Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park

    Old and small

The sites are very small but spread out. Our 35 ft class a barely fit. They do show length limits for sites and they definitely max limit. There is electric (30 amp) and water at the site but it was 75 ft from my sites. Extensions are needed. The staff is friendly and the roads are paved but there are signs directing where to go. Great bathrooms and plentiful. Also coin operated laundry. Fairly close to the freeway.

    Indian Point RV Park

    Overnight only

The campground sits on three level overlooking Lake Barkly. There are only 5 pull-thru sites with full hookups on wide open ground, no shade. There are 16 water and electric sites. The 150+ sites are long term rental properties. There is a swimming pool, play ground, boat ramp, and game room. Dump site at entrance. More a retirement community than a RV camp.

    Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park Campground

    Quiet camping convenient to I-57

Wayne Fitzgerald State Park is on Rend Lake, just off I-57 in Southern Illinois. It’s a great place for camping, fishing and bikes. It’s convenient for a short stop if you are traveling through, or as a destination. Although it’s right off the interstate there is no traffic noise. The campground has 40 tent sites and over 240 modern campsites, which offer electrical hookups, water and sewer facilities. Modern sites are $20/night, with 30/50 amp service. Primitive sites are $6. There is no internet. There are a few pull through sites.. there is lots of room and the sites appear to be level. There are 3 shower buildings. Many sites can be reserved online. There is a playground, and boat ramp. The park has hunting, fishing, camping, picnicking, horseback riding, hiking and boating. there is a golf course nearby and a lodge. Rend Lake is well-known for crappie, particularly in the early spring, as well as largemouth bass, channel catfish and bluegill.

    Burdette Park

    Nice little sute

Burdette Park is on the west side of Evansville. Really nice park! Currently we are full timing there. They have maybe 24 full huck up spots and about 10 or so w/o sewer. 30/50 amp electric on all. All pads are drive through and very level. They don't have much going on in winter but summertime is great. Pool, trails, BMX racing on Friday nights and tons of shelters for your get-togethers! Wonderful camp managers!

Tween the Lakes RV Park & Campground

    No frills campground

This is a no frills campground just off of I-69/I-24. Check in was completed online and our site was marked with our name. All sites are full hook up with concrete pads. The county has a trail system that begin just a few hundred feet down the road that is a nice stretch of the legs. The skeleton on the motorcycle welcoming you was interesting, maybe we were really early or really late for Halloween. The campground is in need of some TLC of the grounds. There also seems to be a lot of long term residents.

    Timber Ridge Outpost & Cabins

    Not bad

Paid $35 per night for 2 nights after our Passport America discount. Not sure it would have been worth the full price. Full hookups. 50amp, water (55psi), and sewer. Cell coverage for AT&T and Verizon were both adequate to stream and work. The check-in process was a bit slow. We kinda expected that since it took us a dozen calls just to get someone to pick up the phone to make a reservation. We were first in line at check-in and spent at least 10 minutes going over all sorts of rules and information. Luckily we showed up at 3:05pm because they charge $25 for "early check-in" any time before 3pm. We're full-time RVers and have stayed at nearly 140 campgrounds and that's the first time we've seen something before 3pm called "early" and that's a pretty steep price for check-in. Our entire section of the campground was empty. Our neighbors actually showed up at 2pm and opted to wait an hour in the parking lot to go to their un-occupied site rather than paying $25. But besides the check-in, the campground was beautiful. Plenty of tree cover. The roads are paved and easy to navigate. Many of the amenities are closed for covid but there were still people riding around on their bikes. Definitely a bike-centric park with trails and bike paths around. It's not located next door to Traverse City but it's not far to get to most things. We camped at Timber Ridge Campground & Recreation Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

    Fern Lake Campground

    Clean, close to Highway

We stopped here overnight twice because it was close to the highway and had pull-through sites to accommodate our 43’ fifth wheel. We were pleasantly surprised by how nice it was, and you couldn’t even hear the Highway. Our sites both times were in the gravel pull-through area, which seems to be intended for short stays. Even though we were close to the neighbors the sites are angled, so we had a beautiful view of a grassy area with trees out our living room windows. The longer stay sites had gravel and then grass in between the sites, and views of a lake. Very serene, pretty and clean campground.

