There were several hiking trails that looked pretty, but we didn't get a chance to walk them. Overall, this is a nice and quiet campground. We would definitely stay again. We camped at Ferne Clyffe State Park in a Motorhome.
This is a very clean, quiet, shady campground. It is off interstate 57 if you are passing through or a great place to park and see the sites of Shawnee National Forest. The people of Goreville are nice and friendly and Ron, who oversees the campground is a great guy!
Very disappointed people r confused drove from herrin 2 the lake 2 different occasions went 2 pyramid marina asked if we could fish they said yes went back a second time stopped 2 get 4 dozen minnows asked if there's any public access she said u have 2 pay $5 2 fish pyramid marina on top of it I went inside the bar 2 pay & the bartender said there's no public access or fishing what's the real awnser
We enjoyed our stay at Dixon Springs. We were the only campers in our loop for the entire stay. This is a very clean, well maintained campground, the hosts were very friendly and helpful.
I feel like the Garden of the Gods Campground website is deceitful. Their pictures do not accurately reflect the campground experience. If you are ok with living like a sardine during your stay, this is a great base location for site seeing.
Overall, a great spot. You could camp in far worse places for sure.… Love the location, the size of the camping site and especially those near Lake Hartwell with private entrances. The campground is shaded and has the occasional wildlife but it is an adventure all together for the whole family.
Paid $35 per night for 2 nights after our Passport America discount. Not sure it would have been worth the full price. Full hookups. 50amp, water (55psi), and sewer. Cell coverage for AT&T and Verizon were both adequate to stream and work. The check-in process was a bit slow. We kinda expected that since it took us a dozen calls just to get someone to pick up the phone to make a reservation. We were first in line at check-in and spent at least 10 minutes going over all sorts of rules and information. Luckily we showed up at 3:05pm because they charge $25 for "early check-in" any time before 3pm. We're full-time RVers and have stayed at nearly 140 campgrounds and that's the first time we've seen something before 3pm called "early" and that's a pretty steep price for check-in. Our entire section of the campground was empty. Our neighbors actually showed up at 2pm and opted to wait an hour in the parking lot to go to their un-occupied site rather than paying $25. But besides the check-in, the campground was beautiful. Plenty of tree cover. The roads are paved and easy to navigate. Many of the amenities are closed for covid but there were still people riding around on their bikes. Definitely a bike-centric park with trails and bike paths around. It's not located next door to Traverse City but it's not far to get to most things. We camped at Timber Ridge Campground & Recreation Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
We stayed in this beautiful park in a travel trailer. The sites were shady and clean. The staff was great and the marina store provided the snacks and bait we needed. We loved the clean beach area. Perfect spot for kayaking. Boats and kayaks were available to rent. We camped at Little Grassy Lake Campground and Marina in a Travel Trailer
Lots to see and do. we love to fish and camp on Crab. Great Lake. We camp at Blue Heron Campground in Carterville, right on Crab Orchard Lake. Places to eat and shop close by. Pizza can be delivered to campground. We camp there 6-8 times a year, several days at a time. It is my husbands favorite place to Bass Fish.
Wow, this campground was a pleasant surprise for my son and I who are traveling through. We had Spot 20 & it was very private and cozy. The showers are very very clean. The woman who was our camp host was truly amazing and helpful. She works so hard making sure the campground facility is clean and stocked well ready for the guests' needs. Please give her a bonus or a raise because she was awesome!!
This is a gorgeous park with beautiful sights around every turn. BUT the people who leave their garbage by the springs should be ashamed. There were beer cans, fireworks remnants, trash, diapers, you name it. I cannot believe people would defile this natural wonder, but there it is.
Great location for a get away from the daily grind & hustle of the city. Kids had a great time & people were super friendly. No nonsense business owner with great customer service -previous reviews from 2016 talked about owner drinking beer -I thoroughly enjoyed having a cold one with them. Loved the service & bathroom facilities were great.
Nickell is the northernmost campground in LBL. It is a self-service campground with 11 designated sites. The access road FR-102 is gravel and in pretty good shape aside from some large potholes. There is a large loop with a big open grassy area once you get to the pay station. From there, 3 short offshoots A, B & C - A is the boat ramp area and site #1; B is where the single vault toilet is located and sites #2 & #3; C loop has the remaining sites #4 - #8 which are for small to medium RVs, and sites #9 - #11 are grass tent sites. There are picnic tables and very nice fire rings at each site. Besides the toilet, boat ramp, and a new dumpster, those are the only amenities.
The 11-mile Canal Loop Trail crosses the road just before the pay station for hiking and biking (it connects to the North-South Trail). The campground is near the Barkley Canal that connects the two lakes making for lots of boating and paddling options. The North Welcome Center has fresh water and a dump station just a few miles away.
The cell reception is great - I got download speeds of 18-34 Mbps. Also, several OTA TV channels. These sites are all situated in the woods near the water so none are particularly good for solar. But otherwise, for the price this is pretty sweet dry camping.
The hosts were delightful and very helpful. They went out of their way to accommodate our needs. However, The sites were uneven, difficult to get in and out of with a large rig. Long term guests next to us were rude and insulting when asked to leash their dog, after it twice attacked our dog. As a result of this negative experience we cannot recommend this park.
Long and level gravel site with full hookups. WIFI worked OK but cable TV was fuzzy. Gravel roads made for a lot of dust with the next door auto auction using the entry road for access to its back lot. Front desk person was friendly and easy check in. The price was reasonable.
