Best RV Parks & Resorts near Missouri Valley, IA

Several RV parks around Missouri Valley cater to different types of motorhome travelers. The Missouri Valley City Park offers electrical hookups with nearby water spigots and includes amenities like a water park and playground for families. Hitchcock County Nature Center in Honey Creek provides electric sites at $15 per night with fire rings, picnic tables, and access to hiking trails and an archery range. "I arrived around 3 pm. Noticed the amenities. Which are many. We are visiting in winter. But this is a place to come with your kids or grandkids," noted one camper about Missouri Valley City Park. Many RV sites throughout the region are gravel pads with some variation in levelness, and most can accommodate big rigs with pull-through options available at locations like Bluffs Run RV Park at Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs.

Seasonal considerations affect RV camping options in the area, with many parks operating from April through October or November. Full hookup availability varies significantly between parks, with some offering water, electric, and sewer connections while others provide only electric. Most RV campgrounds in the region include dump stations, though their locations and accessibility differ—some are situated on sloped terrain making complete tank emptying challenging. Pet policies are generally permissive throughout the area's RV parks, with designated pet areas at select locations. For travelers concerned about connectivity, cell service is typically strong near the more developed parks, particularly those closer to Council Bluffs and Omaha. Picnic tables and fire rings are standard at most sites, though fire restrictions may apply seasonally.

    Czechland Lake Recreation Area

Great first come first serve campground

This is a nice small campground that is well taken care of. We stayed at site number 8 which may be one of the more unlevel spots. The passenger side of our 5th wheel was about 7" lower than driver side and rear of fifth wheel was about 3" lower than front before we levelled out.

    Pros:

-Well maintained walking trails that are perfect for dogs

-Most sites have 30 and 50 amp hookups

-Fire rings and picnic tables at most sites

-$18 a night for electric hookups

    -Quiet

    Cons:

    -Some sites are very unlevel

    -No water or dump station

    Louisville State Recreation Area Campground

    Good campground and recreation area

Pretty decent campground that’s suitable for extended stays.

There’s five or so lakes you can fish. One lake has swimming access. Canoe and paddle board rentals. Convenience store on site with firewood and propane tanks. There is an air compressor at the convenience store.

RV sites are electrical only but paved. Restrooms are somewhat clean. Showers are okay but the hot water is nice.

Dump station is clean. Don’t checkout on a Sunday if you don’t want to wait two hours to dump.

    Arrowhead Park Campground

Great nature, fishing, and camping park.

Arrowhead campground has 60 RV sites that support both 30 and 50 amp hookups. They have several well water stations to take on water and a sewer dump station. There also lots of tent camping sites. All sites come with picnic table and fire ring. There are numerous nature trails to hike ranging from easy to hard. There is also a nice sized lake for fishing, canoeing, and paddle boats. The lake has a boat ram for small fishing boats. Very well maintained, managed, and friendly atmosphere.

Perfect spot to explore Omaha and the Great Plains

Platte River State Park is a beautiful, full service park with plenty of amenities. There are playgrounds and a splash pad for the kids, canoe rentals, and plenty of trails to hike or bike. Sites are concrete pads with full hookups and include a fire ring and picnic table. The campground also has a bathroom and dog park. 5 bars of AT&T @ 120Mbps!

    Arrowhead Park Campground

    Easy Family Camping Near Omaha

Our family and another family shared a primitive tent site near the back of the park. We were first and foremost impressed with the freedom we had in choosing our site. Tent camping here is non-reservable, but once you enter the park, you may choose from any spots containing a fire pit outside of RV loops. Tent sites range from lake-front, to playground side, to more private sites on the outer rim of the park. We chose a large, private site at the back of the park. This site was well maintained and had enough space to easily accommodate two families of four. We even had a picnic shelter all to ourselves. Our site was lined by woods and farmland and had a good view of a small pond. The night was full of exciting animal noises from both the nearby farm and pond. Vault toilets were a short walk away with clean shower facilities just a few loops away. The kids enjoyed riding bikes up and down gravel roads, looking for frogs, and playing on the playground. Canoe and paddle boat rental is extremely reasonable. Hiking trails near the park entrance are rugged. The staff was incredibly kind and easy-going, yet attentive. Just a short drive from neighboring towns, this is a good starter campground for families with younger kids. We hope to return in winter to check out the camping cabins.

Lewis and Clark State Park Campground

    Clean & kid friendly

Well kept & family friendly camping in Iowa! We were able to reserve an electric unit (#30) right off the lake and across the road from the large playground (~5 setups for different age groups). We could watch the kids play while getting food ready or preparing a line to throw in the water. Short walk to the very clean restrooms with flush toilets & showers. Will come back!

    Lake Manawa State Park Campground

    Nice metro campground

Large concrete pads with patio and permanently mounted mesh steel picnic table with a fire pit grill on the corner.. Lakeside locations are quite well spaced with a panoramic Lake view. small restroom and shower pair with unisex entry. Quite spartan, but relatively clean. Trees surround the campground, but none provide any campground shade. Entry gate code required, which provides some security. all amenities are available within a limited distance. Some lake activity noises during the day, and depending upon wind, some aircraft traffic, otherwise very quiet.

