopy are awash with the beautiful songs of rare birds.

Pristine water from our mineral spring is piped to the campsite, which features a fire pit, picnic table, and a porcelain farmhouse sink. Though within a forest, the site overlooks a wildflower meadow and organic gardens. You may enjoy a walk through the labyrinth of gardens and meander down to the creeks, or hike the forest trail to visit the spring. If you're lucky, you might receive the accompaniment of our cats or our dog Bella on your walk.

PARKING is in our driveway, below the site, less than 100 feet away. You will walk up a carved staircase through the woods to access your spot. The outhouse is a composting toilet connected to the driveway. To access Wi-Fi you will need to be closer to the house than your site.

The forest provides a cloak of privacy, but sound carries through the valley, so you may hear us or our neighbors occasionally. We live in an area that has NO CELL RECEPTION, and couldn't be happier about the peace of mind that comes with its absence. Neighbors are friendly as we have cultivated a village-like setting over the years, so feel free to walk the road. You can even walk to the trailhead of Anglin Falls!

When you are here, be aware that you are in the second-most biodiverse temperate rain forest on Earth. The health impacts of simply breathing the air are unquantifiable, but that is only because you are sharing a vast ecosystem with many beings. You will encounter hummingbirds, butterflies, newts, salamanders, snakes, spiders, and insects of all sorts in the daytime, and witness countless fireflies after dark. The symphony of night features crickets, frogs, owls, cicadas, and the occasional roll call of coyotes in the hills. Likewise, the plant life includes beautiful flowers, rare medicinals, briar roses, and three strains of poison ivy, so exercise reverence and caution. We ask that you respect and appreciate each and every one of these beings and their interwoven purposes within this vast web of life.

    Property Details

Plantasia, the property, was developed initially by a family who moved here in the late 1800s and chiseled out a generational homestead over the following century. The land stayed within the family until 2019, when we stepped in. We are grateful for all the work they did before us, but remain in the process of making it our own.

Our area of Kentucky, with fertile soil and drinkable water coursing from the hills, has a compelling and persisting tradition of homesteading and the old ways. There is an excellent book written about it, if you're the reading type: Shelter from the Machine: Homesteaders in the Age of Capitalism, by Jason Strange. Our property, Plantasia, is thirty-five acres of hardwood forest, lined with limestone boulders and sandstone cliffs, the occasional old growth tree, and mineral springs pouring out pure delicious water. The rest of the property is an old Appalachian homestead, featuring organic gardens and orchards, two farm cats and one farm dog, bee hives, and a flock of domestic ducks. The stewards are Phil, Sacha, three year-old Aurora, and baby Arthur. We are particularly keen to welcoming other families and/or folks who live in relative sobriety.

The springs feed into creeks which criss-cross the wildflower meadow, creating spaces to splash and explore with the minnows, crawdads, frogs, snakes, and whoever else you might find. To the interest of fossil hunters and rock hounds, the creeks are packed with geodes, agates, and relics of an age when Plantasia was the ocean floor (~250 million years ago). Down the road, the trailhead of one of Kentucky's greatest waterfalls, Anglin Falls, is within walking distance (though you can also drive there and park).

Plantasia is also a short drive from Berea, the folk art capital of Kentucky, which features plenty of local shops and restaurants, as well as some beautiful trails on the outskirts of town (Brushy Fork for a relaxing stroll, or the Pinnacles for a big majestic hike).

A great place to stay a while!

Nestled in a narrow valley between high ridges of The Knobs, this campground gives the feel of secluded country living with your own trails and creeks to explore. The coffee is locally roasted, fair trade, and most importantly, served fresh, early and rich. All are welcomed here, including the primitive camper, the glamper, and the yurt goer along with the farm chickens and neighbor dogs. My personal favorite sleeping spot is in the tipi, which is large enough for a small crowd but private enough for a single sleeper. Facilities at the site are plentiful and clean. Art and crafts festivals as well as music festivals occur frequently here so check the calendar and plan to stay for a while!

Nice things come in small packages !

My wife and I have been camping for years. We decided to come to Kentucky to visit the Ark and the Creation Museum. I found this little campground by joining The Dyrt. Three springs, was the best choice this summer. Very friendly staff and delivered my firewood next to the fire pit. Loaned me an electric cord extension and it was a delight to stay there.

    Cute but small

We decided to go down for a weekend to see how we'd like it. It's situated high up on the Kentucky river bank which is nice but there's little access to the riverbank except from the floating dock and boat ramp. When we arrived there was left overs from the previous flood which made it very muddy. It's definitely dog friendly but with no trails to really walk them on. We found a game trail that took us down to the riverbank at the end of the campground and found a goat hanging in a tree from the previous flooding. Perfect campground for partiers who don't respect quiet hours and those who stay at their camper the whole time.

Great park next to the river

This is a small well maintained campground right on the Kentucky river. It is down in a hollow which makes it secluded and quiet. There is a dock and a boat ramp. The customer service is exceptional. Under new management since November, they are making some very nice upgrades. 30/50 amp full hook ups with a number of pull throughs. The sites next to the river are level and easy to back into. There is a pavilion and a pool. It is about 30 minutes from Lexington and about 8 miles to the closest town. The one lane road coming in might give you the willies but it is worth it. They have 5 WiFi connections making this some of the best campground WiFi I have ever had. This is a lovely spot with nice amenities.

    All around amazing!

