    Live Oak Landing

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, but still conveineant

This campground is off the beaten path near Destin (about a 30 minute drive), but is still very convenient.  It's got all the amenities and then some. Cabin rental, ice, pool, fishing, boat dock, clean bathrooms, playground, etc.  There is a nice gas station/small store just up the road too.  It's on a dead end road, so there is little traffic.  Even saw a couple of small gators by the boat dock! Very nice place, would stay there again!

    Grayton Beach State Park Campground

Best destination on the emerald coast!

Great site and beautiful lake view on site 16. Access to the beach was a bonus (most public beach access are closed due to covid19). They have convenient kayak and paddle board rentals at the beach access for the lake. They also have a great nature trail that offers wonderful views of the sand dunes. Very close to seaside and some great restaurants if you don’t feel like cooking. Site had a picnic table and metal fire ring with flip over grill surface for cooking. They sold ice and firewood at the entrance (locked after office closes for the night). Book early and check site availability often this place stays pretty busy. Bathrooms were clean and serviceable.

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Campground

    One of the best.

Great campground with full hookups! Longer hike to the beach than Henderson State Park but everyone seemed to have adapted with beach cart trailers behind their bikes. Beach tram runs when not on COVID shut down. Some sites are close together but the south loop sites had more privacy. Great biking in the park and along 30A. Also has many nice cabin rentals. Beach is absolutely beautiful!

    Grayton Beach State Park Campground

SO happy we chose a cabin!

So, we are usually tent campers but on this night we decided to try a cabin rental and we were SO happy with the decision. The tent sites had little shade and I think it would have been very hot in the summer sun! The campsites looked to be pretty private which was nice to note. The beach was wonderful- a very enjoyable place to spend time :)

    St. Andrews State Park Campground

    Beautiful well kept state park

Amazing state park on the water. The campground is modern with nice clean bathrooms, laundry machines, vending machines, park store with cart rentals and other items. The spaces are close together but great. Nice level gravel pads, full hookups including sewer, and most have fire pits and picnic table.

    Southern Hospitality at its Best!

Staff: once again the entire staff is a living definition of southern hospitality. The moment you step on the property you are greeted with staff that actually want to be there, everyone from office, store, clubhouse and maintenance. They do an amazing job at setting a welcoming and accommodating atmosphere for all patrons. 5 STARS! Accommodations: Grounds: well maintained and clean; Pool Area: Clean and pool is HEATED. Cabins: clean and have a pinterest beach vibe! Pet Area: clean, double gated, lighted with bench poo bags supplied! Pet friendly. Pier and beach area very clean with swings and super comfortable lounge chairs to soak up all the sun and breeze. Pier is great for fishing and benches along the pier provide a great way to view sunrise and sunset. Club house: during our stay they hosted an amazing THANKSGIVING dinner and a paint night; also features a large screen tv and seating areas for those occasional rainy days. On the weekends they have breakfast on the grill, best breakfast I've had in a long time(shout out to the cook and staff:) Playground area is lighted with a box of sand toys and various other toys to keep the kidos busy. Atmosphere: There is NO OTHER campground in the area that beats the atmosphere at this campground. The staff and the care they take to make sure everyone's experience is the best is hands down the best in this area. I honestly can't think of one thing that would have made our stay more enjoyable. This is the second time I've stayed here.

    Henderson Beach State Park Campground

Quiet and secluded for the beach

My family and I stayed here for one night in July 2020 as our midway point from GA to Texas. We stayed in site 44 and it was private and near the bathrooms. All the sites had gravel, a picnic table, and and a fire pit as well as a clothesline. There’s a path to the beach from the bathhouse. The bathhouse was very clean and there were men and women restrooms as well as private bathroom/showers.

We fit 2 tents at our site. It was so humid and muggy I cowboy camped on the gravel with my picnic blanket and sleeping pad. Everyone else slept in the tents without the rain fly’s for some ventilation. It was a nice, clean, and quiet park and we felt very secluded in our site. There was WiFi and cell service (2 bars for Verizon).

Each site has electric and water. There’s a dump station near the entrance/exit of the park. Overall, lovely experience and I would definitely stay here again.

Guide to Destin

Cabin rental options near Destin, Florida range from beachfront accommodations to lakeside retreats set amid Florida's coastal forest ecosystems. The region's climate features hot, humid summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and mild winters that rarely drop below 40°F. Unlike mountainous cabin destinations, Destin's cabin accommodations sit at near sea level, offering easy access to white sand beaches and coastal waterways.

What to do

Beach fishing opportunities: Fort Pickens Campground provides excellent shoreline fishing access. One visitor noted, "We were at one of the few 'tent' campsites in the park. Our site was back off the road in the brush - very private even with a trail just on the other side of the bushes. Either ride your bike or take the tram the mile to the boardwalk and beach."

Explore historic sites: Military history enthusiasts can visit the preserved fort at Fort Pickens Campground. A camper shared, "We were less than a 10 minute walk from the beach and walked about 30 minutes to the old fort. The beach and water were just beautiful."

Water activities beyond swimming: Twin Lakes Camp Resort provides fishing docks and boat rentals for guests staying in their cabins or RV sites. According to a visitor, "Surrounded by 2 lakes this is a nice clean camp ground. Concert pads with full hook ups... They have fishing docks and a nice little store when you check in and has a bathhouse with laundry facilities."

What campers like

Private beach access: Camp On The Gulf offers beachfront sites that eliminate the need for beach shuttles. A camper described their experience: "We had great but tight camping just 10 steps from the beautiful sandy beach. Lots of great and clean amenities. Very nice people running the campground and very nice people around us."

Individual bathroom facilities: Henderson Beach State Park provides exceptional bathroom amenities. One reviewer wrote, "There are two bath houses with laundry facilities, they were very clean and well maintained throughout our stay. The park hosts and maintenance personnel were visible and approachable with information and assistance if needed."

Winter and off-season stays: Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Campground remains open year-round with heated facilities. A winter visitor shared, "Checked in Friday 01/17 and extended my stay from 2 nights to 7 nights. I'm enjoying the solitude. I'm at a tent site, no WIFI. T Mobile is 4 bars."

What you should know

Reservation timing requirements: Henderson Beach State Park requires significant advance planning. A camper advised, "Reservations here are extremely hard to get, especially on short notice. I highly recommend staying here if an opportunity presents itself."

Military-only facilities: Some cabin rental options are restricted to military personnel. Mid Bay Shores Maxwell offers exceptional value but with limitations. A visitor explained, "Military affiliated recreational area. Rates based on rank of military sponsor. Guests do not have to be military affiliated."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activity scheduling: Camp On The Gulf organizes daily children's events during peak seasons. A family mentioned, "The week we were there they had a different activity for the kids each day. They had painting sand dollars, bubba the alligator show, face painting and even an Easter egg hunt."

Cabin versus tent considerations: For families with small children, Navarre Beach Camping Resort offers cabin options that minimize setup time. A visitor commented, "We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin, they were running a promotion. The maintenance people were great to work with on any issues and needs."

Private spaces for families: Fort Pickens offers sites with better privacy than most coastal campgrounds. A reviewer noted, "The tent sites are all separated and private, the facilities are clean, and best of all they have access to the most lovely beach! The beach backs onto the preserve so there is no development for miles."
