Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Miramar, FL

Markham Park Campground welcomes pets at its full-hookup RV and tent sites, where campers can enjoy spacious, well-maintained grounds with firewood available on-site. C.B. Smith Park Campground also permits pets throughout its camping areas, offering electric, water, and sewer connections with picnic tables at each site. The campsites at both locations maintain clean facilities with regular maintenance and security patrols. Reviewers note the sunsets over the water at C.B. Smith are spectacular, with private sites that offer a mix of open and shaded areas. Hollywood KOA (formerly Grice RV Park) provides pet-friendly cabin accommodations in addition to traditional camping options, though some visitors mention that sites are compact and quite close together.

Dogs must remain leashed throughout most camping areas, with waste disposal stations positioned at convenient intervals. The campgrounds provide easy access to nearby walking trails and open spaces for pet exercise. C.B. Smith Park features a paved path winding through the property and a perimeter road ideal for walking dogs, while Markham Park offers extensive trail systems. Davie/Fort Lauderdale KOA is situated in South Florida's horse country, providing a unique environment for camping with pets. Temperature considerations are important when camping with dogs in this region, as summer heat can be intense. Several veterinary clinics operate within a 15-minute drive of these campgrounds, and pet supply stores are readily accessible in surrounding commercial areas. The basketball court adjacent to some campsites at C.B. Smith can be noisy until around 11 pm, something to consider when selecting a site location with pets who may be sensitive to noise.

    Quiet Waters Park

    Worth a Visit

My husband and I rented a campground flat in December. It was on the water, had a grill, electrcitiy, fire pit, tent, running water and was pet friendly. We brought our kayaks and played around. Had a lot of space to walk our dogs. It was really a great time!

    Larry & Penny Thompson Park

Quiet and Peaceful Campground, trees, greenery and option for long term

This is a very nice campground which is part of the Miami-Dade County park system.  It is close to the Encore Everglades park (about 4 miles) so we stayed here after we departed.  The campground is divided into pods and each pod has about 15 or so sites.  We were in pod 4 site 20 (420 lol).  We booked this camp with the intent to stay for a month or longer as my husband had an opportunity to Captain boats in Miami.

The park was very quiet.  Most of the campers were retirees, a few families with kids, but we were there in early January.  The grounds are nicely maintained with lots of places to walk and open space with trees.  They don't allow dogs off-leash and although it is adjacent to the rest of the Larry & Penny park, dogs are not even allowed in the main park, at all.  We did however find a few dog parks within four miles or so which were nice.

They have a very nice pool which was open daily Wed- Sunday 11am - 5pm.  It was raining and rather dreary during our stay so we didn't use the pool.  They have a nice Clubhouse and it looked okay with tables, chairs, books, puzzles, but again very quiet.  Not many activities except for a few and we didn't stay long enough to participate.  After a week, we decided to make moves back home to Lake Tahoe.  It was unseasonably cold, raining so no boat work and not an ideal spot for the dogs.  They don't have WiFi and since we were planning a longer stay, purchased the Starlink system since I work remote during the winter.  Starlink worked great, but costs $500+ to get started and then $120 or so a month.  If you are looking for an affordable long term/monthly stay, it is great.  The rates were $850 a month for full hook-ups.  They had last minute space available, too.

If you are in the area, check out the Miami Zoo.  We were there when they had the "Zoo Lights" a super fun evening event.  They have other events at the Zoo and lots to do nearby.  You are closer to town than Everglades Encore, but still close to the agricultural area.  I recommend but not as fun or as many activities as some other places.

Monument Lake Campground — Big Cypress National Preserve

    Not much but parking

Wide-open spaces surround the lake. Nothing to block the wind! The bathhouse was very clean, and the camp host was nice. Tent sites are just off the main road. This campground is a convenient location to many attractions in the Everglades. Dump Stations are available and conveniently located. NO SWIMMING! There are gators in the lake, and they can be large. Do not leave small pets unattended. All food must be secured at all times due to the proximity of wildlife.