If you love water and nature this is the place for you! Beautiful river front campground that is peaceful. There is a boat ramp (perfect for my kayak), docks to go fishing off of, lots of nature and trails. I just brought my RV here for an extended stay and the staff made every effort to make sure my stay would be enjoyable! They even came out and helped me hook everything up (I’m a newbie to RV camping). They have new owners and the staff is very welcoming and treat you like family and friends. I highly recommend this place and so thankful I found this little gem!

    Helpful Hosts

Within an hour of buying my 1966 Airstream (only 17’ but I needed a pull through!) I chose this beautiful campground because of the people! Starting with the needed reassurance on the phone, then setting me up and checking in to make sure I was doing ok. As a newbie, I was so glad to have the staff (and friendly neighbors) helping me out! Next time I’ll explore the trails and enjoy the water.

Small park restrooms and showers. Very clean. Nice pool. Camp store offers basics. Fairly close to shopping groceries etc. staff was friendly 30/50 amp service didn’t count the number of river view sites. But quite a few. Some sites have 20 X 12 elevated decks. Full hook ups. Pet friendly. Was very quiet the week we stayed. Didn’t feel like bringing the camper home so payed for another week and drive back the following week. Cell service. Isn’t the best WiFi was available if I remember. Correctly rates were reasonable

Waterfall and trails are nice, but the sites aren’t level

The sites here are not level. We used our normal 2x green blocks for the Jack, but needed all 10 of our leveling blocks, plus 8 paving stones to get the appropriate height.

Despite advertising, there is no dog park. There are a ton of dogs, so this would’ve been nice.

The river and waterfall makes it feel like a tranquil place. The walking trail by the river is nice, we walked it almost every day.

Live music and food trucks every Saturday are a nice touch!

    Heaven!

We had the most amazing time and actually ended up extending our stay here because of how lovely this spot is. Secluded and tucked away along the river. Very clean sites, both back-in and pull-through. Full hookups. They have live music and a food truck on Saturdays. Entry is by card-swipe only, so very safe. Peaceful spot without much noise. Little trail along the river to walk.

Great resort!!! Very very happy customer

Really can’t say enough good things about Cummins Ferry. Beautiful park with loads of amenities: full hook ups, camp store, pool disc golf, fishing, hiking, fire pits at sites, river views and event organized by resort. Staff is wonderful and very helpful. Sites are a bit bigger than what you find at most rv parks. However the WiFi is pretty crappy. I’m sure this place is packed full in the summertime so booking early then would be a smart idea.

    Camp Nelson RV Park

    Older Kentucky River bankside campground

We enjoyed our stay at Camp Nelson RV Park.  It's a smaller(ish) park with quite a few permanent sites.  A lot of the permanent sites are older campers in need of some TLC.

The campground has a very nice pool and is very quiet.  A bit tight for larger rigs (ours is a 40' DP).  The owner is very friendly and has several younger folks working there that are very friendly and accommodating.

There was a slight mix-up with our site when we arrived, but the young lady that was guiding us returned to the office and found us a very nice alternative site for the duration of our stay.  They have a small campground store at the office that is well supplied with the necessities.  Off the beaten path, quiet, and friendly....what more could you ask for???

    Camp Nelson RV Park

    Quiet, Friendly, Not prettiest

We had a great time. This was one of the quietest campgrounds we have ever been to. I would say 85% of the sites are full timers. I site we received was awesome and spacious, but we had some friends that were pleased with there’s and left early. The pool was huge and very clean. We seen the staff checking it every hour. It is open to the public which we didn’t care for. The playground was very old. The women’s bathhouse has been remodeled and was very nice. It was right on the KY River. We wouldn’t call it our favorite campground but would probably go back if we got the same sites again.

    Camp Nelson RV Park

Friendly Campground on the KY River

My husband and I stayed there for 8 months through the fall and winter of 2018 into the spring of 2019. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They have really worked hard to bring this campground back to a place you would like to stay. There are several who are residents there and are very nice as well. They do have camper storage at the top of the property which does have some older, broken-down looking units but also some very nice ones too. Full hook-ups for $395/mo if you are staying monthly. The only down-side to the stay was the husband of the couple that own it. He isn't very friendly at all. Our first night there, the electric went out at our pole and he kept trying to blame it on our RV when it turned out it was the main breaker for our line of electric poles and was his issue. He never apologized and was not nice at all. Any time he is there(which is very rarely) he is just an unhappy person. His wife is wonderful as are all the regular staff. I wouldn't let him keep you from staying there as he is not there normally but just know that his demeanor isn't the best. We have 4 dogs and they were very welcomed by everyone. The pool is nice although they do sell memberships to it for outside folks to use which means there can be a lot of people there on a holiday or very warm day. All in all, it was a pleasant experience and we would definitely stay there again if need be.

    Loved our visit!

We had such an amazing time at HomeGrown HideAways!! We stayed at the Yome, and it was perfect for our family of four. Instead of sleeping in it, which would have been perfectly comfortable, we actually used it as more of an extra shelter and we pitched out tents in the field in front of the Yome.

The outhouse was perfectly clean, but there were flush toilets available if you took a little walk.

This place is amazing lots of room to take walks and even a good, challenging mile or so hike. There are ducks and chickens around, and the eggs are always available. There's also a few super friendly dogs to visit. The owners are wonderful people, and we really enjoyed our time there.

    Had a nice evening

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I asked for the most remote location to set up my tent. It’s still pretty close (across the gravel road about 100’ from RV/trailer campers). The row of tent sites backed up to a fence line. There are trees along this row so you’re not in full sun all day. I wish the tent sites were along the edge of the lake, but this is safer for small children. I’d camp here again possibly. There is a shower house but I did not use this facility. A Rural King store and other retail businesses are less than 5 miles from the location if you happen to forget something.