Guide to Junction

Pine Ridge Campground in Junction, Illinois sits at the northern edge of Shawnee National Forest, offering rustic camping at an elevation of approximately 600 feet. The campground remains open from April 1 to December 15, with fall foliage peaking in mid-October. Campsites in the non-electric loop provide more spacing and privacy than those in the electric hookup area.

What to do

Hiking at Garden of the Gods: Just a short drive from Pharoah - Garden of the Gods Rec Area Campground, visitors can explore stunning rock formations. "The formations are amazing!! We love to hike here in the fall when it's cooler outside and when the leaves are changing it's absolutely beautiful. The views are some of the best around," shares one camper.

Swimming at Pounds Hollow: Pine Ridge features access to a swimming beach. "A 2 mile loop road goes around the whole campground and down to a beach access point for a gorgeous lake. That was a perfect little walk with the dog. Spectacular," notes a visitor. The beach area is typically open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Fishing opportunities: Many campers bring fishing gear to try their luck at nearby Lake Glendale. "Nice sites, and decent fishing and beach for swimming," reports one camper who stayed at Pine Ridge. Bass and bluegill are common catches in the area lakes.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Outback RV Resort receives praise for its layout. "The campground was easy to find off I-24... The gravel site with a picnic table and fire pit was long enough for our 39' 5th wheel and our F-450," shares one RVer who visited the area.

Clean facilities: Campground cleanliness stands out in reviews across the region. "Very, very well maintained facilities. Clean bath house. Level asphalt pads with good hook-ups," notes a camper at Outback RV Resort, adding that "most sites have some shade."

Affordability: Budget-conscious campers appreciate the value at Pine Ridge. "It was only $10 a night!!! Fall foliage was kick'n too," writes an enthusiastic visitor. Many Forest Service campgrounds in the area maintain similarly low rates compared to private rv parks Junction, Illinois visitors might consider.

What you should know

Seasonal closures: Most rv parks near Junction, Illinois operate seasonally. Birdsville Riverside RV Park runs "from March 1 to November 30," according to their information, with many other area campgrounds following similar schedules.

Cell service limitations: Connectivity can be unpredictable. "Not great for starlink but very moderate t mobile a slightly better Verizon," reports a camper who stayed at Garden of the Gods. Signal strength generally improves closer to larger towns.

Water access: Not all campgrounds provide water hookups at individual sites. At Pine Ridge, one camper notes, "The left loop has power 50/30/20 amp hook ups but no water or sewer on the campsite." Campers should fill water tanks before arrival.

Poison ivy awareness: Several trails in the area have poison ivy growth. "There was poison ivy everywhere along the trail which made for a stressful hike, trying to keep ourselves on the trail without rubbing against the poison ivy," warns a hiker who visited Garden of the Gods.

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Venture River RV park offers a unique family amenity. "The facilities are great, but you can tell it is a very new campground by the lack of mature trees for shade. Fortunately, we were not at camp during the heat of the day. We would stay here again and bring the cousins to play at the water park," shares a family camper.

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature play areas for children. At Outback RV Resort, one visitor notes, "They have play equipment for kids and a pool," making it suitable for family camping trips.

Hiking difficulty levels: When planning hikes with children, consider trail difficulty. Garden of the Gods offers varying terrain options. "Great hiking, there are plenty of spots to take in scenic views!" reports one camper, while another advises planning shorter routes for younger children.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for large rigs: When staying at Marion Campground & RV Park, request pull-through sites if possible. "Pull thru, 50 amp, full hookup... Graveled Sites are close together," notes one RVer. This campground provides convenient interstate access for larger vehicles.

Leveling considerations: Some campsites require additional equipment. "Level asphalt pads with good hook-ups. Most sites have some shade," reports a visitor to Outback RV Resort, though other campgrounds may need leveling blocks.

Hookup placement: At Birdsville Riverside RV Park, visitors should note the utility arrangement. "The odd number sites are back in, even numbers are pull in (or if you had cords and hoses long enough you could also back in knowing that you'd have to go under your camper to hookup)," explains one RVer, adding that this setup works well for buddy camping if arranged properly.