    Southern Comfort RV Resort

    Best Park in Florida City

This park is located right off Route 1 in Florida City. For the area this is a large park. I believe over 150 sites. The sites are decent in size. The park fills up quickly come the winter time with the “ Snow Birds” but the park overall is wonderful. There is a bar/Tiki Hut on premise and a big swimming pool open year round. This is a pet friendly park but with a breed and size restriction, so call ahead if you have Fido with you.

    Encore Breezy Hill

    Forced to cancel

This park was rated as pet friendly in the TT system, turns out it isn't.  Now with under 2 weeks to go, we need to make new reservations and may have to be over an hour out from where we need to be.

Phone calls galore trying to find a new site.

    Sawgrass Recreation Park

    This place saved my life!

Sawgrass Recreation area primary businesses are airboat tours and petting zoo, however they have a small primitive campsite at the back as well. I was trying to ride my bicycle from Ft. Laudardale to South Bay, but the head wind was so strong that I was moving at a snail's pace. Luckily, this place is conviniently located just off the state route 27, an oasis of civilization on a 30 mile strech of nothingness. the camground is only open during dry season, which is late winter.

    Paradise Island RV Resort

    Stuck Without Options!

3 campers and two RVs crammed into overflow. NO full hookups as indicated over the phone. Showers NOT in the “bath house” adjacent to these crummy sites. The dumpsite is between the office and the fence. This requires you to back into position or drive down a narrow path and make 3 tight turns. Florida has NO dump sites at rest or service areas! What????

    Davie / Fort Lauderdale KOA

    Very unkind management

I am writing this review to shield anyone who is camping & going through a difficult time in life, because no one deserves to be treated as we were. Unfortunately, I would never stay at this KOA ever again. It makes me very sad & upset to know that such unkind, greedy people run this campground- one of the few KOA’s in all of Florida. My family and I are going through a very rough time due to illness. We come here to be at a family wedding, to forget, to be happy & comfortable. We are big travelers all across the continental United States, and have stayed at nearly every KOA in the entire country. This is the first and hopefully last time I have ever had to write a review to protect people from coming to a campground. If you HAVE to stay here do not stay in spot 89. The KOA workers walk dogs they cannot control, that bark VERY loudly at 8AM. And all throughout the day, dogs walking past and barking. Absolute torture. We were charged for having 2 cats, $10. Never been charged for two cats that don’t leave the camper but, okay. When we got to the site, we discovered that we paid $120 for a spot with an enormous pile of dirt & construction on it. Not being dramatic. But honestly, I really didn’t care about that much. What bothered me was how they treated people. I pride myself on always being kind to people because you don’t know what anyone is going through. What bothered me was a man with facial hair on a golf cart telling me (who owns the camper & paid for the spot) to leave immediately because my sisters rental car was “not registered at the office”. He saw us come in and drove all the way back to the office to look at our registered cars. How bored and and angry at life do you have to be to care about that? Just wow. He tried to charge us money to register my pregnant sister coming to visit us for 2 hours because we “didn’t register her rental car at the office?” I have never experienced anything like that. Turns out there was one nice woman who is shorter and has dark brown hair in a ponytail, she was kind enough to tell us the TRUTH that we just had to park it in a designated spot. LOL. Why wouldn’t you tell someone that in the first place? Because you can get money out of them the first way. How cruel and greedy is that? I will never associate myself with this campground ever again. The nasty looks we received from staff during our stay was laughable. I look forward to sending a very accurate depiction of our lovely stay at the Davie KOA to the KOA Owners Association Board of Directors. I hope you desperately unhappy people can heal yourselves and find true happiness & love in this life.

Water activities: C.B. Smith Park Campground features a beautiful lake with water access. A camper shared, "We stayed in the back behind the lake and it was very quiet/family friendly. The lake/dock area is beautiful, and there's a massive playground across from the campground in the main park."