    Pottawattamie County Fairgrounds

    Nice, quiet spot.

Hidden gem. Just a few mins off I-80 but no noise or signs of heavytraffic. Cute, quaint little town. All pull through spots and all sites are level. Not all spots have picnic tables or fire rings but there were very few campers so we had our pick of spots. Playset for younger kids. Golf course and pool in town. Nice shade trees. Bath house had flushing Toilets. Showers weren't very clean but we didn't need to use them. Perfect for a quick stop and very affordable at $20 for full hookups.

West Omaha / NE Lincoln KOA Holiday

    Great pizza.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The bathrooms & laundry room are clean,a little outdated. The pull through sites seem to be all gravel/stone. Our back in site had a patio, fire pit and nice patio furniture. Looked like a lot to do for the kids. The camp store is well stocked with RV supplies and parts. After driving all day, then doing laundry it was nice to get a pizza and relax.

Guide to Missouri Valley

RV camping near Missouri Valley, Iowa offers easy access to the Loess Hills region, a rare landform found only here and in China. The area sits along the Missouri River valley with elevations ranging from 920 to 1,560 feet in the surrounding hills. Summer temperatures typically reach the mid-80s, while spring and fall camping conditions remain mild with occasional rainfall.

What to do

Hike unique terrain trails: Hitchcock Nature Center features miles of varied difficulty trails through the distinctive Loess Hills. "The hiking is fantastic and offers something for every skill level. There are absolutely gorgeous views of the Missouri River valley below. All trails are marked and have multiple different trailheads, many which start around the visitors center/tower Overlook," notes a visitor.

Join educational programs: The nature center hosts regular educational events including Hawk Watch, a popular program for bird enthusiasts. "Great hiking in Loess Hills, great Nature Center especially with programming of 'Hawk Watch'," shares one camper who appreciated the educational offerings.

Try archery: On-Ur-Wa RV Park provides convenient access to recreational activities including archery ranges. "This campsite was everything we were needing for the night plus more. The people were very friendly," comments a satisfied camper about this convenient base for activities.

What campers like

Backcountry camping options: Hitchcock Nature Center offers remote sites for those seeking more solitude. "My preference is getting one of the campsites on the western edge of the park on top of the ridge. At night you can see the Omaha skyline lit up and the breeze running through there is wonderful," writes one reviewer who enjoys the more secluded options.

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention well-maintained bathrooms as a highlight. "Bathrooms and showers are clean. One of our party is in a wheelchair and had no problem accessing the showers or bathroom," notes a visitor to On-Ur-Wa RV Park.

Quick interstate access: Many campgrounds in the area provide convenient highway access for those passing through. "Great location. Very nice campground. Large spacious pull thru sites. Extremely clean bathrooms and showers. We stayed twice, westbound and eastbound," writes one camper about On-Ur-Wa RV Park.

What you should know

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds in the Missouri Valley area have limited operating seasons, typically April through October. Bob Hardy RV Park runs "early April to late October" with shower houses that close when temperatures reach freezing.

Self-service options: Many parks have straightforward check-in processes without full-time hosts. "Small park in a cute neighborhood. 8 RV spots with electric and water. Tent camping as well. $15/night for RV spot. $10/night tent spots. 5 day max. Pay at the bath house, no host on site," explains a visitor to Bob Hardy RV Park.

Highway noise considerations: Some campgrounds are located near major highways, which can create ambient noise. "This place is sandwiched in between I-80 and the I-80 Speedway. Even w/ full hookups it's a bit overpriced," reports one camper about a nearby RV park.

Tips for camping with families

Educational programming for kids: Pine Grove RV Park & Campground offers family-friendly amenities including a pool that's well-maintained. "We love the friendly staff, the onsite cafe, and the beautiful pool. The owners take great care of the pool, so our grandkids come out and swim with us whenever they can. So many campground pools are a bit scary, but not this one," shares a frequent visitor.

Accessible nature trails: Some parks feature boardwalk trails suitable for all ages and abilities. "They have a 1 mile hike on a boardwalk that's very easy. There's all levels of hikes," notes a camper about Hitchcock Nature Center's family-friendly options.

Recreation rentals: Several campgrounds offer equipment rentals for water activities. "The nature center is a nice place to cool down in the summer and learn about the loess hills," mentions one visitor about the educational opportunities available for children.

Tips from RVers

Level site considerations: Many RV sites in the region require minimal leveling but vary by location. "The gravel site we were on fit our 40 ft fifth wheel without a problem but was slightly off level," notes a visitor to Sunset at Blue Oasis RV Park.

Dump station access: Free dump stations are available at some parks but may have positioning challenges. "Single free dump station as well," notes a visitor to Bob Hardy RV Park, providing essential information for RV waste management.

Overnight stop convenience: The Missouri Valley area serves well as a waypoint for cross-country travelers. "Not too far from the Interstate and Lewis and Clark State Park in Iowa. The bathrooms/showers are beautiful and immaculate," shares an RVer about their experience at Sunset at Blue Oasis RV Park.
