West Palm Beach-Lion Country Safari KOA

    Pros & cons

The campground is pretty tight & the sites aren’t very attractive but being next to the safari is awesome! You can hear the lions loud & clear!! The staff was nice. Close to groceries and gas stations.

    Topeekeegee Yugnee Park Campground

    Great Park

Clean park friendly staff. Great amenities. There are not many downsides two that I want to discuss. The campground does sit next to a train track i believe its a commuter line so there is an early train 4am which is startling. Other downside is park closes at 8, you can still enter through the exit gate until midnight and then have to call security to get in/out.

    Markham Park Campground

A Great Stay at Markham Park!

I stayed at Markham Park on July 28 and had a wonderful experience. The campground is well-maintained, peaceful, and offers plenty of space between sites, giving a nice sense of privacy. The park itself is beautiful, with lots of shaded areas, clean facilities, and easy access to nature trails, bike paths, and water activities.

What I loved most was how much there is to do right on site—whether you enjoy kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, or just relaxing by your campsite, this park has it all. The staff was friendly and helpful, and check-in was quick and easy.

Overall, Markham Park is a perfect spot for a quick getaway or a longer camping trip. I’ll definitely be coming back!

    Markham Park Campground

    Great for RVs

We are tent campers and feel a bit out of place around all the RVS. sewage and electrical connection available at sites, as well as water. The bathrooms are decent enough and locked with a door code. A bit crowded but close enough to civilization that it makes a great alternative to a hotel, although the price isn’t much difference $50/night). Lots to do in the park itself as well.

    L-31 Boat Ramp

    Not suitable

There is a detention center across the highway, the lights from the canal crossing and water pump building are extremely bright, there is a huge lit up casino about 1/4 mile away. There are two places to park, but one of them is right next to the pump building and down a steep hill. I passed on this one and camped instead at the one 19 min or so up the road.

Guide to Pompano Beach

Campgrounds near Pompano Beach provide access to coastal habitats, freshwater marshes, and hardwood hammocks. South Florida's subtropical climate allows year-round camping with summer temperatures averaging 85-95°F and winter averages of 60-75°F. Urban campgrounds offer a mix of concrete pads and natural settings within a region known for extensive water management systems.

What to do

Disc golf courses: Easterlin Park Campground offers an extensive disc golf course within a natural Florida forest setting. "This park is a true escape from the hustle and bustle of South Florida life. Calm and serene park with plenty of activities to enjoy with friends and family," notes Kristen A. The course provides a challenging experience through native vegetation.

Waterfront recreation: At Topeekeegee Yugnee Park Campground, campers can enjoy a large lake with walking paths. Mark B. describes it as having "a paved walking path around the park. On the west side of the park there's a lot of big mature trees that give a lot shade and are just nice looking." The park includes volleyball courts and water activities.

Shooting range access: Markham Park Campground features a shooting range that attracts firearm enthusiasts. "Lots of room to roam here. Great mountain bike trails, lakes, woods, disc golf, flora and fauna. Plus amenities you don't often find like a large outdoor shooting range (don't worry, it is quiet at night) and an RC airplane strip," reports JEFFREY W.

What campers like

Urban forest settings: Despite city locations, many campsites near Pompano Beach offer forested environments. At Easterlin Park, Ed M. appreciates that it's "Close to 95 and actually quiet. It's like a little forest in the city." This creates a surprising contrast to the surrounding urban environment.

Security features: Paradise Island RV Resort provides enhanced security measures that appeal to campers. Milagros B. notes, "Campground in the city, great guest services, friendly staff. Near grocery store, and everything! Full hookup sites, spots are big and concrete roads, amenities like restrooms and showers are cleans."

Pool amenities: Many Pompano Beach area campgrounds maintain swimming pools for guest use. Christoph at Paradise Island RV Resort mentions, "Good experience, this was the first campground we ever visited with our RV but it was smooth. Price was okay (I guess), front desk lady was very friendly, slot was spacey and the pool seemed nice although we didn't use it."

What you should know

Train noise considerations: Several campgrounds near Pompano Beach experience railroad noise. At Davie / Fort Lauderdale KOA, campers should prepare for occasional train disturbances. As Martin R. from Easterlin Park cautions, "the east end of Easterlin is on the Tri-Rail tracks and you do get significant noise so make sure you are a heavy sleeper."

Park closure timing: Most parks have specific gate closure times. At Topeekeegee Yugnee Park, Darren F. advises, "park closes at 8, you can still enter through the exit gate until midnight and then have to call security to get in/out." Always verify access procedures when checking in.

Site access challenges: Some campgrounds have tight navigation. At Easterlin Park, Napunani warns, "A16 has two large trees on each side of the 12 foot wide campsite entrance. Bring you A GAME as this campground road is very tight with lots of turns."

Tips for camping with families

Water park options: Quiet Waters Park offers water recreation facilities that appeal to families. Ashley J. shares, "My husband and I rented a campground flat in December. It was on the water, had a grill, electricity, fire pit, tent, running water and was pet friendly. We brought our kayaks and played around. Had a lot of space to walk our dogs."

Playground facilities: Multiple campgrounds feature child-friendly play areas. Cort B. notes that Easterlin Park has "showers, charcoal grills and a small kids playground" that can keep children entertained during your stay.

Tent camping alternatives: For families without RVs, cabin and tent platform options exist. Alex P. describes Quiet Waters Park: "Good location in the middle of urban area, cabins to rent. We've used for daycamp without overnight, but you can do that if you want."

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: At Yacht Haven Park & Marina, RVers recommend waterfront sites. Donna S. advises, "If you camp on the canal, chances are you will be right next to some amazing yachts! 7 minutes to Ft Lauderdale Beach and 7 minutes the other way to Seminole Hard Rock Casino Hollywood!"

Hookup accessibility: Check hookup locations before selecting sites. Ron M. from Yacht Haven Park notes a challenge: "They had given us a pull in site for a bus, and we were unable to hook up to sewer, and had to run our electric cable and water hose under the camper."

Security considerations: Many RV parks in the area employ security personnel. At Topeekeegee Yugnee Park, Michael F. appreciates that "The park is very well kept bathrooms were clean park very clean LT really secure. There was a onsite police staying in the very first spot."