Renaissance festivals and events: Topeekeegee Yugnee Park hosts seasonal events throughout the year. "We were pleasantly surprised by this park. The sites were level concrete pads, bathrooms air conditioned and clean as were the showers. Park is beautiful and they have events happening- we stumbled on a Renaissance Festival."

Observatory visits: Markham Park Campground features an on-site observatory open on Saturday nights. According to a camper, "For south florida, its about as good as it gets. Also has a nice observatory on saturday nights to visit."

Shooting range access: Markham Park includes a large outdoor shooting range for target practice. A visitor mentioned, "During the day, there is noise pollution due to jet skis on the water, and the gun range located across the path. However, at night (when it really matters) it is completely silent except for local wildlife."

What campers like

Spacious RV sites: Topeekeegee Yugnee Park Campground offers well-designed sites for larger rigs. "Stayed here over a holiday weekend and enjoyed it, roads getting in the RV park are good but watch out for branches with big units outside the park to the north... slot was spacey and the pool seemed nice."

Recent renovations: Davie / Fort Lauderdale KOA has undergone significant improvements. A recent visitor wrote, "I went there this week and I was amazed at the transformation. It is beautiful, clean and very welcoming. Each site has new outdoor furniture and is clean. These sites are just waiting for you to pull in."

Private waterfront camping: Yacht Haven Park & Marina offers sites directly on the water. "The best part about the park is backing your RV up to the docks on the river and seeing all the boats go by at night."

Secure camping environment: Many campgrounds in the area prioritize security. A camper at Topeekeegee Yugnee Park noted, "Very well lit at night with security. The RV park is located in the back of the county park, so there is plenty to do: water park, outdoor gym and regular play areas for kids."

What you should know

Weather considerations: Summer months (May-September) bring high humidity and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Plan outdoor activities for mornings and be prepared for rain.

Train noise impacts: Paradise Island RV Resort and other urban campgrounds may experience noise from nearby transportation. One camper at Topeekeegee Yugnee Park mentioned, "The campground does sit next to a train track i believe its a commuter line so there is an early train 4am which is startling."

Limited availability during winter: The region experiences high demand during winter months (November-March) when northern visitors ("snowbirds") arrive. A camper at Davie / Fort Lauderdale KOA observed, "Very friendly staff. This palce gets really crowded during winter season."

Park closure times: Some parks have restricted entry hours. At Topeekeegee Yugnee Park, "park closes at 8, you can still enter through the exit gate until midnight and then have to call security to get in/out."

Tips for camping with families

Water park access: Davie / Fort Lauderdale KOA provides family-friendly amenities nearby. A visitor mentioned, "It is across the street from a massive park that is perfect for all family members. If you go to the park, make sure you see the burrowing owls."

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Many parks in the area offer chances to observe local animals. One camper at Davie / Fort Lauderdale KOA shared, "It had tropical flowers and plants and was right across from the pound. My grandson loved looking at and feeding the ducks and turtles."

Heat safety measures: During summer months, schedule outdoor activities before 11am or after 4pm to avoid peak heat. Bring plenty of water and sun protection.

Historical exploration: The area contains interesting historical remnants. A visitor to Markham Park noted, "There are some pretty interesting pieces of history leftover behind the camping field."

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: At C.B. Smith Park, consider your preferences for noise levels. "The basketball court on the other side of the fence can be a little loud until about 11pm but I'm a night guy so it didn't bother me. Other than that it's quiet, clean and close to many restaurants and stores."

Low clearance awareness: Watch for tree branches when navigating to some parks. A visitor to Topeekeegee Yugnee Park advised, "roads getting in the RV park are good but watch out for branches with big units outside the park to the north."

Variable site spacing: Yacht Haven Park & Marina and other parks may have tight spacing between sites. "The process to make our reservation took 5 phone calls... turns out we should have been a little more concerned with the electric service, as they had given us a pull in site for a bus, and we were unable to hook up to sewer."

Water pressure challenges: Some parks experience inconsistent utilities. A camper at Yacht Haven Park mentioned, "Very tight parking and roads. The water pressure was terrible."
